I agree with Busterific, the inverted castle is a thing of the past... People would go "oh, it's just like CSOTN, couldn't they be more original? Hur hur" Indeed we need to go for something way different, if not unique (that said, full uniqueness is truly difficult now, as by now about all good ideas have been implemented in other games... and then accusations of plagiarism are so easy now. The theme of stained glass and memories (sharpness, vibrant colors, chaos, distortions and others) is something I once again approve of. Allow me to add a layer on this all: Miriam could traverse this to find her conclusion of the journey, as in going against both of her past and her curse, elments that have been tormented her heavily. She could then not only live as a normal young woman, but also finally get rid of these unwanted powers (free them?). Countless ones would do ANYTHING to obtain these abilities. I do believe that Miriam has to deal with them very unwillingly. It is crystal clear when she obtains a new one. She gets literally impaled... To trigger that final/special dungeon, I suggest either a spell (Gebel trying to convince her one last time to not get against the statu quo?) or an ancient artifact. This could be the root of it all. The final battle or then the hidden epilogue of her journey. Either is fine to me. Edit: Actually, it does sound almost like the conclusion of a certain game (no spoilers)... We should try to make it different, somehow. It is not easy for an ending (and I'd hate tear-jerker bittersweet ones too) Oh and chocolatestain this is a really good 'shop. I approve of it, but only if it's without the messed up CSOTN 2nd castle-style rotation. I think I'd sprinkle it all with lots of glass shards and crystals in the background (decoring elements, not traps)

The VA-11 HALL-A tracks. From the game of the same name... which is really special (you serve drinks to clients while they chat about their own lives). Extremely enjoyable too even if I barely began playing it. Please go consult Grand Sage Google if you need more info! I also listen to the Sunless Sea OST sometimes. And this... A track that I sought for so long and finally found back. From a stage in a shooter game named Raycrisis: That and I have my little collection of popular yet rather old anime and game songs. Other playlists would be selected tracks from the Talesweaver and Tartaros MMOs that I haven't listened to in months now. Oh and I got my own little insane song mashes when I feel more random/bored. Want a sample? Sure thing! -Warning- It is very... weird. Super fitting, yet very crazy. -Warning- Another? Okay, another. I got to go now, though.

Ah, it's good to see completionists here. Thanks for taking the time responding! Astaroth Nothing is worse than a corrupted save file. FF VI did that to me on a few occasions (used copy). It was heart-breaking. I'm a sucker for good remakes too, even if I got a list of legendary entries that have never been ported on other platforms. Seiken Densetsu 3, I am looking at you (gladly I got the original cartridge and console). 100% bestiary... wow. One of each item, that means stealing from all mobs and bosses until you get it, probably all sidequests. *freezes in place out of amazement* @goobsausage Wow. I couldn't bring myself to do that either unless the game would be filling a void in myself in a perfect way. That and there are so many old and new gems out there, waiting to be experienced upon. I tend to leave the optional dungeons aside, if I have the potential to defeat the final boss with enough tools. ------------------------- Another thought is that I could never understand those who buy games "just for that" and leave it aside not long after. But again, that's their money.

