Her art is indeed good, but isn't it a bit too late to bring her in? I mean, sure, maybe if this was a pre-campaign thing, but now Natsume should have finished all art by now. Maybe have her be an option in future endeavors? As angel mentioned, Natsume did most of the campaign art with Inti, but we've had an opportunity for new blood for a while. There's more than enough time for Mana to do a lot of schtuff as an artist

I know you obviously have the best intentions but, with all due respect, I wish you'd not refer to Mana like that. As if we're "settling" for the "2nd best". Mana is incredible in her own right and also, as far as I'm concerned, more talented than Kojima herself. I was never a huge Kojima fan but Mana's art I instantly fell in love with. Hell, I liked Order of Ecclessia's artist more than Kojima, let alone Mana! I don't like Mana because "that's the closest I'll get to Ayami Kojima". I like her because she's awesome. Period. Keep on truckin'! I don't think that was the intent of that post or even anything close. I think we all seem to be in agreement that Mana's art is fantastic. But Kojima Ayami is to IGA era Castlevania what Uematsu Nobuo or Amano Yoshitaka are to Final Fantasy. What John Williams is to Star Wars. Whether you personally like their work or not, they are all very much a part of their respective franchises' identity. Getting Kojima for Bloodstained would be on the same level as having Yamane for the music: it just brings everything that much closer to its parent franchise. And it's not like the comparisons are without merit. There are some parallels in their art styles, though certainly they aren't identical. If your mindset was that you hoped for an art style more similar to the classic Igavania cover art, then saying that you preferred Mana's art style to a more manga-influenced artist is certainly a valid way of thinking. And if you happen to like her artwork for other reasons, then that's great too. But you aren't going to escape the comparisons in a game that is deliberately patterned after the game it's being compared to. Yeah. Also I know Aztec thinks the world of Mana, as we all do, and was expressing how much he appreciates her, but also remember that Mana has explicitly said Ayami Kojima was a huge inspiration to her. I doubt Mana-mana would mind the comparison

I voted yes, obviously Dengojin Mana's very busy, yeah, but part of the reason we brought Angel and 505 games on is to take some of that pressure off, so if there's enough demand, it wouldn't be too difficult to have her be promoted to full time artist and someone from 505 come in to do translations and stuff.

I wished to see that discussion for a while. I would like for this to signify a bad end (bad choice route)... That said, it would mean that Miriam would be impossible to save. Would she be an alternate rival boss or final one? That's an interesting idea. Maybe it could be a situation like in Dawn of Sorrow, where Soma got corrupted and his friends had to fight him. Maybe Dominique and Zangetsu will travel through the castle to face Miriam.

also, another point people may not realize with this reveal is this means iga has the story pretty much finalized, the bosses and cutscenes are in a state of done enough that voice actors can be brought in to voice lines, they have johnathan joestar, sir integra fairbrook wingates fucking hellsing, sailor jupiter, chad, and several that i dont know but their voices sound goooood, they arent pulling any punches on quality even in the voice dept (now to hope the localization team can pull similar quality beyond hayter and belgrade when their turn comes), and any boss arena and accompanying area is done enough to start marrying battle sounds and triggers, so dont scoff at its face value, theres a lot to be gleaned on where the game is in development I don't think that point is missed at all. We could assume that was already the case because of alpha talk, because of the game coming out early next year. It's easy for people to be excited about this update when you follow this kind of stuff, but for those of us who don't the update was essentially character portraits. We saw the IGA business card with teases on it so naturally people might think the next update might feature some content or features in the game. We sent questions to Curry (which Mana clarified now he's been very busy which is completely understandable)....the mention of a potential alpha in a couple interviews... There's a lot OUT there that people might think....oh the update is taking a while so maybe it'll show some of this stuff. In the end it turns out to be about one specific thing focused on a specific group of people who are into that sort of thing. * So it's reasonable not unreasonable to be disappointed. I guess my point is - Let people get their mehs out so they can be normal again. No sense arguing why they are wrong to feel the way they do. It's easy for people to say that when they DO follow Japanese voice actors. As long as people are being respectful about it. * I'm am in no way implying there isn't a big audience FOR this type of update. I guess the important thing is the assurance that development is going well. I know what you're saying, in that not everybody is interested in the JPN voices, but on the other hand, since everyone is keenly interested in how the game as a whole is going, it is a relief that they're doing voices of any sort, since that means assets and stuff have been completed. So while we wait for a hopefully meatier new update, what we have now is just to maintain our faith in IGA and assure us that we won't have to worry about another delay, or incompletion, or whatever.

