Good week for me generally. Here's what I've been up too ;D

I also went and saw the new Jake Gyllenhaal space horror movie, "Life." Urgh...the production values were high and the acting was good, but IMO all in all, it was still mediocre. No spoilers, but the movie more or less covered the same story beats we all already saw in Alien, except the monster is dumber looking and far less distinctive. It's not a waste of money, but it's pretty forgettable. Ah, well...

Earlier this week, I managed to secure a ticket to see Ghost in the Shell later tonight at 9:45 PM.

Can't wait to see it! I'll be sure to tell all of you my impressions of the movie when I get back (or early tomorrow morning if I'm too tired by then).

Well, I said I was going to give my impressions of the Ghost in the Shell movie either on Thursday night when I got back, or the next morning, but here I am now (having completely forgotten about fulfilling my promise until seeing this thread at the top of my Bookmarks).

Some of what I have to say is pretty much the same as gunlord500 . It was a better movie than even I was expecting (though I still expected it to be good).

I thought the soundtrack of the movie was forgettable (as I can't remember a single point in the movie where music even played), but the rest of it I thought was rather impressive for a first-time attempt at an American live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. I didn't walk into the theater expecting it to be a completely-"faithful" adaptation, because I already found out beforehand from interviews that they changed certain minor elements of the story (to be fair, anime adaptations of GitS were never completely faithful to the original manga either).

As for the acting: I felt that the only good actors in the entire movie were ScarJo herself, good ol' "Beat" Takeshi Kitano, Pilou Asbæk (Batou in the movie; Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones), Michael Pitt, and Kaori Momoi (played the Major's mother).

To this day, I still can't get Pilou Asbæk's name right. I have a habit of pronouncing it "Pillow Ass-Beak".


I do have a few more minor gripes about the movie (such as how out-of-focus it got in certain scenes), but it didn't disappoint me.



(EDIT):  I originally wanted to say "[not really] American" in the 3rd paragraph because of Go Fish Pictures, a former division of Dreamworks that previously worked on a script for a live-action Ghost in the Shell movie.


I guess this counts as my obligatory "April Fools' Day" post?

Today I'm going to a meet-and-greet for a politician who's running for the U.S. Senate against an incumbent politician I don't like. The location is a German beer hall, and if you follow politics or world history, that is... probably not the best place to hold a political rally. But at least I can order a beer if things end up going south!

I'm following that up by going to a comedy show, which I feel is highly appropriate for April Fool's day.

Had the day off. I was shopping for things I needed and picking up some fun stuff I wanted, but got sick to my stomach by the time I arrived at my first store. That whole experience was not fun.

I'm also years behind everyone else, but I got my hands on a copy of the first Nier game. Looking forward to playing it.

They changed my schedule at work from 7am-3pm for all 5 days to 630am-3pm for 4 out of the 5 days with the 5th day(your Friday) being 630am-1230 pm.

When I had my first weekend, it felt long and I got a ton of sleep. I was in and out of sleep after work and my first day off.

Today was my Monday and while I did feel refreshed, I was tired afterward. Thankfully my mom and I went to get some ramen at a place called "Jinya". Overall, it's great though the portions could be better. I had the Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen. Good dinner...but I ended up paying 50 bucks for it. :S