Hello all again, Today I shall discuss about a topic people tend to keep for themselves but that always fascinated me. Do not worry, it is nothing to be scared about. I would also love to see responses of many kinds from the biggest number of people here. What is it about? Let's start!
...My humble long own history of gaming produced quite a number of little quirks/irrepressible deviant behavior... Was it that OCD behavior that was revealed via videogames? Was it channeled? Did it meet its perfect catalyst? It is a set of questions I still cannot answer to.
And so, I tend to:
- Explore maps at 100% unless it consumes too many resources like time or effort, admire the scenery, music, ambience, well-made character models, sparkles, explosions and other effects... In sum, developer effort. Not enough of this in gaming communities nowadays;
- Save but also restock on consumables*. A lot. Too much. Never too cautious on what the future may bring. Psycho Mantis would love my carefulness.
- Consider branching parts/crucial game decisions in a very serious way. Overly seriously sometimes.
- Try to get a viable, if not optimal build for my characters. It's tough sometimes. FAQs are then my saviors.
- Open every treasure chest (unless way forewarned by NPCs to not do it or it being unlawful), loot useful abandoned coins or items, it adds up;
- Grind levels or currency, but in a rather reasonable way. I don't want to fail on a monster/boss just because I was short a character level/ability/weapon level/others;
- Learn about the lore the most possible including useless NPC dialogue but at a fast message speed (yet avoiding having my brain fried because of boringly long tutorials. I go tl;dr then);
- Watch cutscenes in their entirety, once;
- Try to see if something is realistic, if the setting is proper;
- Get revenge on old monsters and bosses, those that annoyed me earlier, when powering up enough. "You remember me, huh? HUH?!" *Revenge gotten*
- Recover lost exp when dying (MMOs)
I also (generally) don't:
- Poke animals to the point they die or get angered to extremely hostile levels.
- Stab innocents to death. I'm a lawful good type (Yet I don't play D&D). Pickpocketing? Depends.
- Break stuff when it's against morality. In the other case, "Damn you stalkers! Leave me be!"
- Glitch stuff on purpose, I don't want my saves to be erased.
- Sabotage teamwork;
- Flirt with NPCs (if the game allows it), gamble or get trigger-happy, unless the game genres require such behaviors.
- Go for bad endings, unless they're truly worth it.
- Rush into zones/monsters/bosses that are impossible to beat at X moment, unless I got a very close save guaranteed. But even that is not too compelling.
- Level equipment/abilities to the maximum, unless they're the final ones;
- Ragequit, curse or belittle. I tend to postpone indefinitely, though. Insane difficulty levels are not my cup of tea;

*I tend to focus on armor parts then weapons and then consumables when having to shop in RPGs though. Greedy merchants could ruin this pattern, though.

Pure Miriam So much work, so much poetry, so much fanfiction, so much absolutely unofficial/probably fallacious character data... It is a completely indissociable mix of sheer awe in its purest form and shock of the greatest importance that invaded me when I briefly read that set of paragraphs. I am glad I am not haunted by utterly graphic thoughts when reading such comments or I guess I'd end sleepless. I pity those who have this condition. Is that all to say on this? I guess it is! *Scrams*

Enkeria *Ahem* Like Kirby's Yoyo ability? *Promptly teleports out* Well.. Hmm. Yeah. That seems cool. Make the actual whip a bit thin or transparant with a spikeball or something at the end might have given the actual animation a yo-yo feel to it. Battle Yo-Yo. It could be named as Lestaroyoyoyo! I'm hoping for a pillow joke weapon (sword/mace attack animation) that gets stronger as it crystallizes more and more. I don't care if I'm repeating myself. I want weaponized pillows in video games. Never read that one, good thing you repeated yourself. Sounds fun. Could imagine a few Miriams having that kind of fight for sure! I am hoping one of the backers makes a shield weapon. It deals no damage, but can block attacks. Do we even have physical shields in this game? And.. Do we even have psychodelic shields in this game? Like, special moves? Huh.. I forgot about Shield Rod etc. for a moment there. Answer 1: That then reminds me of the Discus Lord of CSOTN... but again, he wasn't rad at all, even annoying. I was sad that the Chakram he yielded produced NOTHING of the sort. A little mix of both his weapon and Kirby's ability would ensure something mind-blowing. Answer 2: Feathers everywhere! Unless it's filling of some other nature. Maybe one loaded with lead? Picture this: "Don't come closer, I'm heavily armed! ...Fine! Have at you!! *KERPLUNK* -big numbers denoting massive damage float above the monster's body-" *shivers on the -vania fanfiction* I'll stop there. Fanfics aren't my thing. Roleplaying neither. Answer 3: Ah, the Shield Rod. I was playing games with long-time acquaintances at their house... it was CSOTN at that moment. Picture me discovering that feature, being amazed and baffled on how broken it is, laughing my heart out (which is extremely rare) when seeing all of these +8s and hearts flowing up at the speed of sound and surprising everyone by this sudden reaction. Good ol' times.

I had a frustrating experience at work, but when I was done for the day I got all packed up and ready for a fun time at PAX South! Even went out and bought some last-minute snacks to share with my hotel roommates. We all have our crappy moments, getting away of them to find pure fun is also part of the deal. Have loads of fun there!

