Since we're unfortunately talking about this nonsense again, please read the discussion that starts on it on page 3 in this thread, Angel's official responses about it not being "censorship" and the discourse that followed. Sorry, meant the survey thread here: bloodstainedfanforums.com/thread/2987/bloodstained-feedback-survey-live?page=3Understandably, I was getting deja vu. Angel's position is definitely not PR. He's in charge of making decisions for products of the game and its publishing and marketing - including having meetings with Iga on a regular basis. The 505 PR department is completely separate.

I mean, Overlord it depends on why people don't like it. If the breasts were reduced simply to appease some Puritans (on either side of the political spectrum), then yes, that's censorship, in the sense that the game's overall vision would be altered for external factors. However, if the breasts were reduced because IGA thought they looked garish, that's not censorship because the change is enhancing his personal vision for the game. And the latter seems to be the case in reality, as the original breasts looked like weird bags of water rather than anything especially attractive (in any sense). So I don't think we have a case of censorship. But anyways, that's all water (heh) under the bridge now, let's focus on the update itself. Concerning exclusive content, nothing has been set in stone yet. Angel-Corlux and the rest of the team are still discussing and coordinating on what should be done, if anything at all, after trying to gauge the community's responses. There are so many things they could do, because the spectrum of "leaving backer exclusives as is" to "making it available to all" is a very wide one. The choices in the survey are some popular possibilities but not even all the possibilities, they may come up with a really cool idea later on. So for now let's give them the benefit of the doubt before getting heated one way or the other. Now, as for some other concerns: Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer that the demo is only available on Steam, but let's remember that the first demo was the same way. So in this case, DICO and Artplay have been up front with what we could expect and will deliver the final game on GoG, most likely. It's not like what Inti did, waiting until the last moment to tell us they didn't do GoG, and then messing up with the release codes later on. It seems to me that the RotN demo is already being handled much better and with clearer communication and expectations. As for costumes: One thing to note is that we don't know how the story will play out. For all we know maybe Miriam will be overtaken by the Crystal Curse at some point in the game. So we can hold off on that costume until we know how things go in the actual game ;D

So big boobs that are exposed that become smaller boobs that are exposed is censorship? Still not making sense, sorry. Especially if you have to make the claim in the face of everything the developers are saying. But I think I'm gonna tap out of this convo and let what the people above me say say everything.
I think your terrible analogy said enough anyway Hey, a terrible analogy for a terrible argument.

Neither does claming making a monsters boobs smaller is censorship. Actually, that does make sense. Covering/changing/removing something, especially if it's sexual in nature, because some people don't like it is generally considered censoring. It highly depends on the context, I take Vepar 10x more seriously after the changes, it looks like a menacing gothic monster now and not like a cartoonish out of place fantasy now. I hated her first iteration not because I'm against them showing the breasts but because it looked goofy and out of place. If you make changes so your character fit more into your universe then why would it be considered censorship?

I was referring more to "brand manager" Roberto, but on the topic of Angel, Angel posts here on a forum with the community and also moderates on the subreddit. In a sense having a relationship with the public. And call me cynical but after the delayed codes and that only being communicated a day before release, I don't trust much of anything. Admitting that the change was influenced by the idea of it being offensive or vulgar wouldn't look good to backers. And yes, I know the delay was more an Inti Creates issue and they have nothing to do with the base game now.

Olrox I see absolutely nothing in the change that equates to "looking more gothic" other than toning the colors down.
Also, I find it a bit funny that you find either design menacing as she's essentially nothing more than a very large nude woman with tentacles and what looks like a jack-o-lantern for a stomach. The most intimidating / menacing thing about her to me is her size and pretty much nothing else. The monster screech coming out of a humanoid monster is also kind goofy. I'd find it more menacing to actually just be fighting a giant squid or something. I mean, I can't say I even know what Vepar is suppose to be based off of.
Now those enemies with the large circular blades that are chained to the wall I saw in a clip recently. Those look like menacing gothic monsters.

