This is a pretty late take, but I've been absolutely devouring this game, so I'll start by saying the game is fantastic. I feel like the upcoming games I'm anticipating the most are retro-style (Mega Man 11 for instance) so Curse of the Moon absolutely sates my appetite for that. The level of difficulty rises very nicely and the game as a whole feels incredibly balanced.
I think the game is pretty easy outside of a few nasty platforming sections though. Mostly because of health drops. I understand it's kiiind of necessary since you've got four pals to cycle between, but they feel too common, combined with more often than not optimal subweapon setups. Also Extra Lives respawning is a bit much. I frequently had 9 by the game's end whereas Dracula's Curse wears me down to nothing each time I play it. The difficulty rises if you try to double down on weapon types though, as stage 6 ended up being really nasty because I was too stubborn to let Miriam use anything other than the axe and the lightning on Alfred. I feel like there's juuuust enough lack of coverage between Subweapons if you try to hold onto the stronger stuff; Gebel's attack and Zangetsu's ball and chain don't cover the air like Miriam's rapiers, and Alfred in general has trouble with the air. There's clearly a lot of thought put into enemy placement combined with level layout, but that's really IntiCreates' strongest aspect, isn't it?
More than anything, I wish there were some dipswitches akin to Adventure: Rebirth allowing you to do stuff like toggle health pickups, air control, and how whether partners would show up if you already got one. That's just my personal preference though, I'm getting into nitpick territory. Honestly, all of the hazards are laid out so having control on your jump arc is kind of superfluous. The boss designs are all fantastic and I even found a lot of the easier ones to be really difficult with solo Zangetsu. There's so much replay value here and I can replay each of the levels and find new facets of the level layout and TONS of hidden areas, so even the stuff I brought up hardly bothers me at all. It's a fantastic game, and rather than compare it to Castlevania, I really think the most relevant comparison is Shovel Knight, given how it modernizes a lot of existing caveats of old-school NES ideas and does them better.

What scares me is that the ones who made the english trailer thought that using that tacky voice was a good idea!! Don't you dare talk shit about Maxwell Powers, I will slap you On topic, this looks amaaazing. I like how swapping between characters is fast unlike Dracula's Curse, which means it's going to be the central mechanics. This looks like it'll be to Castlevania 3 what Adventure: Rebirth was to Adventure with all the quality of life tweaks, new ideas, and cool-looking boss designs. Given Inticreates' experience with Gunvolt, the bosses give me the same vibe with their huge areas of attacks, and the branching paths remind me of Rondo of Blood. It's games like this and Shovel Knight that still prove that 2D action games with old-school influences and design are not only relevant, but important in the current age. I'm beyond hyped.

I'm probably in the minority, but I really prefer Natsume's artwork. The brighter use of colors combined with unrealistically pale skintones give Bloodstained's art an otherworldly feel. The more muted facial expressions lend the characters a more somber feel fitting of a Gothic setting as well.

I'm really fond of Mad Forest from Dracula's Curse. Aquarius (also from CV3) is "the little song that could" to me since it was basically forgotten after CV3 until CotM. After that it appeared in Adventure: Rebirth and Harmony of Despair. Mad Forest by comparison only showed up in Judgement, though thankfully the composition in that game is excellent.
Also I happen to really like Boss Opening from Rondo of Blood? It's a goofy song, but it's unsettling and puts you on edge as you anticipate what kind of weird and creative enemy awaits you in the next room.

"Mysterious Man" voiced by Alucard
is this for real
I feel like we're all on candid camera or something
The real prize in this update is Yasumoto as Zangetsu though, the dude has an amazingly expressive voice despite how he usually gets typecast. Part of why Raven is such an enjoyable character in Guilty Gear is to hear Yasumoto switch between soft brooding and being giddy about being ignored.