Technically not a console, but PC... via Steam. I completed my last step in that regard, which consists in making a XBox 360 controller work on it.
If only the game was planned for XBox 360, it would have been my system of choice. That said, PC now is fine, all of the games I got so far work flawlessly. I just hope I won't be left in the mud when my copy of Bloodstained is available (PC specs, you know?).

crocodile I try to make it the most readable possible with bullet points and spaces between lines, but again, it may get a tad complex (messy at times, even) to read when I am inspired. Right, a metroidvania wasn't looked well upon, but it's not all, it also was about western markets being even more reluctant towards the genre, even if CSOTN and the subsequent games were well-received. It goes the other way too, with Japanese markets almost being shuttered... I even heard about game regions calling the others full of junk games, uninspired or doomed to fail over and over. That is not healthy. That is not the spirit I grew in. I'd say that game companies can act like conceited jerks sometimes. But I'm glad that all is in the past regarding the dream we are currently working on. I also never felt like feeding the industry too much, even if I tend to build my little dream game collection on the systems I own (and I target the used bin for that). ...as for the reply to purifyweirdsoul, there are three words I forgot to put in my own post, that I shall correct now: "clash of cultures" This is also why the indie market is popular nowadays. That's all for now! Edit: I browsed the XBox 360 bins when I went to the game shop... AH 3 wasn't there anymore. I guess that someone did buy it after all.

Purchased a second wireless XBox 360 controller to get that little device to be able to play Steam games with ease... and wow! Dust: An Elysian Tale, Shantae the Pirate's Curse and Tales of Zestiria play so smoothly. I am now ready for the day Bloodstained is available! Also bought the superb Suikoden I+II as well as the two Tales fighting games for my PSP.
I better stop buying stuff for a little while. ^^

I didn't even check the games' rosters prior to my reply to you. I guess I should have. Sorry. The sad part is that people tend to FOCUS on what they find "inacceptable" or at least "uncomfortable" then generalize on it all, show it to others so the scorn gets popular. As old as humanity. You know the expression: "Sex sells". Countless games focus on that. Some even make it a marketing tool, while the rest of the product is sheer junk. I don't need to give you examples for that. The AH series are not in that trend. The funniest is in MMOs. Me being a veteran player (not to brag) of one of them, I saw from time to time people scamming others under the pretense they're female in reality (be them covert males or not). Swindling in a game. Seriously ridiculous. Pathetic. crocodile and Lestaroth Really, the game is all girls, but only a handful of them could be called lolis. Just looking at the character list, about 6 out of 23. Of those, I can only say that only maybe two could be perceived as being sexualized in some way, and that's likely why the Twitter account specifically asked about Kira and Konoha. Specifically, Kira just wears a gym swimsuit and is in a blob, while Konoha wear something similar and fixes her tail. The game doesn't show characters' underwear at any point, but since those are swimwear, technically you can always see them. There really isn't much of a "sexy" thing going on the majority of the time, but the tone can be perceived as pretty bad.
I myself am not a player that feels the need to pick a character that he/she can "self insert" into, or be representative of something about myself, etc. It also seems that a lot of guys won't play a female character (or even think they should be in the game) if they're not sexually attracted to them, i.e. if they can't "see themselves" as the character (a male) and the character isn't attractive to them, why bother? That rules out a lot of the AH cast then, for a lot of people, since there's that "why would I play a girl I can't even enjoy looking at" thing. For me, if what they do/look like is cool and fun, that's about all I care about. I can, however, sometimes see character traits of mine in female characters and pick them based on that, too, and even in doing that not want to have sex with them.
It can be a very polarizing thing based on the individual.

I must say that Vanillaware did a great job despite all of the insanely bad publicity they may have gathered (Dragon's Crown, anyone?). They are extremely strong when it comes to the brawler/beat 'em up genre, but I don't think they'd be ready for a pure, old-school CV game/-vania, which by essence, requires a lot of platforming. They're more into the intense, brutal, combo-at-will action in a medieval setting.
They in sense fit the arcade spirit, not so much the original CV. The latest entries of the series would fit them more... but they're in 3D. In the end, would it work out? I would give them a chance and I am sure they'd produce something very decent, but I feel they would opt for an entry with a radical twist.
Many franchises radically changed their formulas over the decades anyway, so... who knows?