If you make changes so your character fit more into your universe then why would it be considered censorship? That's certainly correct, but ultimately we don't know the reasoning behind the change. Personally, I agree with you, gunlord. I even referred to them as "water sacs" after we initially saw the character. But what I do know is that IGA was confident enough to release the character in that state, and there certainly were people on this very forum complaining that they were "too big". So I couldn't just dismiss the notion of censorship either.

You are entitled to your opinion on what looks menacing and not, as I am to mine. My whole point was just that it isn't cencorship when you realize that your design would fit your vision more even if it is less sexual in nature.

I'm about 2 hours late to this most recent of conversations in this thread when I was going to initially post, but here's what I was going to say anyway: Cranium Vepar's a demon, and he evidently has "magi-crystal" shards embedded in his body, so I'd think that to be an easy explanation for the glowing. They were just playing around with the shader to achieve that new effect on Vepar's body. I don't think the "wetness" was actually meant to look natural. And yes, quick reminder again: Vepar is male. As are the vast majority of Ars Goetia demons (even the ones that appear to be female).

All right, man, I have to say I'm kind of puzzled.
Where's the censorship.
Vepar went from a... I'm not really good at scale calculations but let's say a 124JJJJJ to a more modest 84DDDD. They're still boobs. They're still flapping and bouncing free. What's censored.
Because that's like saying that if you have two women going outside in public with their shirts off, the one with smaller boobs won't be citated. Is it that bigger boobs are somehow sexier and smaller boobs don't matter? That's the only way that argument makes sense.
Furthermore! From the people themselves in the Youtube comments because, obviously, somebody else chimed in about it:
"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Highlighted reply Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night 2 months ago (edited) @...well, everyone Whenever you see comments from us on our online platforms it comes (usually) from me, I'm Roberto Piraino, (Angel-Corlux) the brand manager at 505 Games responsible for publishing Bloodstained. I can personally guarantee everyone that both with the marketing/publishing (my domain) or the design of the game (Iga's domain) there is not a single decision that is made in order to pander to anyone with any kind of agenda. Whether it's social, religious, political or any kind of other activism or ideology, we avoid all of it like the plague. And consequentially, we're pretty deaf to any feedback that comes as a result of those/any agendas. The only thing guiding IGA is making Bloodstained the biggest, funnest, best looking game he's ever made, as HE envisions it. There are times when he brings stuff to me and is like "will we get in trouble for this?" and I'm just like "haha I don't care, I'll fight whoever, wherever to defend your artistic choices, you make your masterpiece". Now obviously that's within reason, and there are limits of course, but there hasn't been a single time where I even considered telling Iga "hey can we change/tone down x,y,z?", mostly because Iga doesn't work in the "extremes" of the artistic spectrum when it comes to things like violence or sexuality. Finally, specifically here with Vepar, there were a few major goals driving the rework effort, and some of them included things like making her look more menacing, more gothic/demonic (also due to fan feedback), as well as making her more attractive/seductive since her monster philosophy includes an element of functioning as a siren to lure sailors to their deaths. And making her more seductive also meant some changes to her face, it's much more detailed and realistic now if you take a good look. Obviously "more attractive" is always going to be subjective to the eye of the beholder (or in this case game creator) and at least personally I believe that there are tons of looks, archetypes and ways to be beautiful and attractive, but that's just a little context to assuage any concerns from anyone who thinks we're ever making any decisions based on external pressures related to any kind of agenda. "
So. Either they're lying to your face or you *just* might be acting a bit irrationally here.
I wasn't lying! Promise! The only part that's out of date is where at the start I say all online communication comes from me, now that we have an awesome community manager (Question) he's taken point. I don’t see the problem with the original design either. Why was it altered? As far as I remember most people liked it or where at least neutral to it. The new design doesn’t even look menacing nor mythical it just looks plain and boring. How can I trust that the rest of the game won’t suffer the same fate? How can I trust the rest of the designs throughout the game won’t be butchered and generalized? What about other female demons or vampire designs? Will there even been small amounts of gore and nudity like previous Castlevanias? These small elements are also part of Gothic art and horror. I ecstatically supported this Kickstarter for a spiritual successor to good old Castlevania. I supported this game for the creativity IGA brought to gaming and the creativity Japanese developers have brought to the industry. A great breath of fresh air and a great source of over the top entertainment. This redesign, specially for a boss, doesn’t fit those previously established expectations. Also what if it’s not external but people internally trying to pass of their own agendas? As a worried fan and backer I would greatly appreciate an answer.

