im not denying the game needs optimization still, im simply saying these issues arent as cut and dry as many think

Over on ResetEra someone who claims he worked the Nintendo booth at PAX said the TVs weren’t optimized for reduced lag. He couldn’t confirm 100% the one and only reason the game felt laggy was because of the unoptimized TVs (read: not set to game mode) but he thought it could’ve contributed to that feeling. ....... People, this is something not to overlook. Improper hardware settings will break your gaming experience.

As a long time events or tournaments organizer, I'm going to put my two cents about this matter.
- Input lag: The input lag is clearly a setup issue. When you put a 55 inches TV and we don't know whether if the gaming mode is on or not, it would make sense for the game to not be responsive. The TV itself could be fine, but there are some settings that can butcher your gaming experience.. motionflow for example.
- Switch build is clearly not ready or optimized, FPS is only finalized once the game goes gold and Bloodstained is not even there yet. Games having bad performances on demos is not a new thing, let's take the E3 2016 demo for example; it had some performance issues on some strong PCs, but the 2018 build was just fine, if this was the PC version I would have been worried.
A way to test if the input delay issue is from the game or setup at gaming events is to press the Home/PS button and see if the menus are responsive or not, if yes.. then it could be the game build, if no then it's just the TV. I always do that with all demos I test during video game conferences or events

Something else to consider - I bet no one knows when the demo build was compiled. It's very possible that the demo wasn't based on the latest code. People need to understand that creating a demo can take significant time and effort, too. It's not as simple as just creating a demo with a flick of a switch based on the latest code base.

Assuming there isn't another delay. I personally wouldn't worry about a delay. Remember, Angel has said that the crappy build we saw running at PAX (where the TVs and stuff might have made it seem worse than it is, as Dengo said) was their very first. A lot of times, the very first draft or build of something, whether an essay or a software port, is the hardest to get down. But once you've got *something* in a working state, it provides the foundations for much swifter progress on the second and third drafts or builds, especially since in this case people at PAX could give specific suggestions for improvement(fps, sluggish movement, and input lag). So I think they should definitely be able to get a pristine Switch build running in under four months, especially with Wayforward's help.

At least from the one source that voiced their opinion today, it was a bit of a disappointment aesthetically and performance wise. Both of which I firmly believe the Switch should have no problem handling. It’s quite alarming as well given the fact Nintendo is far and away Bloodstained’s biggest audience. HOWEVER, the demo GXP tried out was not a press demo. Only a floor demo and I’m not particularly sure if there is any difference in builds at all that are released. Is the ramp up in graphics something that hasn’t been well optimized for the Switch yet? Is the Switch perhaps the dev team’s final priority after everything else is set in place for deadline’s sake? I have trust in the team to rectify the apparent flaws in the game if the build is indicative of the console port version performance overall. But information about it sure would be nice, if not just some connecting the dots with what little information can be grasped by attendees. We're aware of the issues that were evident on the Switch at PAX. Some of the problems were with the build we were running and some might have been with the hardware setup (but we can't confirm that). Optimization for the console versions is an ongoing process. The current build we are testing in the office already has improvements over the PAX version. We are committed to getting the Switch version to run and look great. Given the concern, I'll see if we can do some sort of switch-specific KS update to alleviate some of the worries.

Nintendo is far and away Bloodstained’s biggest audience Yea, I'm going to need a citation for that one. I'm sure it'll sell fine on Switch, but I would be shocked if it's anywhere near the top platform for number of sales.

I'm sure it'll sell fine on Switch, but I would be shocked if it's anywhere near the top platform for number of sales. I believe this is an extrapolation from Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, which sold over half of its distributed copies on the Switch:
"Inti Creates recently released a sales breakdown of Bloodstained: Curse Of The Moon and to the surprise of nobody, it sold the most units on Switch by a distant margin. Here’s the distribution:
Switch – 56%
Steam – 19%
PlayStation 4 – 17%
3DS – 4%
PlayStation Vita – 4%"
Impressive indeed! Given those numbers, many people think the Switch will be the primary engine for Ritual of the Night's growth as well. Maybe RotN, as the main game and a 3d platformer rather than a retro one, will end up more of a PC thing, but still, the common sentiment isn't entirely unfounded.

Not only that, see this: bloodstained.forums.net/post/63405For a few days iirc, #3 spot on best sellers for that system. It also took a high spot on backer's chosen console for RotN in a survey we did back in May, which is especially impressive considering it was not even a backing option until years after the campaign.

Damn, it beat out *Minecraft?* That's no small accomplishment. If the pre-orders are any indication, it's definitely a good idea for the team to put a lot of care and concern into the Switch build. Good thing they're already making progress on that front, judging by what Question said

The Switch is a juggernaut for Bloodstained, no doubt, but another thing of note is; Jesus H. Christ the friggin’ Vita with its measly 4% (a dead console that’s not even getting Ritual of the Night) managed to beat the Xbox One who was so low it’s not even on this chart from gunlord500. And that console is indeed getting RotN and, unlike Switch, was featured in the KS campaign from day one!

CotM sold more on Switch than all the other platforms combined, including PC. If that’s anything to go by, and it is, I don’t expect RotN to perform very differently.

Not quite, the reason that Xbox One isn't on the chart is because at that time it hadn't been released yet. That chart was put out the same day the X1 version of CotM was released. I can only guess at the numbers it would have (and yes, probably still lower than the rest).