...Sincerely, people should stop judging so fast on a videogame's content, especially when it is doesn't mean to create controversy in the first place. I mean, it's it not like it is MK or Dead or Alive (and even, these two series are great, even if I'll pass on MK 9) That said, I kind of would joke on the fact that the store owners took a risk of being "looked at with disgust and mocked for even trying it". Hell, I'd even say they DID try the game for that purpose (or then it would be a genuine intent of giving it a chance, which I doubt a bit about).
This is also why some gems from Japan never got their port in the Western world (NTSC US, PAL, Aus.), it is about some commercial gamble most of the time. On the other hand companies did refuse to port their games in the name of "carefulness" or plain lack of trust, or even less logical reasons. Countless games have been sent to limbo or cancelled at an advanced stage for this. In fact, it is a reason why Master IGA found so much trouble in the first place, companies were not ready for him and his great plans, they already had their own schemes, but also had preconcepts of "this and that", some being totally arbitrary (this is also why he went for the kickstarter "jump into the great unknown" pick and met tremendous success...*).
I admit I would have never bet on the Arcana Hearts series to be available in Europe and the US. The loli culture is typical of Japan after all. Even if manga and anime broke through there (The country where I am from did get anime in the 80's -even if it was in a butchered form- and that is was part of my cherished childhood), loli is not something the lambda person is okay with. I did encounter AH 3 in the game shop where I ought to go today but I did not buy it, not because there lolis are part of the cast, but because I had other choices to make. (I do know that playability, the sounds, music, etc. are all good... these are what I look in a game first.) I could even tell you if I see it today. I won't purchase it, though. Haha.
Oh and for another series with an all-female cast, I can advise you Vanguard Princess. The basic form for PC is free, sadly its progress got about totally halted after the Fukushima earthquake. There is a Steam version of it that sadly adds little to it.
Do your best to show that games aren't that bad, even if they have different content sometimes (my signature reflects this). It's okay to have games with extremely violent content, but lolis that go for a scuffle are a huge no-no? How messed up is that? Sadly it will not be solved at all, even with time. Such is the way humans go.
*I must thank the other project I won't tell the name of, for inspiring him. We most probably wouldn't have Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night without it. The game itself, the passion and sheer determination to make it work and the legendary team that is behind the helm... This is why I participated in the project and I have no regrets. *Raised fist*
P.S.: I want MvC 2 back on XBox 360... Wahhhhhhhhh!

And so, I have the feeling that Gebel not only wanted Miriam to feel safe in that castle, but also for her to have proper company. He would have then secured the souls of the other orphans, even if they were deceased long ago. If he did... Maybe he would have found them from the alchemists after murdering them and tied them to the castle.
These souls would be protected from the demons (demons LOVE souls of the youthful and the innocent after all) or then they would a special rank of the demons themselves and would need to be purified.
They wouldn't be so much in number as I would picture them being set free by Miriam and staying in safe rooms (maybe Miriam's room) and/or joining her as familiars, at least those fit for combat. Some of them would be siblings, which was not uncommon at that time. They would have more lines than the common RPG NPC. Maybe some of them would have passions like games and art and would fill the proper purposes of art gallery, mini-games, theatric plays, giving Miriam hints, insights and ways to feel better upon her ordeal. Maybe even some comic relief.
I do feel that familiars could do a lot in game and they wouldn't need to float around you, some could sit on Miriam's elbow or be summoned: -Buff Miriam (temporary or permanently)
-Silently hint at elements that seem out of place, a speech bubble would be fine (without making it too easy or too frequent, I sure as hell don't want a Navi reborn*, do you guys do?)
-Act as tactical support (the Goofball as an airstrike/ammo delivery/HP or MP delivery unit is now an official idea of mine)
-Non-fighting familiars in your lodgings A magical pop-up book acting as the save point and giving you story recaps in toon form? Random stories? Lore? A smart-looking spirit giving you all sorts of statistics like monsters vanquished, accumulated money and so on? "Pets" and mini-games? An alchemy assistant? Two, three? Miriam's own little lab. One could even show Miriam how she developed for the better in harsher times of solitude and despair (the pep talk that will definitely make her capable to conquer her weaknesses, JRPG/manga/anime style)?
-Full permanent protection against elements that would be impossible to cross, like a toxic mist or optical illusions (allowing new paths, typical of -vanias). A passive ability. No need to equip the familiar so it is activated.
------------------------------------------- I would also say that familiars could be more talkative, more cheerful than Miriam, maybe act as protectors of long-suppressed emotions and only letting them out at healthy doses?
I may add more in the future if my inspiration gets more sparks. I also have thought of familiar temporary fusion (combinations of two) but I guess it could be too much.