crimsonx4I mean...I respect your opinion and my intent is not to be combative, but most people I've spoken to--all male, BTW, and none of them are "SJWs" or whatever--thought Vepar initially looked ridiculous. Most folks thought the lighting and such would be improved in future demos (and they were right), but they thought Vepar looked goofy and not at all intimidating--one fellow thought she was a bright blue neon goofy thing that came from a cartoon. On the other hand, her new color scheme is darker and less garish, her eyes are glowing red instead of flat and orange, and her breasts actually have nipples now. Again, not to bring this to an NSFW line of thought, but a lot of folks consider realistically-shaped breasts with nipples to be more genuinely Gothic (or, let's be honest, just attractive) than larger, featureless ones. I guess we'll have to see. But just between us, given the catgirl enemies in CotM I think there'll be enough T&A in RotN to satisfy us, even if Vepar got a little "reduction" XD Again, it depends. In the U.S they had to tone down the nudity for the CV games, like covering up some statues in CV4. I hope US ratings won't force IGA to do that, but he might not have a choice much like Konami didn't have a choice. We'll see, though, maybe the ratings agencies are cooler nowadays. But as for gore, I think we'll have plenty of that. Miriam exploded into blood when she died in the demo footage, just like Alucard, so I think there'll be enough gothic blood to satisfy us old-school fans at least

We literally have a boss that's a naked vampire chick who wears dresses made of her own blood and gets progressively more undressed the more she attacks.
That's all I'm going to say about the subject because I remember spending way too much time and energy on the discussion some time ago. IMO in this particular situation it's complete nonsense, but that's just how I see the matter.

Bloodlines wasn’t censored thankfully, well only in Europe. Everything after SotN wasn’t censored either. To be honest I don’t think SotN was censored either... I only think it was the Succubus profile pic on the manual. As for Veparr I didn’t know. Most of the reactions I saw on YouTube and a couple of other gaming sites where pretty positive. The colors and overall look gave of old school Castlevania giant boss vibes. It was ridiculous but in a good way, plus the colors helped it stand out and not blend in with the scenery. Sort of like most Harmony of Dissonance bosses. We literally have a boss that's a naked vampire chick who wears dresses made of her own blood and gets progressively more undressed the more she attacks. The key thing is how do we know that content like that won’t get cut out? How can we trust that the rest of the game won’t be butchered and become generic in the process? Is there any bias in the feedback they receive? What if people like something just for it to be changed by a small vocal minority? What type of assurance do I or any other backer have in this? Because I would want my money back if there is that sort of foul play behind the scenes. I would appreciate if Angel-Corlux-Corlux would reply to my previous post on the matter.

