More than one time I felt like it would be REEEEEEEALLY good to have a secondary weapon set up so I could alternate between them to it without having to enter the equipment menu. And there are lots of unused buttons in the controller that could be used to that. It would be REALLY nice to be able to switch between say, a gun and a melee weapon, a heavy and a light one, without the cumbersome task of entering menu (interrupting the game flow) to choose it. This would really enhance the game experience and make the game even more dynamic what you guys thnk?

I second this motion.
It would add a lot to the gameplay, making it both more varied and more fluid.

I want the return of the Dopplegenger Soul function from Dawn of Sorrow, since this game borrows so heavily from it.
At the press of a button it let you swapped both your weapon and shards. It was extremely helpful and did improve game flow quite a bit.
The main concern is what button would it be? LT? I'm trying to remember if B does anything.

LB is mapped to the backstep (I remapped it to LT tho because I feel much more comfortable pushing the Ts than the Bs)
There's nothing currently mapped to LT or B/circle now AFAIK.

This is probably the most important feedback I could give for the demo. Please keep this post going!
I'm a fan of proper mechanics that keep the player out of the menu as much as possible. An ability to swap between two weapons would be the highest priority and could go a long way in that regard. I understand changing shards would still be limited to the menus, but having a variety in available weapons would greatly improve the game-play. I tend to stick with the heavy claymore for more damage, but would like to equip an alternate knife/sword/whip in order to deal with faster enemies such as the bats.
But also, implementing a quick function system for using health, items, equipping weapons, etc would also be ideal. It pulls me out of the game to have to go to the menu to heal or eat food during a boss fight. Other than these two items, I thought the demo was fantastic, and playing it removed any doubts I might of had. I can't wait to get back home and play through it again!

The B button isn't assigned to anything by default. I actually set it for the backstep ability. I tried a variety of the shoulder buttons and triggers, but none of them felt right to me. The B button was the way to go!

I would be very surprised if this game doesn't end up with a Doppleganger shard.

Agreed. This functionality really should be there from the start of the game.

I'm finding myself indifferent on a lot of matters with this game. With the ability to use directional shards, I don't think we need weapon sets. Sure it can save menu time for players who want diversity and choice but I don't believe it'll be easy to find yourself in a situation where you're not properly equipped.
Edit: the more I think about it the more I'd enjoy weapon swapping

I need to be able to put a second weapon, gun, shield on b/circle.
I'm hoping to find something that allows her to be capable of using her off hand. It doesn't make sense for her to put away a rapier to draw a pistol.

I do not think this should be tied to shards. It's too essential. If it's not base we are going to end up with a shard slot that is never used for anything else.

doppelganger shard would be a white shard which took the place of relics when iga moved to the soul system, theyre either always on or you go into a menu to turn them off, i believe you even see one when they did the internal demo with the doublejump. found it

Woah, I've never seen this footage before. Double jump shard and drop kicks and some of these enemies, this is all new to me. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting enough! But a QOL feature like that would be best as a normal feature of the game you could access from the start, no? Also, it seems to me, from a game design standpoint, that white shards are meant to be for those traversing abilities that open up the map and enable you to advance in the game... no?

Also, it seems to me, from a game design standpoint, that white shards are meant to be for those traversing abilities that open up the map and enable you to advance in the game... no? Not necessarily. Particularly with new players. You don't want to dump a ton of mechanics on them right from the start of the game, it's often better to introduce them over time. Hence why most of the Igavanias delivered out mechanics through relics. Not just traversal ones, but things like the Dopplegenger soul in Dawn of Sorrow, the teammate abilities in Portrait of Ruin (switching characters, calling your character out, ordering them to stay in place, using them to help you push objects, summoning them to quickly use their subweapon, and using dual attacks were all mechanics given one at a time to the player through relics, despite most of them not being traversal based), heck, even SotN locked enemy names, damage numbers, and the ability to obtain items from candles behind relics. It should come early on in the game, but not necessarily open from the start. The less the game has to teach you all at once, the better the flow of the game tbh. Either way, when we say "we want the Dopplegenger shard", we're just saying we want a mechanic that works similarly to the Dopplegenger soul, not that it needs to be obtained the same way.

I just created my account to make this exact same thread suggestion! I can already feel certain enemies with weaknesses to different weapons and having the ability to swap between two of them on the fly would improve my experience immensely!

I agree with this motion. I had the same thought myself while playing. But also, I'd like this for the Shards in some capacity. Maybe through clicking the right or left stick? Honestly, I haven't thought much about how it would be implemented yet, but the ability to call up a real-time menu wheel like in Lament of Innocence and just rotate into the Shard you want would be acceptable (and real helpful) too. I think they're doing something like this in the upcoming Mega Man 11, and Skyward Sword also had something like this.
