im talking about the legs, the part below the knees. thighs are fine. anyways, no big deal lol I like the update, but im surprised the back crystal is "3D/protruding" instead of being flat like other crystal parts

I'd like to point out quickly to those expecting a movement animation. It would have been neat, sure, but the fact is rigging a 3d model to move properly takes a whole lot of time. If you want just some very simple movements you could do that fairly quickly, but only if you aren't planning on doing more or have no problem completely redoing it for the actual intended result. Then the issue arises, do you show them something they won't appreciate? I'm sure the devs are not planning on wasting time, neither theirs nor ours. The first real development update near the end of the Kickstarter campaign had a moving Miriam. Granted, that model was probably primitive and slapped together but there was actual movement. If you look at the screenshots provided for the shader vote, some of the shots looked like Miriam was in mid motion. While we certainly aren't entitled to seeing something like proto-gameplay and those shots may have been staged rather than mid-motion, I feel there is enough to suggest they have Miriam up and moving about at this point in time even if all her animations aren't finished. I think the only reason this comes up as a topic is because this update was a bit anemic. It's been six weeks since the last update and that one was "packed"/"influential". This felt more of a "by the way" type of update. I appreciated it of course but I'd be lying if I said I was "satisfied". I'm sure all that work they did to make that movement was tossed out the window. It was rigged to move on a 2D plane without consideration for any 3D cutscenes or camera angles, and it was also likely the only character to have any development time at all. Miriam was also not likely to be in a 3D plane at all, and the background was likely pre-rendered. I know it would be great to see it, but if you're asking them to do that, you're asking for them to waste a lot of time just to show it off, and not to actually use it within the game. Just be patient and we'll get movement eventually, maybe even some next month, who knows. It might be hard going from shader hype to a more melancholy update, but that's how it is.

the update quite delivers it's purpose which is showing us Miriam's full model! I'm looking forward for the next upates
P.S this update seems like.. one of the smallest ? so maybe they're planning to release updates faster ?

The main things I took away were monthly updates and focus on one subject at time. That way, announcements don't drown each other out, feedback ends up being mostly about the most recent update and easier to go through, and it allows more time for everyone involved to focus on other work. The latest Kickstarter update also mentioned that content for next three updates have been planned and Ben Judd knows what's coming down the pipeline.

the legs are fine, she has actual calves as opposed to the chicken legs most 3d models end up with, what makes it look odd is she has her leg and knee turned inward a tiny bit cause shes posed like theres actual weight to her and shes having to balance herself. a good portion of animations if you look closely it looks more like theyre hanging by their waist with the legs just kind of hanging there in a pose (second life does this, the waist is the anchor point to make it easy to to adjust for height and also to make creating animations that are easily applicable to the wide array of things in it)

Okay I'm much happier now. Lot of things I've wanted since SOTN seem to be coming over POTENTIALLY or at least being considered. ( hopefully done in new refreshing ways) Either way, sounds like the game will be beastly and taking the qualities from all the best.

They've managed to use 3d but marry it with the look of a 2d game almost. Yes, they do really need to nail her personality and character writing. I hope it truly reflects the vibes of the time, SOTN/Lament/Order all did that very well I think.

I seem to recall being told the next update was going to explain why they added the shoulder cloth to her used-to-be-bare shoulder. But I don't recall seeing that.. anyone mind enlightening me?

It was revealed in the podcast with mana, they added them because it gave miriam a flowy bit of clothing that helps make her stand out more against the background and give a capelike object without covering her back crystal

A lot of devs do, quite a few of the issues with modeling and animation stem from working around the engine, using preexisting assets tailored to said engine for ease of implementation, and shortcuts needed for certain types of games, especially ones where character customization is a thing (this is why character height in many games are limited to a single slider with a small range, it keeps the headaches of having a char half sunken into a horse cause they have a really long torso or hovering above a chair because they have long legs to a minimum, im sure once unreal 4 really starts getting used its own issues will start to crop up and devs will have to work around them)

They explained it before. It was primarily to make her pop out of the background environments more, as it was harder to see her without it.
