Sooo.... what we can play as Gebel or someone in the prologue or a flashback or something maybe and the 3rd playable character is someone completely different? Hmmmm assuming it "IS" actually possible to guess... Maybe a familiar, or maybe like Old Axe Armor run in Portrait of Ruin it's an actual normal enemy we face that is the 3rd character?
I'm still voting for Anne/Maria
EDIT: Wait... what if by "nowhere near guessing who the 3rd playable character is" what he actually meant was that the 3rd character "IS" on the list he/she is just not one of the favored choices?

My work hereIs done To complete the meme: "but you didn't do (say) anything..." lol BUT, time to dissect. Let's put this through the hints and context we have otherwise and computify it "You can play as one of the characters in this poll...but they're not the third playable character" - this means one of two things, or possibly both: Boss Revenge uses one or more of the characters in the poll or my Julius Mode theory is right. If "character 3" is actually a mode where multiple characters are available during that mode, like in Dawn of Sorrow and PoR etc, then it would add up to the rest of the hints. After all, almost no one would be able to guess both that it's actually 3 characters in one plus all of their identities. "...and you still are nowhere even near guessing who the 3rd playable character is" - so, just recently in the discord, Angel was excited about a deal he had been in the process of making being signed. It was something he had been working on since almost the beginning of his time with the game, i.e. 18 months. It required the approval/signing of an outside entity and would be DLC in-game. This applied to the 3rd playable character means a guest, if it does apply, and would of course mean that no one would expect who it was since it wouldn't be a Bloodstained character (or Shovel Knight). So who would that guest be? Who would the Bloodstained team be likely to work with? Or is it simply just another in-universe character we don't know about yet? And yet again, the Julius Mode possibility exists too and adds up to the criteria as well. Thoughts? ;p |

Well, I mean...Pure Miriam is in the poll, and since she's an alternate skin we'll definitely be able to play as her, but she's not exactly a 3rd playable character, so I think that's that for Angel's first statement.
As for the second...hmm. If it's not any of the choices given, man, maybe Gremory is a better prospect than I thought. Or if not her, perhaps another enemy we wouldn't expect. Dullahammer head mode?!?!?!

One of the main selling points of this game is to collect all the great things from previous Igavanias into a single game. There have been Igavanias with more than 1 extra playable character but none where you had an extra playable character and a multi-character mode.
If character 3 = 3 characters my best guess would be Johannes, Dominique and Mystery Man. It's certainly possible that the third character is a character that hasn't been revealed yet or a guest character but I wouldn't rule out the possibility for a more than one character mode.

Oh, I just mean it might be one of the 72 Demons that isn't already an enemy in Gebel's Castle that Miriam has to fight. It could still be an evil character, but not one of the demons that Miriam & other human characters are likely to encounter on their own travels. |

I saw on Reddit that Angel said they'll reveal the "not the third" playable character on launch day. That seems to make it unlikely to be someone you play in a flashback or so, since that would just be a spoiler for the game to announce it.
Guess they could be planning to release info on upcoming boss revenge on launch day, but maybe not the most logical of timings to do so.
And since it's not the third playable character, it implies that it either won't be unique enough to be a full fledged "playable character", or it is usable for only a short duration, or maybe just for a certain mode.
Since there is said to be local co-op in some capacity, might there be a character that plays just like Miriam, but looks different to avoid confusion during co-op? If this tracks and is also someone on the list here, I kind of feel Johannes is the best bet? Dunno, nothing seems to fit perfectly. I wouldn't think it was Pure Miriam, since that's already been announced, and as a skin and and not a character.

I'm guessing it might be an indie crossover that they say isn't shovel knight... Which means it absolutely isn't shovel knight or it TOTES M'GODDAMN GOATS IS THE SHOVEL KNIGHT. |

Hmm, I think the 3rd playable character is a shapeshifter under the guise of one of the other characters, my money's on Dominique. A few of the Geotia, or a some other creature, would probably be capable of shapeshifting, right?
