i swear this is the last time i make a cooking mama joke in my life . when i said "cooking mama with Miriam" i was making a joke referencing XombieMike commentary in the podcast not that i wanted to have an actual cooking mama in the game. even i think thats unfiting in Bloodstained. im also pretty sure i said im EXPECTING A COOKING MINIGAME OR JUST A COOKING FEATURE never said it had to be cooking mama carbon copy with gothic style and exotic food and i also never said that i wanted it. like i said before im a potion guy and i rather make lots of colorful potions than Mac n cheese but i dont mind to give it a try. SOTN IS BROKEN! IN TEMRS OF USEFULNESS!! and balance. yes weapons were pretty much unique and thats my favorite thing of the game and the way you use them depends pretty much on your style but that doesnt have a huge or noticeable impact on the game. consumable buffs: were optional but not needed not even for a new player that has never played sidescrollers thrown items: nice damage from safe distance but limited and that same damage could be dealt by spending some MP on spirits. foods: well they were faster than potions but usually weaker and if i met Alucard irl my first question would be: why do you throw the food the floor before eating it? the game give you to many options and thats amazing but i happen to have this one sword that does damage for free at a very fast rate without degrading or breaking. purifyweirdshard already mentioned the rest and cursing doppel was not always a good idea. when i did it he ended up spamming knives and wing dashes so i was forced to "glitch him" to make him jump at me over and over until he died. Crissaegrim is not the only unbalanced weapon in the game and you get that late game also while claihm solais was under the category of broken it was supernerfed in the subsequent games (slowed down with the bonus stats removed). in SOTN all you needed to run through the game without having to worry is~ 1. Tetra spirits
2. SOUL STEAL.
New game (First segment of the castle before Double Jump) - Any weapon (unless you are terrible at dodging or that you forget that you cant touch enemies the first segment is extremely easy (ignoring Ctulhu)) - Rapier (extremely powerful special attack that has 0 MP cost)
- Firebrand (many enemies are weak to fire and its special attack its so strong it makes Ice and thunderbrands look weak however its costly) - Potions and Food (being the beggining of the game the player has acces to some recovery items, also potions are cheap and droped by bats as soon as the game begins)(and yes im aware a new player will not know about the hidden items or monster drops but still!)
Early Game (Double Jump and acces to the Arena) - A weapon of your choice (game difficulty increases a bit but so does the player skill. this time the player has a wide choice for exploration and acces to more powerful weapons) - Shield Rod + Iron Shield (Extremely Broken can decimte entire rooms and destroy bosses in 1 to 3 casts for low MP cost. tho new player will probably wont know about were to get iron shield or the shield rod secret)
- Rapier or Werebane (Still viable options due to their stupid specials) *-Ring of Varda (theres a parantrophus in the arena but it will only drop the ring if you have finished the game at least once)
Mid Game (Bat form and the super jump) - A weapon of your choice (you are still in the first castle and the difficulty its pretty much the same even if you didnt overlevel)
- Shield Rod + Iron shield (still dominates) - SOUL STEAL (player should have enough MP to cast it a few times and can easily Replace Healing items unless you have to use it for transformations also aparently candles and walls have souls too)
- Spike breaker (very high defense for a critical item ,in fact i think it has the highest defense for castle 1 only losing to Diamond mail but that thing is super expensive)
Late Game (Inversed Castle)
- A powerful weapon (sht got serious and player will probably die A LOT unless ofc player rushes the next weapons)
- Crissaegrim - Marsil (Firebrand in a nutshell)
- Dark Shield (scary look and scary Damage) - Mablung sword (Shield rod with higher damage and increase to defense)
- Alucard shield + shield rod/mablung sword (you become God) - Red looking katana i think it was yasutsuna? or osafune? i forgot (super high damage but reduces your DEF to 0)
- Lunar Rod (Special attack that does huge damage in a large area from very safe distance)
- Sword familiar leveled (if you got it to at least lv40 or higher its really powerful as a familiar)
- even More Soul steal (you should be leveling like crazy till lv45 before final knights so your MP should be high enough to cast it 5 or more times in a row)
- More katanas because katanas are OP
- Alucard sword (not really overpowered but still strong)
- Alucard Mail (broken defense against Fire, Ice and Thunder)
im sure i forgot some really OP weapons. LeoLeWolferoux i cant really blame XombieMike for that, it was the perfect chance to mention cooking mama. ... hey arent you the master of Bloodstained Demo grinding? can i have your Autograph? I know your making the point that the game is too easy because of how unbalanced it is but all I'm reading is... it had this cool feature and that cool feature and this cool weapon and that cool weapon

At this point I think I'm obligated to dedicate an entire episode to cooking in Bloodstained. You are all invited to be a panel of guests to promote your personal views on what you would enjoy the most or least. Posting quotes and quotes of quotes is much too organized and planned out. I need to hear a real time evolution of this conversation.
I've noted before that I've been surprised on how important food is to Igavaniacs. Food as a weapon seems to be a meme when we do dice rolling contests.

Hey everyone, it's only natural to be super passionate about concerns and/or hopes you have for the game, but my only suggestion would be not to worry too much about things that haven't been fully presented to you in an official manner yet. Food is an element of the game, one of many, but it's intended to be fun and a small part of the game, so I hope anyone concerned about cooking/food/etc. derailing the spirit or enjoyment of the game has their fears assuaged.

COOL let's do it...! Time. And. Date.