I balked about this on Twitter a few months back and oh boy is there a bunch of egg on my face right now.
There's a few things implied in the dialogue that go against the Castlevania canon, but I'm willing to overlook it. I'm mostly impressed in with the whip-based combat. There's a lot of inventive stuff going on, like Trevor using it to swing his sword around, redirecting it mid-swing, the animations for all of these movements really sell it. The Alucard bit was pure fanservice, I completely dug it even though I'm not as big a SotN fan as everybody else seems to be.
Everybody's praising the dialogue, and i do think it was pretty punchy and fun, but it seemed like it was trying to be edgy just for the sake of shock value? Lots of extraneous fucks and shits being tossed around. I feel like when the dialogue was being more reserved (Alucard and Dracula in particular) is when it particularly shone. The absolute nadir of this was the goat fucking but, it didn't really contribute anything other than the shovel joke.
Otherwise, it was excellent and I'm really looking forward to more.
whars grant tho

RichterB At the very least, regardless of what direction Prime 4 really decides to take, the Metroid Prime games (considering the IP they're part of) are among the very few 1st-Person Shooters I personally ever had any interest in playing. Aside from Star Wars: Republic Commando, I don't remember any other shooting game that I really had fun playing. For Metroid fans that aren't into FPS games, wouldn't we all still recommend the Prime games? To be fair, that's because Prime is less a FPS than it is an adventure game disguised as an FPS. I'm super happy about all of this, I'll buy the hell out of Samus Returns. I've tried again and again to play Metroid 2 and I just can't get into it because of the cramped screen and poor environmental details. The melee attack reminds me of Other M, but since it's always in 2D i think it could work pretty well.

Inticreates has always had an impressive resume of 2D action, and I think the Burst mechanic could be really interesting if there are multiple levels of weapon enhancement going on.
I'm always quick to sing Gunvolt's praises, so my guess is that MN9 was just conflicting mechanics rather than a poor vision.

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't happen every time. It's not annoying and I think there's something cathartic about it given that shard are probably pretty uncommon.

I was going to say the backgrounds look a little plain, but the animations are so impressive who cares about backgrounds. (second watch, the cave's background and lighting looks really nice. Love the way the camera turns slightly as you round corners).
Plus I'm STILL kind of going crazy over how fun that boss looks. I adore the way her attacks all interact with each other, and I'm going to have a blast figuring out how all of her attacks work. Her umbrellas protecting you from the blood rain is seriously impressive, and any hesitance after Yooka-Laylee's mixed reception is successfully quelled.

Is it a bit too on the nose to want Houko Kuwashima (Shanoa) to provide Miriam's voice? And Jennifer Hale would be a great pick for English Miriam, makes sense since David Hayter seems like a good indication of the quality we're going to get.

www.castlevaniaboardgame.com/I bumped into purifyweirdsoul the other day at my local FGC event and we got talking about Castlevania tabletop stuff. I mentioned this topic's titular fangame and figured I'd make a post here about it. The creator's popped up on Kotaku and Reddit to talk about his work, and he's still making stuff for it as far as I know. I'd love to make my own someday (springing for high quality card and tokens and such) but don't really have the resources at the moment. Has anybody gotten their own take on this going? Reviews/impressions would be welcomed from anybody who has! Otherwise I'm down to just talk about how rad this thing is.

What a coincidence! purifyweirdsoul told me yesterday I should jump on the forums more at my regular FGC event so here I am!
I'm a Guilty Gear boy, but I plan on getting KoF 14 at some point (steady employment willing). Outside of that there's a couple of obscure old things on fightcade I dig and would love to play, those being Karnov's Revenge, Rage of the Dragons, and Garou.

The village is cool! If there were villagers there freaked out about the appearance of a castle that would be neat, but an abandoned village a la Rondo of blood is fine too!
The only thing I have to note about is that the wagon appears kind of weird as a platform. It doesn't really "pop" the same way that the awnings do.

I suggest a Castlevania/Bloodstained panel for next year.
It should be called "The Castlevania panel to make up for the distressing lack of it at last year's Castlevania themed Con." catchy, huh?

Is this our favorite or best? There's a big difference, haha.
My favorites would have to be Mother 3, Undertale, and Guilty Gear Xrd.