Sorry if I'm a little late to this conversation, but I just wanted to briefly mention that I was physically there for this interview, and I don't remember Mana ever saying that line about "thought about the modern social movement in America" or whatever, I could be wrong of course, but I didn't hear that.
Having said that, I checked up on this just for my personal curiosity, and if it had been said, it sounds like something that got lost in translation, because Iga was talking about how female leads in general weren't viewed as taking a big risk anymore, since they were more and more common even in big name games. "Movement" in the sense of people's perceptions, so to speak.
He wasn't talking about any feminism movement or anything else regarding social activism. If anyone looks at even what we've revealed so far, both in terms of character design, bosses etc., and the first thing they think is "oh yeah, this definitely panders to social activists / feminists / etc." well...I mean I don't even know what I would say to that haha.
Iga only cares about one thing when it comes to this: delivering on his artistic vision to create the game he's been dreaming up in his head all these years. Every conversation I've heard him talk about his reasoning for choosing a female lead was purely market & art driven, not driven by activism or social movements or anything else.
Anyway, hope that helps, regardless of whether you prefer a female or male protagonist. Yeah, after reading a lot of these interviews I get the feeling that these media guys are just kinda summarizing (and leaking their own preconceived notions into the next) instead of accurately reporting what IGA said or how Mana translated. >:[

Hmm...I don't think the Mysterious Man will be a very Alucard-like character, for a couple of reasons. 1: The obvious legal stuff. IGA doesn't wanna get into trouble with Konami, after all XD 2: IGA's personal preferences. Yeah, this is an IGAvania, but the leader of the Army of the Night wants to really strike out on his own and create his own setting. So aside from Gebel being "dracula-ish," I don't think we'll see many direct analogues to Castlevania characters. 3: He gives me the sense of being kind of a traveler...check out his footwear. He's not wearing fancy leggings or boots like Alucard did, at least judging by the silhouette. It seems that the "tongue" (I think that's the word?) of the footwear looks more like shoes than anything else, which tells me he might not be aristocratic but rather a wanderer. So, given all this, I bet he's probably an antagonist, or at least starts off as an antagonist before Miriam wins him over. I bet he might be a traveling alchemist or sorceror who's in the castle in order to steal Gebel's secrets and use them for his own ends. Miriam, naturally, can't let that stand But that's just me...;D