Personally speaking, I'm not interested in a cooking mechanic in Bloodstained. I think it would slow the game down too much and make it overly convoluted. On that note, I largely didn't like cooking in Breath of the Wild. It made sense thematically, but mechanically, I found it an awkward shortcut that bypassed the need for more rewarding exploration. (i.e. I'd rather uncover a magic cape in an old crypt that makes me invisible than make sure I scour the earth for the ingredients necessary to make a brew that will give me stealth properties.)

Ah no, that's my doing, testing out having some sort of tag (In this case "official") when a thread has a response from an official ArtPlay/505 Games member. It's supposed to let people know that there's a message "straight from the horse's mouth", so to speak. If it doesn't work or ends up feeling off we'll just stop using it, no worries. Edit: In fact, I've removed it as it affected the entire thread and not my individual posts, making it look like the thread was created by official staff. Oh well, experiment ended, lol. May still use it for threads I actually create though.

Or have a boarder color with thickness 5px, bright colored.

Okay, I'll just leave my thoughts here:
I'd rather there not be some kind of cooking minigame, like Pokeblock blending or what have you. Finding various ingredients to make temporary buff potions just doesnt seem like an additional gameplay system we need. BUT there ARE ways I could see something involving ingredients work in a way I'd find acceptable.
I believe Order of Ecclesia had one of the shopkeepers basically offer additional healing items if you brought him/her ingredients. So I could see Dominique/Anne having a little quest like "Bring me 3 Thyme and 2 Eye of newt and I can add High potions to the shop" or something of that nature, that way finding ingredients compliments a feature that already exists instead of being its own feature, The last thing I want to see here is feature bloat, where there are so many systems and gimmicks in place that the game ends up feeling like less than the sum of its parts.
To me, part of the fun of the food in IGAvanias was that you'd just FIND a slice of pizza hidden in some sub-basement. It was funny, weird and charming. It'd be less special if Miriam could just make pizza. Maybe that makes no sense, but I hope it does :3

if this is a hint then..... RIP Cookstained: Kitchen of the Night~ you will be remembered as a controversial topic with mixed opinions and thoughts. P.S tbh im happy about this that means the new secret feature remains secret.
P.S.S unless that hint was not an actual hint and cooking still lives

I too agree with the pleasure of finding pre-cooked food lying around or inside walls, inexplicably. It's just so charming and game-y, as games should be, and has often been lost haha yeah what a topic this was. As fun as it is to stir the pot, I guess we can ease off for now

Cooking in Bloodstained? I am quite against it, actually. Here are my reasons: - It could be used to create food to recover HP/MP or grant buffs, I do fear it would make the game easier.
- We already got crafting as an intricate system.
- Where would you want to prepare food? Surely you cannot do it everywhere. Where to find ingredients and recipes?
- Recipes tied to the region and time will need extra research while the deadline is slowly approaching. Just forget about possible modern ones put for convenience. That castle won't be a creature of chaos, so there shouldn't be anachronisms.
- I'm not sure if Miriam is ready to cook for herself or the others. She is a bit on borrowed time, you see...
I don't see it as a minigame either, those failing at it would feel they're missing an opportunity for a bonus.
Now if it was delivered as a standalone game or as a flash game (with website and all), maybe that could be fun. "(character) prepares food for the villagers".
Additional note: Even cooking became irrelevant in the Tales series. In Zestiria, you don't cook, you choose a formula at the inn. That was boring.

Cooking in Bloodstained? I am quite against it, actually. Here are my reasons: It could be used to create food to recover HP/MP or grant buffs, I do fear it would make the game easier. Not if you would need to find the ingredients which are limited. We already got crafting as an intricate system. Sure, and with that a currency, how about not find ingredients to make own food, but rather give that magic water to a merchant so they can make a medicin or something for the people in the village, as a token of gratitude - you get one too.Where would you want to prepare food? Surely you cannot do it everywhere. Where to find ingredients and recipes? In the kitchen. If there is one in the castle. But yeah, at a merchant. Perhaps alchemy is key here too with potions to create food from thin air. And you would find these from enemies as droped ingredients, and recipes from the library and from pots if we ever get to fight against a wicked witch cooking some stew.I'm not sure if Miriam is ready to cook for herself or the others. She is a bit on borrowed time, you see... I agree. And I kind of not dislike the idea of cooking, just if it were to be in the game it really should be an option. Like, "oh well, I already got 5 of these and 2 of these, might as well sell / trade them to make food for it in one easy swap with a merchant. Finding food ready-to-eat would be much more fun for me, but as it stands I am never against options. And having an option like cooking or a minimal game of some kind, perhaps along with the crafting, it would make sense to actually use alchemy to make a ... Cake sword that dish out cake until the "blade" is all gone.. Right? ...

I wouldn't mind something simple where if you happened to pick up some specific food items that would typically be usable individually you could combine them into something else that has a somewhat better effect. Macaroni + Cheese = Mac & Cheese. If you had to travel somewhere specific such as a kitchen room to perform the combinations I doubt I'd bother for the most part.

@enkeriagin may as well consider that you wouldn't mind a series of dedicated quests regarding ingredients to find, or a bartering system. As for limited supplies, the gamers that love to hoard items will end complaining that they couldn't know these resources were finite. Do you really want that to happen?

"Crafting is already a system" is more of an argument for making food rather than against it. What is cooking but the act of crafting food? It could just have a different accompanying animation or subsystem to it.
That said, I agree with others who previously said that they enjoy finding pre-prepared food scattered throughout the castle, dropped from enemies, in walls, etc. That's a classic 'vania charm, of course. They're often even plated/packaged nicely, and from other countries/times ;p
