CastleDanMaybe it has to do with different composers? Some tracks are obviously not composed by Yamane, and while they're still very good on its own right, they aren't exactly what you were expecting. Silent Howling and Gears of Fortune for example could very well pass as a track from the Ys franchise, and vice-versa. Just compare:
vs
Or maybe the game just wasn't invoking the right feelings in the composers? I'm not sure how this works, but well it's a possibility. At the end of the day, we could spend an eternity comparing what we got with the tracks from SotN or Lament of Innocence, but honestly that's unfair. LoI is in my opinion Michiru Yamane magnum opus, and that's a standard too hard to surpass.

I think the real Sequel was to return the books to OD cause Miriam is a good girl.

This should be marked as a spoiler. I didn't know O.D is a boss, and now that surprise is gone...
To add to the topic, I hope there will be some improvements to the mode. I have yet to try it myself.

purifyweirdshard I invoke YOU to change the thread title, lol. On topic, yeah having finished the two courses already the boss rush made is indeed lame and way too incomplete. I hope there is going to be a patch for it.

He must have already changed it? I don't see anything going on, besides this being spoilers outside of the spoiler thread lol
I actually figured these bosses likely weren't in the Boss Rush because you unlock it after the bad ending.
edit: ehhh yeah I see somebody was spoiled, I'm moving it to the spoilers thread

Completed the base game on the 1.01 build and started a NG+ run after patching to the latest build. Overall I'm satisfied with how the game turned out even if it could have been better in terms of art direction for both sound and visuals. I do have to give the team credit where it's due in that the 1.02 build significantly improved on the visuals especially for the Galleon Minerva which now looks quite respectable. Yes the sound design doesn't live up to SotN, LoI, or AoS but I found that the music was a good fit for the levels themselves. Would love to see IGA look for a fresh take on sound design for the next Bloodstained game; my top pick would be studio MONACA of Nier and Drakengard fame. The biggest let down sound wise were the brief segments that didn't have any music whatsoever and I felt that was a missed opportunity. Wasn't really a fan of the art direction and it took me quite some time to get used to it (more than I thought it would going into the game) but at this point I'm beginning to appreciate some of the artistic environmental details on my second play-through. The game's performance was nothing to write home about for the 1.01 version even on the PS4 Pro but the latest version appears to fare much better from what I've played so far. I wasn't able to 100% all aspects of the game on the 1.01 build but hopefully will be able to do so with my transferred save file; no open chests so far on NG+ Will check to see if the glitches I experienced in the first play through are still present in the latest build; the worst glitch I had (other than freezing and crashing) was Miriam loosing her head due to certain accessory combinations which persisted for quite some time even after reloading the game. No real surprises in terms of gameplay, just the tried and true Igavania fare. Had to look up a few segments like underwater movement and how to obtain the spike proof armor but other than that had no real issues. Bosses were pretty easy on normal but maybe they'll be more challenging on the harder difficulties. Looking forward to playing the upcoming content. I do have to ask how does one access Boss Rush mode? Is it available on PS4 yet and if so how can I access it?

You don't necessarily trigger him. You can finish the game without returning the books. Of course, Miriam needs to be an absolute b to do that. Besides this is the spoiler thread.

Doesn't matter, still spoiled and further spoiled something for another player. That in itself was not right and things of that nature have had spoiler tags or the whispering smiley used to insert said spoilers, for a reason. Arikado Had wanted to be surprised and now no longer can be, which actually can ruin an experience for someone, at times. Besides, if something is labeled as 'Secret Boss', it usually speaks for itself as to what it is.....a secret to be found, not told. Edit: Also, just because it's a spoiler thread, doesn't mean we haven't all been using spoiler tags in our discussions. Some people truly wish to avoid those as much as possible.

And regarding the lack of grotesque designs and generally ...tame visual designs and material. This is their base....Literally almost 98+ percent of the people who support IGA's games are over the age of 18. Maybe cater to them more? Not saying you should drop "F" bombs or something but go a bit more bloody, go a bit more grotesque, play up some more creepy designs. It just feels weird to have such a tame approach to a game about demons. I mean when you could be doing more creepy look designs like this I only have two major gripes with the game: 1. Pacing. If you're the type, like myself, who plays to completion first and grinds later, and you get stuck because you can't figure out that you need to have your picture taken and then go to the librarian vampire to get a photo ID to make the gates at the train station open ... or if you haven't figured out that ... the game doesn't want you to find the shard that lets Miriam sink underwater to explore the underwater level, but rather to use a generic shard to propel yourself through that level until you get said shard ... it can be a real chore getting through the castle the first time around. 2. Enemy design/ graphics. I didn't wanna whine about this before the game was released, since it's not something they could do anything about once mass production started with IntiCreates at the helm, but imho most of the monster assets suck, both their design and their 3D models. This can be said for pretty much all enemies, with the few exceptions thankfully being the main bosses: 1. Vepar 2. Valefor 3. Valac 4. Bloodless 5. Baal
You'll notice two of these were touched up by Mana. As far as the 3D modeling is concerned, my guess is a lot of these were outsourced models and the firm they hired delivered cheap, but not good. But, as CastleDan points out, they could have gone with creeper, more mature designs from the get-go. This also applies to the "sexy" elements in the game: the Lilith character design was... I mean, it's not that it's really bad per se, and I get that some people might be into demonic bunny girls with footwear that looks plucked from a Dr. Seuss cartoon, but compare the Lilith design to Miriam's design: it looks like they came from two different games. Same for the Revenant Belmont - it just looks like it was plucked from a game with an aesthetic closer to Smash Bros. than Symphony of the Night. The point is, we're big boys and girls - we can handle gorier, sexier, more gothic designs - and as gamers, we can handle better 3D models. Unfortunately, I understand recycling enemy models is probably the best way to make the sequel better as a whole, because they're the one asset you can reuse without much trouble, but that was the most disappointing part for me.

