Hello everyone,
The May 2018 Kickstarter Update has just been published here for everyone.
Below are all the results pulled straight from the "Bloodstained Feedback Survey" we recently published. Almost 27,000 fans answered and almost every question had a 95% answer rate or more! Thank you so much to everyone for taking the time to tell us how you feel on lots of different topics.
Just some quick disclaimers:
1) While all of these results provide very valuable insight for us at 505 Games and ArtPlay, and we always strive to satisfy our fans and their feedback, please remember that...
these survey results do not automatically guarantee future actions, features or plans.
Sorry to go big bad scary publisher for a moment, I just don't want anyone having any doubts and then feeling disappointed because they saw a result in this survey and thought "why wasn't this in the game? It was the most voted option!" etc.
2) We're not publishing all the unique "other" results from some of the questions because that would be impractical, but rest assured that we've collected and reviewed them all. Spoiler: None of the "other" answers beat any of the main options, but apparently lots of people want a Cat Girl Miriam outfit...how did I not think of that? haha
3) Also some real talk, we didn't have time to dress up the results and make them pretty, so the image quality on some of the answers isn't the best, and Google cut off the text for one set of answer options that were too long, for that one there's a separate clarification under it that will remind everyone what the options were. Bright side is, that since all of this is pulled straight from the survey you know it's all authentic! #silverlinings lol
That's it! Take a look, share your thoughts and feedback, and thank you again!
Clarifying the possible answers since they got cut off:
Blue: Make the content available to every purchaser of the game regardless of the level backed. Red/Orange: Wait a period of time after launch, then release the content. Yellow: Change nothing, the content will remain exclusive to a select few forever. Green: Content will be available to everyone with alternate skins, that the $60 and above backers will receive in addition to the original skins. Purple: "Deluxe Edition" at launch that will contain the extra content for a price of at least $60.Light Blue: Other

I feel like some of these had inspiration from this forum...
hehe.
So Deluxe Edition got top votes followed by wait some time before making it available for purchase.
Was this expected? And are plans set in motion of which we will know about in next month kickstarter or? Not saying this thing will happen, just if you are able to make official announcement now, or need more time?

This part is so awesome... Releasing the game when the desired quality has been achieved is most important. (96.3%)So if you choose to listen to the fans, everything promised in the kickstarter (plus DLC for the regular retail copy) will be avaliable on the actual disc/gamecard of the kickstarter version of the game... right? Or is it desired to not have everything on disc and/or game card? Is it already decided that the physical games will be incomplete? I'd love some clarification, please.

Im so proud of you guys for not going for the easy, generic and lazy targets for outfits and actually choosing them the least (nun and maid). I thought things would go the other way around with something like Maid taking first place and a Valkyrie being close to last. Kudos!

very very happy with the results! particularly the outfit survey. im not a fan of provocative or sexually appealing outfits but i do respect those that want them and their opinions as well. also extremely happy with the result of the backer exclusive content, honestly i was expecting more people voting for exclusive to stay exclusive but im actually surprised that a lot of people considered non backers (then again the survey was open for everyone). and yes, i did read the big disclaimers stating that these results don't guarantee future actions or changes for the game but still, very happy

I guess the age demographic of the game helped a lot for valkerie and elegant vampire to win, if it was lower I know maid would have gotten top 3. I'm also mostly sure that succubus got 3rd because Castlevania always had those in game.

I kinda want that one Dragon Miriam that's been going around the web for a while. But that's just me.I do like most of the results. But those top 3 results about the Backer Edition. That's a big 74.8% in favor of making it not exclusive "sooner if not later". But that question alone had the Discord rather messy for weeks since this survey came along...

The "are you planning on buying Bloodstained" question was a little strange since many of the respondents would be backers who have technically already purchased it. I guess most said "yes" anyway, but there should have been an N/A or "backer" option.

I am surprised most people expect to pay $40.00 for the standard edition of Bloodstained! Most PS4 games here are going for $80...

I bet the results would have been different if it was a backer only survey. I wanted nun because it would be funny to be reminded of castlevania judgment.

I am surprised most people expect to pay $40.00 for the standard edition of Bloodstained! Most PS4 games here are going for $80... I presume that is for the recommended price that shops can set their prices for in the USA, and probably the digital price as well. Different countries have different taxes for video games and some areas have the prices higher to keep shops open due to lower sales and other restrictions. So where I live a 40 dollar game would be a 48.8 dollar game, and a 60 dollar game would be 73.26 dollar game. And that is just for my country's video game tax. Then you have the other reason why it's most likely a 40 dollar game and not a 60 dollar game. That is that it's a triple-I game and not a triple-A game. If we go by the movie analogy a triple-A game is a blockbuster movie type game and triple-I is a B movie type game, in terms of budget and size. That is the easiest way I can think of to explain it, there are probably better analogies but I don't know any other way to explain it.

Viftech That's true, but for me it's more about if it is a physical copy or not. I mean digital was what, $28 for backers? I think $60 for physical. I guess the question wasn't specific enough. I can understand $40 for digital, but not physical.