Don't get me wrong, this is certainly good stuff to know (hopefully the game is dual audio), and I'm glad we're getting such skilled voice actors and actresses to work on this game, but I really did think that the update would be something bigger. I thought we were going to get a solid date regarding the early access with this update, since there were rumors it was coming out last month anyways. The fact that it has been 3 months since the last substantial update only for us to get this is worrisome. Is everything going okay on the development side? Do they just not have enough done right now to show us footage of areas we've never seen before, or do they just not want to spoil any more areas until the early access releases? We got info on the Japanese voice acting, and that's good...what about the English voice acting? Is that just not finished yet? I realize that I have a clear precedent of criticizing this game a lot more than praising it, and I really don't like having that precedent. I don't want to be remembered as "that guy who only spouted negativity" on these forums. However, when we get an update like this after 3 months...I can't truthfully say I'm feeling particularly positive. Well, I for one don't think you're being too negative, Zerosbr. Remember, the whole point of this forum, and the responsibility of not just mods and admins like me and Mike, but staff members like Mana and Angel-Corlux , is to pay attention to the concerns of our members. We ultimately answer to the Army of the Night, after all. So, as long as your worries are expressed respectfully, we won't criticize you--quite the opposite. You've definitely provided us good information and considerations to help us make the next update even better, so you won't be remembered as a negative guy, you'll be remembered as someone who contributed to the success of this game! Secondly, and to be open and transparent, I share your concerns. I've chatted with Angel and my fellow staff members on Discord about how scanty this update seems to be. However, listening to their responses and taking a wider view of things, I think there is something to be said for it if you "read between the lines," so to speak. First, note that they said "we've finished recording the Japanese voices for the characters." This is a pretty significant step, from what I understand--I think things get started on the voice acting front when a significant amount of assets have been completed for the game, and if they've got voices done for all these characters, they must have made some hefty progress on not just what we've seen, but also bosses, levels, plot, and that sort of thing. So even if they haven't shown us any new footage or screenshots, this should be evidence that development is proceeding well. Now, you may ask, as folks have legitimately asked ITT already, why didn't they show off any of the new assets they're working on? Well, I think they may have a good reason for that. Hear me out. I'm not sure how many of you guys go to other anime forums like I do, but everywhere I've went (and you can see this in the Kickstarter comments page), people are FLIPPING OUT over Ami Koshimizu. She's really one of the most famous and beloved voice actresses in Japan, thanks to Macross Delta and Kill La Kill. The other VAs, like the fellow behind Jonathan Joestar (!!!!) are also very well known. To announce those folks doing the voices for Bloodstained is pretty significant, so much so that I'd wager it would overshadow anything else they put into the update. For us hardcore IGA fans, we'd pay more attention to gameplay, sure, but the rest of the world would be too busy gushing about Ms. Koshimizu to even look at any new stages, weapons, footage, etc.! So from the public relations perspective, I think an update like this makes sense--give the gaming audience as a whole something to get super excited about (Ami Koshimizu!!!!!), and then maybe another more gameplay oriented update a little later.

Rant/ Ok, this will be my last update as my enthusiasm for this process has reached an all time low. I finally got an update tonight, Sept 10, for the hounds of hell tier. They are asking for a name and description for my pet with the deadline to reply being Sept 14... Less than 1 week notice and with a disclaimer that if they don't like the description they will change it. No discussion, no back and forth. For reference, I last heard from them(Mana) on July 20th in response to a question. I followed up on July 21, and after hearing nothing for over a month reached out again on August 29th... No response until this extremely rushed request for final info. I truly hope the game is amazing, but I certainly feel like my contribution has been an after thought. Please prove me wrong Iga. /Rant Hmm, maybe there was another email issue? Perhaps your messages weren't going through or they failed to receive them or something? I'll tag Mana here to make 100% the staff sees this, since forum posts can sometimes be more reliable than emails--if something has been going wrong in terms of communications, you can then use PMs as a backup.

Here's hoping Mana might be more involved with the art. I think her style is perfect for this series going forward. Hm, now where have I heard that before? heheh.
But yeah, Gally Moth isn't wrong, Kojima is just slated to do packaging work. Hopefully a poster of her art will be made available later (we asked this during the 505 interview). Beyond the concept art we've already seen, I'm not certain though that Yuji Natsume is still or has been producing art after the Dominique/Alfred/Anne concepts. Those themselves may have already been done during the time of the KS. Somebody has to be drawing a bunch of little 2D pieces for item icons and such at the very least, though...
But yeah, more Mana of course! We're looking at Igavania: The Next Generation here, after all. Mana might be the next Kojima