Honestly, most of these assets aren't reusable from my perspective, they're THAT bad. If IGA's plan was to create a "database" of assets so he can reuse them on later games, he probably failed at that. I wouldn't like to see any of these models in a sequel, if we are ever to get one. And you can call me a hater, but I do think this is again DICO's fault.

Oh, it does, @bloodymiri , and I can see our tastes align - so your thread plug is good. I mean, it's ultimately up to IGA, obviously, but they already got the partial nudity descriptor for Vepar's nipple-less breats. And like CastleDan points out, 98% of us are legally adults here. I'm sure publishers have an aversion to the Mature rating, that it negatively impacts sales and creates controversy; I mean, obviously, because games like Grand Theft Auto and Mortal Kombat have sold so poorly oh, wait, never mind. So I think IGA and 505 ( Angel-Corlux , Question ) should know that, should they choose to go there, they'll probably do better financially, not worse. I get the feeling the player base cares more about the quality and aesthetics of the enemy designs than their level of gore/nudity/sexuality. They should probably have Mana do enemy designs for the sequel. She's already an ArtPlay employee and she obviously knows what she's doing. She'll be invaluable to the franchise going forward if she stays on board.

I am having to try and do the opposite right now.
I am having to find a weapon combination that lets me cut the moon when fighting Gebel. I literally am hitting him hard enough that he is dying before I can.

I never said O.D. is an optional boss Until he somehow come up with that Idea (which requires further digging out of the post), and you can complete the map under 99% and O.D. will never ask you to return the books until game ends and the castle vanishes, and it is too late.
So either way canonically Miriam may very well be in possession of at least one overdue book from O.D. Any way sorry about the Spoilers.
Onto the next post. When Alfred demonstrate both slow time and teleportation, are they both Enochian Script, whose main purpose is dimensional manipulation to summon spirits? Also How did Zangetsu sealed its usage? I cannot see the text on his tailsman clearly, but his style seems a bit Buhhist. Edit: Nehan Jakujoh is specifically a Buddhist chant, and the tailsman writting is visibly Pali. However, neither have specific usage against teleportation. The flame pillars he used has four Chinese letters essentially meaning reality is falsehood and pretty colours is in the end merely an illusion.

I said earlier I was working on a map that showed all the normally missed stuff. Well, here is the first version of it. I probably missed one of two green chests early on, I was not being good about marking them at that time. If you notice anything I missed or think of a good change, let me know.

My apologies for bringing up an old subject from earlier in the thread but I wanted to comment on it. As a Catholic, I am not at all bothered with how Dominique turned out. I ended up seeing some footage of the game from a streamer before release and became suspicious of her after the streamer pointed out how weird it was when she popped up at one of the sorcery labs. That combined with someone else mentioning that her portrait could be seen hanging on the walls of the castle, the later reveal of her being one of the Big Bads was not a big surprise.
As for her being a sign of the typical japanese "THE CHURCH IS EVIL TROPE", personally I doubt it went that far this time. I saw no signs of her "turn to the dark side" being an issue of corruption in The Church itself, more just her abandoning her former faith but keeping up a facade of still having said faith to achieve her goals. Once she was "in the thick of it" as it were and was far enough away from The Church's watchful eye, then she decides to make her move. As a side note based on my reading of the material, I do not believe what she talked about her boss fight is all that true in regards to the lore. Various Light/Holy themed items and weapons still help out against the demons so it's not as if there's a complete abandonment of the divine here. Plus her entry in the Demon section of the archive straight up calls her a fool. If that's not a sign that she isn't thinking straight with how things work I do not know what would. EDIT: Since I am talking late game stuff here, I will mention the final boss as well and the use of Bael.
I will admit, initially I was also disappointed with how the boss was designed. Basically just three rotating heads that fired various things at you. This became especially apparent when I was reminded how this was a dead ringer for the first phase of Chaos from Aria of Sorrow. I admit that over time and repeated bouts with the boss I have warmed up to it more. The design they used for Bael is pretty accurate to the source material (That being The Ars Goetia) except minus the crown on the humanoid head and him lacking an actual body. Not to mention having one of the earlier bosses basically be Bael's "tongue" I also thought was a nice touch.
To kind of address something someone said earlier, while it is true that they kind of took out the biggest demon force in hell at the very first game you have to remember one thing. Bael is not the only "King of Hell" in the Ars Goetia. From the quick reference I have looked up there are at least 7 or 8 others. Sure, Bael is the first demon on the Ars Goetia list and is clearly portrayed as the most powerful, but he's not the only one. Bael was taken out by Miriam and while it is unclear if he is gone for good, with Bael having been taken out (at least for now) by a human, I HIGHLY doubt the other Kings of Hell would let an opportunity to fill that newly formed power vacuum go unexploited. I will repeat this as well, IF Bloodstained becomes a series, I think it would be a good idea to use this concept. Instead of having the same villain (In Castlevania's case Dracula) being the final boss of almost every single game, you could use the material in the Ars Goetia to have your pick of a new big bad, a new final boss to design and toy with. Bael is far from the only well known demon of these demonic kings. Asmodeus I have seen appear in media several times. Same with Belial. I apologize for the rambling if this turns out incoherent but my point is that, if they handle this correctly, there is so much more to explore here that I think would be great for a series. (At least in terms of story potential and boss designs)
