I could have sworn there was a SF5 topic already, but I guess there isn't? KARIN YAAAAAAAAAAY  Now, I just want Rose in the game at some point. They should be revealing 4 more characters total, 2 new and 2 returning. The two last returning ones will probably (and should) be Alex and Urien. That should make up for the Alpha 4 vibe everybody is getting right now, which I personally am fine with lol. Those are my favorite SFs. What are you guys' thoughts? I like how they're going in new directions while also sticking to a very classic and honest design. |

For some reason I really want Oro to make a comeback haha. He was a goofy/funny/unique character to me and his slam was hilarious to see.  I'd be cool with Alex and Urien taking that spot though. Have they said where in the timeline this was going to take place in? Whatever they choose, I am pretty hyped for this! |

I can't recall if it was officially said by the staff themselves, but I'm 99% sure the game takes place after 4 and before 3.
So that makes things this timeline:
Alpha > 1 > 2 > 4 > 5 > 3
This doesn't rule many characters out. I suppose Gen might be dead now or something, but probably not lol.

Nobody can truly be killed off for real if Capcom was willing to bring M. Bison back from the dead using clone bodies or whatever. I am cautiously optimistic about SFV. I like the idea of only one version of the game and updates being free, but I'm at a "wait and see" attitude towards unlocking things through gameplay vs microtransactions. I'm also curious to see how unlocking everyone individually impacts the community. A lot of my friends and I do casual couch multiplayer and I find the idea of everyone picking and choosing individual characters to unlock annoying if people don't try to go after all the characters and everyone else hanging around can't access the characters they like. Also, Capcom should've called the currency to unlock stuff Bison Dollars. Missed opportunity there. |

I don't think you will have to worry too much about that inconvenience in offline multiplayer. The game after all will be played a lot in offline tournamnets, so there will definitely have to be a way to quickly unlock all of the characters.
And yes, they certainly do bring characters back. I did mean as more of a timeline compatability thing, though, as in it's plausible to have both most SF2 and SF3 characters because most all of them should still be/are active in that timeframe as fighters. Their age/established story would allow it. Those things can be changed, too, of course, but it'd still be really tough to work a character that's already young in SF3 into an Alpha-era game, for example.
I mentioned Gen specifically though because he's been dying from a terminal disease for years lol.

If it's between SF4 and SF3, some of the SF3 characters might not be eligible. (Necro probably hasn't been modified by Gill yet, and Twelve might not have even been created yet.)
I do like how future content can be earned via 'Fight Money' (in-game currency) and 'Zenny' (premium currency that requires real $ to get). I'll probably be getting everything through Fight Money, provided that the Fight Money is easily acquired. I'll not be happy if getting Fight Money specifically requires you to win online matches or something.

I think we are close to the beginnings of all the Illuminati goings-on re: Gill. Charlie does have that thing on his forehead and I'd be shocked if Urien wasn't one of the next few characters to be revealed. We actually don't know who the boss of this game will be yet...
I imagine Fight Money will be similar to how World Dollars are acquired in Xrd. You can get them (a lot of them) from just tutorials and story mode. They no doubt will be pushing the online multiplayer, but I doubt it will be necessary for anything but trophies, which aren't something I care about anyway lol.
I do have the beta. I just did some training mode briefly, though, the first time it went up. I didn't get around to going back in when it came back online for about a week or so...just wasn't as interested in that cast of characters. Rose is my SF character, but I could settle for Karin. I also like Guy and Yang.

Two new fighters were revealed yesterday! The first was Zangief! More about him and how he plays in SFV can be found here! The second was Laura - a Brazilian newcomer to the Street Fighter franchise. In actuality, screenshots of her were leaked from Famitsu's website. It was likely she was going to be formally announced as the Brasil Game Show next week (so no official trailer yet).  The screenshots have since been taken off Famitsu's website but they were saved and can be found here!

That leaked character list a while back even called this character by name. Still looking good for "Zen", Dhalsim, Alex and Urien. I wonder if Alex/Urien will be the first set of DLC characters...

She's Brazillian jiu jitsu with electricity, so nah. She won't be a Christie or Eddie Gordo (also glad about that).
edit: Oh, but as far as having a character for capoeira, yeah SF4 (as well as SF3) has Elena. SFxT has both her and Christie.

I think it's fairly likely that Juri comes back. Probably the most popular new character in IV.
The beta is going on again now! I haven't jumepd on yet, waiting until Karin is available. It's also too bad I can't use my PS3 controller yet, but they're working on adding that for the final game.
