With the announcement of two more playable characters, and local co-op, I find my self wondering who they will be. And I'll be honest, I think one of them is gonna be Johannes.
Miriam seems to follow the same vein as Shanoa from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, in the aspect that her stained glass glyphs are reminiscent of Shanoa's Ecclesia Glyphs, which are meant to be an enhancement of the metroidvania style of Castlevania. The Multiple weapon and equipment styles seen in Symphony of the Night, the Sorrow era, Portrait of Ruin, and so forth.
I Believe Johannas will be the games Belmont character. His artwork already depicts him with a whip, and is known to be an Alchemist just not one who delved into the devils power, leaving him safe from the Crystal Curse. So in that vein, he will likely play as the classic Belmont characters. He has access to armor and accessory slots, and possibly different whip type, like Jonathan from Portrait of Ruin. And will probably have access to Bloodstains own variation of classic Castlevania items; the axe, the dagger, the cross and such. However due to his age and experience, he would be more like Julius Belmont in terms of ability and power.
As for the other new playable character, personally I'm hoping its someone we don't know of yet. I always enjoy being surprised by these sorts of thigns, and I think a character with a play style akin to like, Maria Renard from Castlevania, would be awesome. Or maybe a character similar to Cornell, Grant, or Henry would be cool.
Personally, I'm against the idea of it being Gebel, if only because having the same curse placed on him as Miriam, it feels like hed just play like her, but with different weapon designs. Like a glorified alternate costume. And you know, even if he isnt chosen to be the 3rd playable character to wander the castle like Miriam, we'd still get to play as him via the Boss Revenge Mode, with all his attacks as a boss fight, which I think would be much funner than a version of him with dummed down attacks to allow him to maneuver the castle like Miriam can.

The second playable character I do believe will be Johannes. I think they've all but stated the fact up until now.
I don't think Johannes will be very Belmont-ish. Miriam after all is also getting a whip. I think Johannes' gameplay will focus much more on his Alchemy, using various monsters parts in order to deal magical attacks.
As for the THIRD playable character, I think that will be Gebel. It's told that a second pixel game is on the funding event horizon to be included, and I think Gebel will be the main attraction in that, as well as playable in the full game, but without cutscenes.

I just figure since Johannas has a whip on his full body artwork, and Koji Igarashi has implied that he uses it, I'm sure it will be his primary weapon as a playable character. and what do you mean Third playable character? When was that announced?

This is true, but past kickstarters have had a huge spike in the last 5 days. I think it's possible for us to reach 5 million... possible at best honestly. They could surprise us though. We're probably going to hit 4.5 million, though.

Man, I REALLY hope one of the three "main" playable characters is Gebel. Just because I wanna see different equippable capes on him. If he's not, oh well. He's probably a "boss revenge" character, but I'd really like to be able to go through the entirety of the main story and Classic mode with him.

Johannesburg & a mystery character that will be revealed in the story. I hope team IGA make it a challenge to unlock the 2nd & 3rd characters. Rather than simply completing the game...throw in a certain side quest or base it off of choices you make/paths you take while playing.

Who the two other additional playable characters are will likely have a lot to do with what IGA wants to do with the narrative/scenario. Given from his comments, it seems he wants the other playable characters to really fit into the plot (i.e. it makes total sense that this character would be playable) and not just be a random throw in. So closer to say Julius Mode in Dawn of Sorrow than say Richter Mode in Symphony of the Night or Portrait of Ruin. An interesting idea/possibility that came into my mind was to allow for backer voting for slots 2 & 3. In such a scenario I envision one vote might be for choosing between Johannes and Gebel and then another vote between 2+ characters we haven't been introduced to yet. All that being said, putting this choice in the hand of backers can have a somewhat limiting effect on the type of narrative IGA may want to write (has to wait for the voter choice to conclude and defer to their choice). It's a much bigger decision than the Familiar vote. It's all a balancing act of when to let backers have a choice and when to take the reigns and make sure his vision perseveres (avoiding the "too man cooks in the kitchen" problem, etc.) and make the game can be the best product it can be. I'm sure IGA is experienced enough when to use one option over the other though

Since Johannes will most likely be the alchemist that helps Miriam by assisting her in crafting special items...that's the part where I'm doubting Johannes will be playable.
Both the 2nd & 3rd characters are likely to be new ones we've yet to hear of, but I am prepared for the possibility of being wrong. Maybe Johannes will be playable after all.
...I certainly still don't think Gebel will be playable, though. _ghost

Backtracking never really got old for me in DoS, due to the convenience of Warp Rooms. That's probably just me, though. I would love being able to craft on-the-go with Johannes' help! Kinda like how you could craft new weapons in Curse of Darkness.

True..as long as the crafting aspect is enjoyable and doesn't feel like a chore then I will be good!! Curse was fun...I liked that crafted katana that created Japanese words upon attacking.. The Muramasa? I love that weapon too. It's also one of the potentially strongest weapons in Symphony of the Night. (Edit): This isn't the right thread for it, but I'd definitely want to see that weapon in Bloodstained too.
