I am desperately excited for the strategy book thing, but I have no idea how we can get our hands on it. Trust me when I say you are not missing anything special with the "Strategy Book". I really does resemble a manual and I suspect it may be the same manual that comes with the console versions. It has a section in the beginning for the controller layout (which again is identical to what you would find in a console game) and a table of contents along with a basic cast of characters description. It has a page describing the "game screen" and another describing the "pause screen" for those who have never played a video game. Don't lose any sleep over this "bonus" (quotes intended).
EDIT: After a bit of reflection I decided to scale back on the sarcasm. I think they intended to replicate the in-depth manuals that came with games from the PS2 and earlier eras. A more accurate description for it would be "Retro-style Manual" rather than billing it as a strategy booklet. It's still definitely the lesser of the two bonus pieces.
The artbook on the other hand is really quite something with detailed notes about each area of the game and art for most if not all characters, enemies and weapons. There are also developer notes regarding how the story came to be; apparently Gebel was originally supposed to be the main character, but the team felt he didn't stand out enough for the lead role. All in all this piece of memorabilia is definitely a worthwhile keepsake.

I'm curious as well and have enjoyed his music as far back as the original Shantae. Unfortunately there seems to be no way to view the credits from the start menu yet. That said, I have not completed the game so it's possible that the credits will unlock once the game has been beaten.
As an aside, I backed at a high enough tier to receive the physical soundtrack CD which hopefully mentions which artist composed each song. Once I have it in hand, I will gladly indicate which pieces Virt contributed.

Mine is to hide behind an obstacle they can't cross and can't see me, and I just wail on them until they die. That's pretty much exactly what I did: there's a crate in the boxcar to the left that this creature (Kunekune sounds far too cute for such a thing) could not cross. The flying edge sword was the perfect companion for dealing with this situation.

Wow - I just discovered by random happenstance the most brutal surprise I may have seen in a game outside of the Resident Evil series. For whatever reason, I let Miriam sit whenever I come across a chair and so it made sense to let her ride the train in peace. In real life, I love looking out the window whenever I board a train (it's my favorite mode of transportation).
Needless to say, this thing that looks and acts like it belongs in Silent Hill absolutely ripped me a new one. For the record, I just beat the Glutton Train and Miriam is grossly over-leveled at level 56 since I have been power-grinding to acquire 9 of every shard.
I died twice to this abomination before I knew what had happened before finally killing it the smart way (hint run Forrest, run). Kudos to the development team for such an unexpected and VERY dangerous encounter!

browren - I'm genuinely happy for you and the Linux backers. Although I personally wasn't affected, I felt it was a low-blow to those who were involved and it's great to hear that you can finally enjoy the game you pleged your hard-earned money towards.

It seems like every localisation other than English was done somewhat poorly. The Brazilian Portuguese is also just as terrible, with lots of typos, missing whitespaces and questionable decisions. They probably haven't done a single QA session at all, and it's obvious that whoever did the translation isn't used to work with games, because everything was translated in the most literal sense possible. I wasn't really that bothered by it as I always play games in English, but when I decided to check out how it went, well let's say I was surprised by how bad it ended up being lol. Even the English version is flat-out missing words from the dialogue. They may have bug/play tested, but I don't think they proof-read. It's not the end of the world but it's a bit jarring to see part of a sentence missing every now and then. I know someone who does Spanish translation work for Ubisoft as a contractor. If anyone at 505 needs help, I could try to reach her.

I'm actually hoping Shantae would appear as an enemy along the same lines as Shovel Knight. I think she'd make a great efreet and would dance to perform her attacks; these would take some time to complete encouraging the player to quickly finish her off, else she would complete her dance and the effect would be devastating. With Wayforward on the team, it just seems like a waste not to use her in some capacity. You mean like that ice sorcerer in SotN in Galamoth area- kill her now or she'll summon a perpetual crazy AOE ice spell. I would be okay with this. I'd want her shard to be either a fire djinn familiar or a transforming into a fire djinn yourself. The ice sorceress is exactly what I had in mind for Shantae. As for her shard she could either be a (half) genie familiar or perhaps act as a gag outfit for Miriam - it would be funny to use her monkey form to climb walls or her elephant form to ram or crush things. She would be easy to include in an Iga-Vania game since the first three Shantae games took their inspiration from Metroid and Castlevania.
Like I said: Wayforward is part of the development team. It would be downright criminal to not include in some role or another.

ANother person is playing it on twitch, in the same area, but I can't watch on twitch because there are no options to play the video in reduced quality. Every video there is in 60fps, and no matter what, it stutters every few seconds, and locks up. It does that at youtube as well, but unlike twitch, I can set it to 480p without the 60fps, and the videos there will play just fine. I can also watch videos there in 1080p, but if it says 60fps, I can't watch it, even 720p 60 fps. I watched a bit of one Youtuber, but it was difficult because he was one of those players who insists on jumping and attacking constantly even in screens where no enemies occur such as the drawbridge area. I really can't wait to get my copy and experience it for myself .

Crazy thought: The 3rd playable character might be Shantae. I'm actually hoping Shantae would appear as an enemy along the same lines as Shovel Knight. Hmmm... well I did watch a little bit of the let's play (just the demo section we've all played before) and I have to say that the team did an excellent job improving the lighting. A bit of the improvements were revealed in the trailer but to see it in action really hits home. Kudos to Artplay, Dico and Wayforward for really stepping up their game (literally)!

Remember though: it takes two to tango. It's a dick move by Epic certainly, but Deep Silver and possibly Neilo and Ys Net are just as complicit if not more so since they were the ones funded by Kickstarter money.

purifyweirdshard - I believed you, I was just under the impression that vendors were legally bound to date agreements as a condition of sale. Angel was very prompt to clarify the situation. I really don't envy him or Question; it's nonsense like this that is outside their control, but as the primary contacts between company and fans, they're responsible for putting out any potential fires irrespective of who started them.

Since it's now in a store, who knows where footage and spoilers might appear. I'm counting on the moderators to keep this place spoiler-free (as much as possible) for the next 7 days! is watching you. In a perfect world the mods shouldn't have to do *any* moderation regarding spoilers. If a leak does occur from a legitimate copy and not some pirated hack-job, then their distribution system will have been a complete failure. I swear if footage shows up on Youtube before any of us get our copies, I'll be PM'ing Angel and Question with some choice words...
*EDIT* - Just chatted with Angel on the Kickstarter page. According to him this is one independent retailer who has broken the street date. When asked if they have contractual agreements with the vendors, he stated that the big stores such as Walmart do have agreements but they don't with small, independent stores. Regardless, this is a truly shitty move on the part of this seller and unfortunately, 505 will likely have another PR mess to deal with if someone leaks early gameplay footage.

Not sure if I like that idea. I really want to hunt down and collect every single shard in the game, so that sounds like a punishment for doing well and having fun. I plan on collecting all shards too. What I meant was that if you have *vast* amounts of shards (ie. 9 in many cases) that are leveled up to their maximum potential then the game could "punish" you in a sense, since you're potentially over-relying on your demon powers.
Regardless of how it's implemented, they have hinted enough in the demo that having too many shards is a bad idea and it would seem silly if there were no consequences.