Ok, maybe IGA suddenly woke up one morning and decided to reduce the breasts of the Vepar, or that may be because the development team does not want to receive bad reviews by some American sector of people who feel offended by anything with a little of sexual tone. I, personally, believe in the most realistic option. It's clear that this conversation does not lead anywhere. I 've read many anti vs pro censorship discussions and it's always the same. Those who defend it make thousand of excuses to show that there is no censorship and those who hate it feel annoyed because they think they're being deceived. So we agree to disagree. In short, I repeat my request: please add a censorship selector in the game. So everyone will be happy. Hey Taburisu, I appreciate your candor to my responses and your opinions, really do. All I can tell you is what I know to be the truth, being so closely involved with the project. While there were certain people that complained about Vepar's breasts because "omg boobs offensive etc etc." I can personally guarantee you that being offended has absolutely zero weight in any decision we make for the game. (within reason ofc)
Let me point out that Vepar is still bare chested, several leading ladies in the game are extremely attractive and well endowed, and there are several elements in the game that revolve around sexuality or being provocative, whether we're talking about monsters, situations, characters etc. (The vast majority of the game hasn't been revealed so I know that's hard to quantify right now). If we were really making changes to appease any sort of external agenda or people being offended at content that included elements of sexuality, then you'd be seeing much more drastic visible changes to the game than just a slight reduction of Vepar's breasts from super huge to "only" huge. (I think it's technically DD down from F or something IIRC)
Now the changes to Vepar were definitely partly inspired by the feedback gathered from fans, but just like with anything, Iga decides if to take action on feedback, and if so, what the change will be, no one else. And to give you even further insight, when the changes were made there was the discussion internally whether we were crossing a line and people may be offended because the breasts now look more perky and detailed, while still remaining huge, and to that concern I was immediately like "lol no I don't care, if this what you believe / want the most, then you do what you want and I will be the 200 foot tall titanium wall that blocks anyone demanding changes because of external/personal agendas".
I also understand your request for a "censorship toggle" option, and to be totally honest making such an option would be a huge pain and bad use of resources for a LOT of reasons, but above all else it wouldn't make any sense, let me tell you why: Iga says ok and asks me what differences are going to be toggled when selecting this option, so then I include the following:
- Vepar original breasts - ..... - uhm -......
Haha you see what I mean? There would be nothing to put into such an option because there's nothing in the game being censored. Technically the only other thing is how much skin is initially revealed by Bloodless when she's getting out of the tub, but that's only for Chinese versions of the game because China has different standards for certain ratings.
Anyway, hopefully this all makes sense, and you can trust what I'm saying, hopefully you know my mantra by now ("I won't always be able to talk about something, but whatever I do say will be the truth")
And last but not least, I'm going to try and walk the tightrope here (speak personally while remaining professional) and say that as a fan of countless other games, some where sexuality was a prominent pillar of the fandom, I've suffered first hand when games I love get manipulated by external agendas and personal social / political / religious opinions of staff involved with the game/project who feel it's ok to use the project they work on as their own personal megaphone for activism.
Every time I've seen it happen, in the far past and very recently, it made me vow that if I ever was in that position I would never do that, and lo and behold fate has been kind to me and now I have the power to make sure that's the case. Hope that helps clear up some of your concerns, but please always feel free to be honest and bring critiques and complaints to me/us, I want to hear it all, because I want to face it openly and head on, treating you and everyone else like adults with a brain instead of like wallets with switches I need to flip. (whether we end up making you happy or not) Crimson, Angel-Corlux had been through this exact thing before. Please read the above quote which is giving you what you're looking for. The benefit of having this forum format is so that we don't have to repeat what we have said like in a chat room. My perspective on this includes looking at Bloodless and knowing censorship isn't a factor. She is naked in a tub of blood when you find her. It's an animated cut scene too. She makes her clothes and umbrella out if blood then proceeds to shower Miriam in a torrent of blood. As you weaken Bloodless her clothes cover less and less of her body. Then her shard impales a screaming Miriam. Don't get too caught up on minor changes. You don't have to like IGA's changes, but telling him what you want over what he decides on is just as bad as what you are concerned about. There is so much more to this game and this community than this topic, man. Have fun with us in celebrating IGA's return to making real games that Konami wouldn't. Make the best of it.

I think much of the interaction across the bloodstained community is precisely about voicing opinions, even as we, speaking as individuals, are less than a small minority. If we wanted the pure IGA/dev team experience we'd shut up and never suggest anything, have no feedback survey etc. But I personally think community feedback is a tool that can be used to improve a game. To me, similarly to what XombieMike says, campaigning against this change is like campaigning for it. Both hope to sway the devs to make a specific choice according to one's own ideas. My personal opinion is twofold: I'm skeptical about oversexualising female (looking) characters more than male characters*, and I think the earlier design seemed to intentionally draw heavy attention to her breasts - but even throwing that aspect out the window I simply visually like the new look better. To me the earlier design looked more cartoonish, and I had difficulty taking the boss seriously. It was almost silly. Of course that's just my personal opinion, just like the personal opinion that the change was for the worse. If they'd kept the earlier design (or go back to it now) I would accept it, it's their choice after all. I wouldn't start making threats like this one: [...] I’m going to make them regret it. * Though as Galamoth says she's really apparently a man / "he", but visually the demon is made to look feminine.
