Maybe. I wouldn't mind. Shenmue deserves to stand on the same level, in the top three most funded, at least.

why does it get more than 30 days? hax. Honestly though I would be kinda floored if it does. Shenmue only has a couple games under its legacy, the first of which is on a system very few people even got to try. Castlevania on the otherhand has had a strong presence in the video gaming industry since the NES, and it never really had a jumped the shark phase.
edit: Plus I think Bloodstained kinda deserves to reign at #1 most funded for awhile...Would be a shame if we were only up for like a single month =/

well, tbh, i think it helps that they used E3 as a way to publicize it... if bloodstained had that, i think we could've raked in more...

I dunno man, Shenmue might not have a lot of games in the series, and it's a cult game, but believe me, it's a BIG effin cult.

Well, they pretty much guaranteed(cheated) the success of Shenmue 3 by showing it in E3 of all places. Bloodstained had no such publicity. If it did, the funds would be twice the amount. Being annoyed is understandable, even though we got every stretch goal anyways.
At any rate, it doesn't seem like Shenmue 3 will have any ingame backer exclusive content, just collectables like artbooks if you pledge enough money. You won't miss out on much if you don't back it.

This is why it annoys me to be honest. That and no XBox One port. I don't have a PS4 and don't do well with PC gaming. I would have liked to have played it, but nope. Also the stretch goals are lame compared to the trouble IGA and co. are going to.

I'm thinking there was insider info. Ben Judd, Iga and team all stated that they picked their funding time specifically to end right before E3. Legendary game makers don't wanna step on each other's toes lol.

Most likely, and it's another campaign I'm going to gladly fund. I'm a hue fan of both Shenmue and Yakuza.

No Xbox port, and no physical console discs. It's not a ground breaking Kickstarter, but it will set records. E3 is a huge boon for them, but I think we got the better deal all around. There's no doubt Ben Judd was aware of this and factored it into the BS timeline.
Just makes me appreciate our efforts even more! We rock guys =)

I'm thinking there was insider info. Ben Judd, Iga and team all stated that they picked their funding time specifically to end right before E3. Legendary game makers don't wanna step on each other's toes lol. Yeah, I remember when Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen had their KS going at the same time. Granted, both ended up succeeding, but I couldn't back both at the same time and had to choose one. As for making records... a ground breaking classic cut at a cliffhanger, with a rabid fanbase, created by a legendary developer, advertised at E3... I'm going to go with "it's possible." And I hope it does. Setting aside the fact that I don't think anyone expected this to happen ever(like I would have bet on getting a FF7 remake, Half Life 3 and Megaman Legends 3 announced in the same year before I would have bet on this), Shenmue was an expensive game to make, so it's going to need all the help it can get. The overwhelming success of Bloodstained was welcome, and we'll be getting far more than IGA initially expected because of it. An overwhelming success for Shenmue just means that they can cut less corners in trying to get to what they need.

Honestly I'm really floored at how acclaimed this shenmue game is. I never heard of it! and uhh. I really really don't live in a cave when it comes to gaming. I've gamed since the atari 2600, I've purchased indie games before they were called indie and were called shareware, I've owned consoles, portables, PCs, Macintosh PCs, I've bought games for all of them. I craved hard games long before demons' souls made them a fad, before I Wanna be the guy made it a half-fad. I've been a fan of Doujin games before people even said 'indie-game', and people STILL ignore doujin games. I'm named Ghaleon after Ghaleon from lunar: the silver star, because I was a die-hard fan thanks to the sega-CD version, when it was new, NOT the PS1 Remake, and I've always been named such since 199x. I've played games online when my 14.4k modem was top of the line.
How the crap is everyone wetting their pants on a game I never heard of? Seriously? rawwrrrrgh! =P

It was an open world game before GTA3 made it popular. It was... well, check out the intro: This was in 1999.

It was originally a Dreamcast title. It essentially created the QTE (quick time event)as gameplay genre of action sequences which has directly influenced things like uncharted and heavy rain.
For its time it was technically astounding both mechanically and graphically, but I only played the first one because in practice... It was slow, full of tedious mini games and clunky to control. I can't speak to the second, nor will I play the third, but obviously the story was gripping enough for some.
They will need to make a ton of money to even scratch the surface of previous games' budgets. I think the first cost something like 73 million... In 1999. Chances are they have funding behind the scenes and aren't taking about it.

Chances are they have funding behind the scenes and aren't taking about it. The second one had better pacing and more action scenes, so it might be worth a play even if the first didn't grab you. As far as the budget goes, I don't think it would take as much money to make Shenmue 3 as the first two. They don't have to make a custom engine this time, and one of the reasons the first cost so much money is that it was originally supposed to be a Saturn game until that system lost support, and the team had to remake it for the Dreamcast. Granted, $2M isn't going to be enough, and you're likely right about the outside funding, but I don't think it's quite as bad as the numbers would suggest.
