I hope costume pieces aren't tied to character stats. It's frustrating when you get equipment you like but it has low defense/isn't practical to wear, or when you want to have high defense but don't like how the equipment looks. EDIT: crocodile, that's a great write-up! You could make it its own thread. I don't want pointless head gear either though. Cloaks were the same way in SOTN, they had different attributes. Didn't stop me from wearing a weaker one because it's cooler!

Yeah, but part of what made SOTN so special was that finding new stuff not only meant a visual change but also had unique attributes also. Like the blood cloak gives you hearts whenever you get hit. Details like that help make it important. It's not just some create a character mode where you can make unimportant visual changes.
It has importance AND has certain special things attached as well. It's not like lowering your defense slightly because of something you want to wear is gonna make the game impossible to play anyways. There's other equipment that will probably balance things out.
The more little details the better. Plus, i'm sure there will be something awesome that's got huge stat increases too. I get the need to have cool looking stuff that won't drop you down but more often than not the cooler stuff is more powerful or better anyways.

Either way, I'm not about to complain about something like this. Equipment ALWAYS effected stats except now we are getting equipment that changes your look. So why complain now? Beats putting something on and nothing looks visually different like every game after SOTN. ( i think ? )

I honestly think it's cool. What if the plague mask for instance resists against any monster that can give you a curse or poison you? Stuff like that makes these visual equipments cooler.

I think having an option to "hide" headgear or armor cosmetic changes would be nice. "I love the stats on this helm, but I love Miriam without a helmet!"

Idk about you peeps but getting cloaks that changed the look of Alucard was one of my favorite things. You know what would be better than that? Being able to change it any time you want in the menu without having to equip anything that would lower your stats.

I don't feel that way because the RPG elements of an IGAVANIA game is what I want most out of this game. I mean...isn't that why most people want IGAVANIA to return? It's not to make a non-igavania game.
This is perfectly in line with SOTN type details. I like finding equipment and seeing what it looks like on the character and seeing what features or benefits it might have. It's not like you get the coolest stuff in the beginning of the game. The leather shield is the first shield you FIND and it's the ugliest and least beneficial for instance. If you were to use it, it would bump your stats down but it's not like the game is impossible to play.
It's just kinda a moot point to complain about. We are getting a deeper experience, the deeper the experience the better.

I still hold out hope that there's someway to get cloaks in this game that will appear on your character. I miss cloaks.... and yes cloaks that give special abilities would be really cool. I loved how the blood cloak gives you hearts when hit for instance.

I heard WoW has an option where you can change the visual style of your armor but still keep its stats. Maybe Bloodstained could have something for that. Or maybe tie the stats to Miriam's crystals instead. You'd still be changing stats like in older Castlevania games, but things like strength, speed, and defense, could be tied to the crystals instead of things like hats or clothes.

If there's still RPG elements and extra details like in SOTN and the players have the ability to change Miriam's looks without effecting those stats, I honestly don't see what the problem is since you'd still be getting what you want and people like me would be getting what I want. You've played Terraria? In this game you can equip things on a visual inventory, and it shows in your character but doesn't give stats, you can also color items using different equipable inks. This way every single item can be used as an real equip, or instead you put it in the visual tab. For people that wants to be "naked" of equips, a special set exists that shows your character without armor. That sounds like a much better way of describing the thing I'm trying to describe. A visual inventory and a stats/practical armor inventory. That sounds like a good way to please everyone.

I wouldn't mind a visual option that doesn't change stats but IGAVANIAS are known for changing stats. I'm in this for his style of game. Either have an option to turn it off or tie in the stats.