Arrrrgh. Thanks for the response, Angel, and I'll also to clear up some misconceptions. Before I begin, I'll just say 100% that I'm not angry at anyone here, and I totally understand ZeroSbr and CastleDan 's concerns. Same goes with everyone else at this forum. I know all you guys are cool, and that you not only support this project but you're also in the know, so you'll understand what I'm saying in this post. But there are gonna be a ton of people at other places who don't know as much as we do that are gonna be making a ton of hay over something that's actually no big deal (as I'll demonstrate in the main body of this post). It's gonna be quite a pain in the butt to correct all those misconceptions...Angel certainly has his work cut out for him, and me and XombieMike do too, given that we keep eyes on the project at other places like the CV Dungeon and Destructoid and places like that. Now, this is my interpretation, so I'm not putting an ironclad seal of approval on it until Angel-Corlux and Mike have signed off on it, but given everything I've seen in other games, I'm 95% my analysis is more or less accurate. So if Angel/Mike/Mana approves, I give you guys permission to copy and paste this anywhere you may go if you see folks nitpicking about Noisy Croak. Might make our job easier, haha XD On to the main body of my points. First, everybody, take a look at the Symphony of the Night credits: castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Symphony_of_the_Night_CreditsSpecifically, under the "-sound staff-" heading: Look at all the names there! Note that we have "O. Kasai" as a programmer and "Imohore Imai" as a mixer, along with several electric guitarists. You see the point I'm getting at? Even though Symphony of the Night is what Ms. Yamane is most known for, hands down, it's not like she did the whole thing herself. In fact, you could argue she had a whole studio with her. She composed the music, but that doesn't mean she programmed it in, or that she played the guitar we heard in tracks like Tragic Prince herself. She put the notes onto the bars and decided the instrumention, but other people played the instruments, provided the recording equipment, and translated the recordings into data onto the game. That, bluntly stated, is what Noisy Croak is gonna be doing. When IGA said "soundtrack creation" he literally meant the process of creating sound--somebody needs to actually make noise, and Ms. Yamane can't be a guitarist, violinist, organist, etc. all at the same time! And looking at the Noisy Croak website itself, I'm growing more and more certain that's the nature of the job--they're not replacing or upstaging Ms. Yamane, they're playing the songs she composes and programming them into the game under her direction. Check this out: www.noisycroak.co.jp/service/And put it into Google Translate. It gave me stuff like Even with a machine translation, it's easy to tell what this means: Noisy Croak ensures that songs loop properly, they aren't too loud or quiet, they don't mess up other sound effects, etc. etc. etc. It's essentially the same job O. Kasai did on SoTN as a music programmer, though of course they and IGA would be able to give all of you much more specific information than I am, haha. Now, IGA also mentioned that Yamane wouldn't be creating "all the soundtracks," but that's almost certainly a reference to A: the extra tracks we're getting from other composers like Virt and Yamada, and B: Probably a handful of other songs composed by staff members of Noisy Croak under Yamane's direct supervision. Possibly minor character themes, or very small music tracks that are more like sound effects than anything else but nonetheless need to be catchy--think the "Item gained" jingle from the Metroid games or small level-up themes from many RPGs. If they have an aspiring composer or two on their team, Ms. Yamane might let those folks make a more important stage or boss theme, but again, under her supervision (what IGA mentioned about making sure their songs "sound like what she would make) and as a mentoring kinda thing for younger composers. For the vast majority of the music, aside from the aforementioned bonus composers ofc, she'll have as much to do with it as she did in SoTN, which is what everyone wanted and expected from the kickstarter. TL;DR: Listen to Angel, this is nothing to panic over, and if you see anyone panicking about the soundtrack link 'em to this post.

Fangamer is supporting the Houston Foodbank with AGDQ! $8.50 of the hat's price goes to the charity, for instance. That's...quite a lot haha The white mage poster is brand new for this event. Also, there will be a special SGDQ this weekend to raise money for Harvey relief. I think the food bank will be the charity, too. Man, fangamer really is good people This sounds like a worthy cause!

I'm also fine with staggered release. That model seemed to work well with Shovel Knight, though I must make clear that any price increases later on probably won't go over well. Shovel Knight had a lot of leeway for splitting itself up into Shovel of Hope/Plague of Shadows/Specter of Torment, but I'm not sure if the same approach would work for Bloodstained. A staggered release where we get everything eventually, though, should be fine. I'm willing to bet release sales of the base game will more than pay for future content, especially with David Hayter-sama lending his star power
