I guess it makes sense in context since X5, while still not bad, was the beginning of the end. That's still a bit weird. I mean, it would make some degree of sense for the Switch since, you know, not disks and whatever, but for the others... very puzzling marketing choice, if they are indeed separate purchases. Regardless, if that is the case, first antology is a sure day 1 purchase. Don't know about the second one. I have some minor nostalgia for X5 and X6, but that's about it. |

Hmm, will X Challenge also incorporate X7 and X8? X7 functions very differently from the other games so I can't really see that working, unless they completely rework the X7 bosses for the sake of X Challenge to fit the 2-D style. Because only a few bosses in X7 were fought in the 2.5D manner. (Mega Scorpio, the first Sigma battle, Soldier Stonekong, and Wind Crowrang)
Regardless, definitely be getting this. I get a certain bit of pleasure from X7. X7, at the very least, tried to actually innovate the formula and feel different then its predecessors. It went about it in the wrong way and ended up being horribly horrible, but I can respect the effort.

And all the trolls are screaming again saying "Capcom is being greedy again." Well... Not really. Capcom is being smarter then how they handled Street Fighter 5 and MvC Infinite PR wise. It's not perfect but I'll get to that.
Pros:
We are getting the main X series right from the get go. No delays. All of them.
For 40$, that is 5$/game. That is super cheap when you take into consideration all the bonus content added.
You don't have to buy the full set. You can have X1-X4 for only 20$ (5$/Game logic) and literally save the other 20$. (AKA Having options)
Cons:
They are marketing this product as two separate things despite them being two halves of a whole franchise. I would have marketed this as "You can have the Main X series in a single go or, if you prefer, you can purchase one halve now at half off and you decide if you want the other half."
Neutral:
With the right to buy half of the X series, you also forfeit half the bonus content of the other half as well. Buy X1-X4 and odds we are not getting the soundtrack from X5-X8 and vice versa.
Command Mission and Xtreme games not included. I don't mind as possible dlc as long as their stick to the 5$/game logic. There are probably still royalties tied to those games that Capcom will have to pay to make it available for purchase.

I'm gonna buy the whole bundle, not sure getting Switch version or PS4 version though.
X5 is my introduction to the whole Megaman series, I bought a graphics card just for playing X8, also had a lot of good time with X6, albeit it's way too hard for me at that time (looking at you, Gate).
Somehow I jumped over X7, and I don't regret that...

I do believe that $20 each is a pretty honest deal. If as it has been said the whole package is sold at exactly double that price then I see no problems at all if they are separated. It's comfortable for anyone. If it was a single $50 purchase people would have probably complained about not wanting to pay extra for the games they don't like so whatever.
People on the internet will always complain about anything no matter what.

I liked that annoucement and i think this is actually a good idea.
I wonder if Capcom is trying to do what they did when they released Darkstalkers on Xbox live and such (trying to see if there was still audience for it), abeit they did that in a lazy way.
The Megaman series is, among Castlevania, one of my favorite game series. I played almost all of them. If i'm not mistaken, i played Megaman 7, 8, X1 through X8, Zero 1, 2, 3, 4 and the ZX series (abeit not much).
What i really would like to see, is a follow up to the main series. All Megaman series are cannonically connected. Plot-wise, i consider Megaman Zero series to be the best of them all, and i really would like to see a comeback to that "post-apocalyptic" war zone with our heries in a resistance fightning against a oppressor dictactorship. I always thought that was such a great approach to the series they should try it again.
But anyways, reviving the old series in a new way is always good too.

I'm just wondering how the story of a possible "X9" would unfold.
It was confirmed quite a while back that the events of the Zero series are the result of Zero's alternate ending in X6. The later X-series games (X7, X8, & Command Mission) are the result of X's ending in X6.
So we essentially have a timeline split on our hands here... and maybe more characters to choose from? I'm guessing X9 wouldn't go in the same "post-apocalyptic" direction that the Zero series did.
(EDIT): Kinda makes me want X9 to be another sidescroller, but with vague "Igavania" RPG elements.

From what I've gathered, the event that occurs in Zero's X6 ending takes place at a later, unspecified point in the series (not necessarily within MMX6). I don't think an alternate timeline is in play.
I'm also curious where a possible X9 might take place.
If I remember correctly, Command Mission is suppose to take place quit some time after X8 (X8 being set in 21XX and CM in 22XX). I guess there could also be more playable characters, especially if set after CM.
