My previous statement was that I would get a physical PC version and digital console version. After much thinking, I think I'll change it around. All my PC games are digital and, although I'd like a physical copy for PC, it should be easier to simply receive a code for both the game and beta. Now to figure out whether I want the Steam or GOG version... As for the console version (will be PS4), since I already have some physical games, it will go along nicely with them. PC gamers, what would be best, Steam or GOG? With how both have their pro and cons, for now I picked for the Steam version because Steam can put a stable network on the downloading, because I will be back to my home country when the game is finished, where the internet is bad (still on quota) But if the GOG can put a stable network like Steam, I pretty much will change from Steam to GOG

Digital only. No money to get both and I don't want to wait 3+ months just to play the game.

I prefer it over GOG for the same reason Goobsausage does, so in the end it's up to you.

TL;DR: Physical
I don't normally care for Dics with 1s & 0s on them, but I really wanted the sword whip and the Disc was DRM-free for PC and I really wanted the sword whip and it was the same price for DRM-free digital, so I figured "why not?".
Believe it or not, PC/Mac/Linux is the only platform where you can get DRM-free games. Well, there's the Dreamcast Homebrew, but that's old and it makes it inconvenient to port indie games to it. (especially if you use off-the-shelf middleware like Unreal) I'd rather have a DRM-free Download than a Disc with 1s & 0s and included with said 1s & 0s is a key that tells the machine it runs on that it's an authorized game and said machine won't run unauthorized games meaning you can't make backups.

I don't claim to know much on the subject but a disc with 1s and os wouldn't really be a big deal since your disc would have to be lost/destroyed for the backup to be relevant right? Locked saves on the other hand are complete bull. It would be nice to be able to backup nintendo 3ds games though since the memory will eventually wear out and then you can't save. T_T

T_T Well, I don't trust any data that I can't backup. I fail to see the point of collections and I would rather have a printable archive. If you archive something, (especially from the source) you ensure it will exist for future generations. There are lots of films where the highest quality anybody can find is just a VHS rip because nobody can find the original film print that may or may not exist anymore. Had said film been backed up by making multiple copies on film or film scanners took direct scans of the original negative, it would exist in higher quality. I'd rather have the blueprints to the game though a DRM-free copy isn't a blueprint per se, but if you can make more copies, you can ensure it will be enjoined by future generations via an emulation layer like Wine or Dosbox of which gog sells games wrapped in both. People say digital is just an easily revocable license, but it's impossible to revoke a backed up DRM-free download (but they could legally revoke future digital purchases) and even more so whenever the copyright expires like with anything made before 1923, but now copyright lasts 95 years, so said media has to be archived for almost a century before shared without needing permission. :/ The reason why Castlevaina could have Vampires without being sued by Bram Stoker's estate was because Dracula's copyright expired. But look on the bright side, if Iga wants to make a game in 18 years into the future, he can put Batman in it without getting sued

But look on the bright side, if Iga wants to make a game in 18 years into the future, he can put Batman in it without getting sued I get what you are saying but from my point of view I think having a physical collection would be more accessable to future generations. Consoles won't upgrade themselves beyond the point of being able to run their own games but computers have and will continue to do so. I am aware there are ways to continue to run them but it would require the "future gamers" to put in a lot more effort and could limit accessability of games based on the amount of money that it could involve. I guess my biggest argument against your logic (I'm not actually against it, just running a "collection vs. data backup" sim in my head) is that the data backup can be done by a minumum of one person and if they share it online (ignoring the obvious pirating issue) then anyone else doing that would be essentially wasting their effort when they could enjoy the physical copy if they are so inclined. If the backups you are talking about are not for an online archive of sorts, then they would be much less accessible as a file hidden away no matter how many people have it on their computers. We of course live in a world where a ton of games will never be on pc and thus would require a lot of effort to backup, but companies (aside from Atlas apparently...) tend to print a proverbial @#@$ton of discs/cartridges so I don't think the future gen has anything to worry about. Enjoy the game however you like though, thats the most important part!

Well, my problem with Consoles is once they stop making a consoles, there won't be anymore. Look at the Sega Saturn. There were 9.5M of them and let's say 10M people want them so they can play Night Warriors, everybody can't have one and there are even less than 9.5 million because not everybody took care of their consoles, so there's a lot of them that have been destroyed. Especially since Night Warriors didn't sell that well and I doubt it even sold a million copies (of which was a lot back then) and there are even less of them now and even pressed games are venerable to bit rot. (the aluminium coating on a disc actually rusts) It gets worse with later consoles because let's pretend you have three dead xbox originals with different problems, one has a dead hard drive, one has a dead optical drive and the other has a dead board. Now, in theory, you could gut all three Xboxes and make two working Xbox and just have one broken Xbox... Umm, no. Sadly, the Optical Dives and the Hard Drives are keyed into the serial number of the board and the original Xbox won't work without a hard drive and seagate hard drives are also known for dying. The archival and accessibility of culture is a big issue for me and digital archives are very reliable because they backup, backup their backups and check their backups. It's true you need only one copy, but people serious about archiving data don't put all of their eggs in one basket and even archive it even if it's already been archived. There is a guy that worked at K-Mart from 1989 to 1993 and he uploaded the K-Mart PA Tapes. He was one guy and if his house caught on fire before he uploaded it, the tapes would of been destroyed. archive.org/details/attentionkmartshoppersI'm sorry If I come off as a bit preachy, ever since I played Fallout 3 and Scribe Yearling explained the significance of just one book, (even if it's a children's book) I've kinda been passionate about this.

I finally managed to upgrade my pledge to the physical, no DRM edition. If I decide to upgrade further, should be no problem hopefully.

I've chosen physical. While it is unfortunate that CD's wear over time I much prefer it over digital. A CD should last me much longer than I'll need it to and, if I intend to play it for more than a few years straight, I can buy one more disc for 5 - 20 US dollars. The option to let a friend try it out without hauling my entire set up to their house is also a definite plus.

I voted for physical although I'll be getting both types:
- Physical PS4 NA copy
- Physical Vita NA copy
- Digital Wii U JP copy
Curious to see if there will be any easily noticeable non-language differences between NA and JP versions!

Via the Kickstarter I'm getting a physical PS4 copy and a digital PC copy (primarily for beta access). If they end up doing platform-exclusive bonuses (and the game itself lives up to expectations) I may buy copies for the other systems at retail.

I pledged $100 and got the Alchemist's Treasure, choosing a physical GOG disc. I have a question and hope someone can help clarify. I'm a big emulation guy, never really got into PC games at all. I don't even own any (just Back To The Future on GOG). Also I have two PCs that I built, and neither of them have optical drives. GOG is a website, I don't get the physical disc part. I just assumed that if you chose GOG the game would just show up on your GOG.com account online. Is the physical disc required to install the game to your GOG account, making it show up online? Sorry if that's a silly questions