I am surprised most people expect to pay $40.00 for the standard edition of Bloodstained! Most PS4 games here are going for $80... I think its because people are looking at Bloodstained with an Indie mentality and not a AAA mentality. I mean come on guys we're getting the biggest castlevania game thats ever been made by a producer thats been unchained by the shackles of large development, no more big brother telling Iga what he can and can't do. That alone was worth my $60 dollar backing and should be worth a typical AAA $60 price tag.

I bet the results would have been different if it was a backer only survey. I wanted nun because it would be funny to be reminded of castlevania judgment. Not that much different, I'd say, since it the responses were from 80-85% backers or more (depending on how many became one after saying "not yet") and they can see which type of person voted for what, too (i.e. backers said x, non-backers voted y). Where it gets tricky however is if this were theoretically locked to KS backers only. Slacker folks who maybe got into the campaign only weeks ago wouldn't feel as strongly about backer content as people that jumped on in May 2015. Backer content result thoughts, because it was kind of surprising to me (image again for reference) i.imgur.com/F29sD9I.jpgAlt skins is one of the lowest rated, and I think part of that is how it may be a misunderstanding of what it means. It's just weird that a compromise was the least popular option, because the feeling I got from discussing it online it felt like that's what would work between parties - but perhaps in a private anonymous poll, you don't want to compromise or have to think about it yet? lol. Breaking down these numbers specifically imo: Blue 16.8 (everybody gets it immediately) - you can bet that this is 99.9% people who said "no" to "have you backed Bloodstained yet". Why would they say otherwise? Red 20 (timed exclusive) - I thought this and skins would be close, but this being lower, and higher than purple. Yellow 11.1 (hard exclusive) - A good bit lower than I thought. Backers are generous and don't per se mind sharing overall, I guess. Blue would be lower than yellow if this was backer-only respondents, obviously. Green 8.7 (skin compromise) - What I voted for, and some may not have thought about how it means more content for the backers overall or got confused by wording. Still perplexing regardless it's the lowest Purple 38 (deluxe edition) - The clear majority, and what seemed to me anyway to be the most likely avenue that would be taken. Light blue 5.4 (other) - I've seen some people post their "other" input a couple of times, and it was essentially just the skin compromise, just worded differently or slightly altered. May have not fully understood that's what green was. Wonder what some of the other ideas could have even been? Day 1 extra paid DLC? haha I can't imagine people wanting that. I imagine some did put in "this was a bad idea, just cancel it altogether". Overall, at least 83.5% of these respondents are fine with the loss of full-on locked exclusivity, and even if you account for the possible non-backer votes, slacker votes, and so on, that's definitely a strong number. Also let's look at what amount of backers who want SOME form of exclusivity vs. only fully. 8.7 + 11.1 + 20 + perhaps some in the "other" camp equals just around 40%, all being people that want at least a period of having the content to themselves, if not forever. The other non-exclusive side probably includes nearly all of the "no" crowd for backing. Also recall what I mentioned earlier about slacker backers - they wouldn't have as much attachment to the 2015 promises. ...also, about...550-600 people know who Goofball is/decided to answer the last question in reference to him. I would of course wager that population is 95% our forum and Discord regulars/lurkers. Silk bag guys being big OG classicvania fans and a slightly higher number. The inconsequential turtles beats both of them out (and is also the green part lool), showing that...yeah we're a minority, but we're still important ;p ...and of course many regulars likely chose the quote answer too because that's "correct".

THink they should've come out with this survey before the Pledgemanager closed, Bet many (like me) Bought a cpl extra copies of the Kickstarter exclusive version of the game. Of course for collecting/future value. Oh well Of course I rather have a good game, But doesn't hurt to think in a business orientated way at the same time (it's a habit)

Willing to bet those official communication results would be quite a bit different now. Also, was this or was this not open to the public? Someone earlier in this thread implied it was open to the public but then the update calls it the "backer feedback survey".

Someone earlier in this thread implied it was open to the public but then the update calls it the "backer feedback survey". This was the "Bloodstained Feedback Survey" and it was open to everyone who had a gmail account. These results would have been skewed by recent events with CotM, as here at 505 Games we only handle communication and publishing for the main game, Ritual of the Night.

The survey was open to everyone. It was put on every media outlet and even had some external articles written about it. Anyone that had a Google account and was interested could take it. THink they should've come out with this survey before the Pledgemanager closed, Bet many (like me) Bought a cpl extra copies of the Kickstarter exclusive version of the game. Of course for collecting/future value. Oh well Of course I rather have a good game, But doesn't hurt to think in a business orientated way at the same time (it's a habit) How do you mean? The survey was taken while the pledge manager was still up. It ran from 4/19 to 5/1. Pledging closed 5/14, platform change 5/18. They actually announced that the slacker backing would be closing during the survey period. Also, "items with special effects" "meet Dominique" I'm interested in this
