Update #55 Get to Know the Japanese Voice Actors

also, another point people may not realize with this reveal is this means iga has the story pretty much finalized, the bosses and cutscenes are in a state of done enough that voice actors can be brought in to voice lines, they have johnathan joestar, sir integra fairbrook wingates fucking hellsing, sailor jupiter, chad, and several that i dont know but their voices sound goooood, they arent pulling any punches on quality even in the voice dept (now to hope the localization team can pull similar quality beyond hayter and belgrade when their turn comes), and any boss arena and accompanying area is done enough to start marrying battle sounds and triggers, so dont scoff at its face value, theres a lot to be gleaned on where the game is in development

Wooo the update! I was really excited when Ami Koshimizu was on board with us because I suggested her to the team way back when we were actively talking about voice actors on the forums. Every Japanese cast was enjoyable to work with and they all did a really great job.

We also promised AskCurry answers so we're going to get those ready asap. He's just been REALLY busy with the production so we haven't had the chance to wrap it up.

There will be more updates to come - whether that comes in a form of a Kickstarter update, events, articles, or the community broadcast. I'll be lurking around the forums every day but most of the replies may come from Angel-Corlux. He also informs me if I missed out on anything while I work more closely with the production.

I'd honestly be shocked if Dual Audio options weren't present. It'd be absolutely cruel for them to hype up this update to English speaking communities like this forum and the Discord only for it to be about something that had literally no relevance to us.

I'm glad I'm not the only one disappointed about the update, because honestly I was feeling really guilty about it. With the build up from Angel and even riddles regarding its coming release, the lack of updates in so long, the rumors of the Alpha, the E3 demo we never got our hands on... it all seemed to all point to something really juicy and, especially as someone who cares little to nothing about Japanese seiyus, it really felt like there was no payoff. And not knowing when the next update might be I think makes it all the harder. If it was just something like "oh but we're getting another update next week (or even month) anyway" then I think it wouldn't hurt nearly as badly.

Regardless though, after gunlord's comment earlier I can easily see why they'd have chosen this route, if it really does mean that much to people outside of the Iga-fandom. I'm totally cool with it and it's not like I'm mad at anyone for it being this way, but yeah just on a personal note it is a bit disappointing. In my starved trek across the desert, it appears the oasis I thought I saw was in fact a mirage T.T

EDIT: There's also the fact that Angel described the coming update as "not an oasis but a massive ocean." The hype factor really wasn't all on us here.

'Kay.. now I'm hoping for equippable scissor blades to make it in into the game, somehow. XD

My two cents about the update:

Damn, they are mostly great choices, as far as a anime-fan like me knows. 
Ami Koshimizu (Miriam) is a real talent, considering her roles, she is capable of making a wide array of different voices. I can guess she will be a "softer" version of Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill, since Miriam does have a strong determination but it isn't as crazy as Ryuko, as far as we know.
Shusaku Shirakawa (Gebel) is a nice surprise. THe only role of his that i know of is Lawrence from Izetta and he has a really deep voice, that totally matches Gebel.
Kazuyuki Okitsu (Johannes) is a very typical hero voice, considering the role i know (Jonathan Joeastar from Jojo).
Kaori Mizuhashi (Dominique) is one of the few i don't know, but by doing a small research on her, i can see most of her roles are the typical "Sweet girls" of animes and Dominique kinda stands out like that too, considering her visuals.

Ryotaro Okiayu (the Mysterious man) is Alucard's japanese voice. A deep voice that makes me think the Mysterious man may be ALucard's expy from Bloodstained.

Taiten Kusunoki (Alfred) is another man of deep voice, that usually plays older characters.

Hiroki Yasumoto (Zangetsu) has a really "sexy seductive voice" for people out there, and he is also a singer.

The only roles i know of Saori Goto is from Shokugeki no Soma (Nao) and Senran Kagura (Mirai). Both characters are quite crazy-ass ones. If Gremori will have the same tone, that would be wicked.

Akari Kito (Anne), seems to plays cute and sweet characters, perfect match for a child.

I believe that the update does seem focused on a more specific public, yes. But i also think that considering the time now, they don't want to reveal too much about the game. We have, most probably, less than one year for the game to have it's official lauch. Revealing assets and such now could be too spoilerific. I remember IGA saying that one of the disavantages of Kickstarter is that, by the need of feeding backers with regular updates, you start to lack material to do a proper marketing campaign about the game later on to hype people up into buying your product.
I believe most updates will be like this now, because they want to keep the goods sealed in before the game's lauch.

I don't think that point is missed at all. We could assume that was already the case because of alpha talk, because of the game coming out early next year. It's easy for people to be excited about this update when you follow this kind of stuff, but for those of us who don't the update was essentially character portraits. We saw the IGA business card with teases on it so naturally people might think the next update might feature some content or features in the game. We sent questions to Curry (which Mana clarified now he's been very busy which is completely understandable)....the mention of a potential alpha in a couple interviews... There's a lot OUT there that people might think....oh the update is taking a while so maybe it'll show some of this stuff. In the end it turns out to be about one specific thing focused on a specific group of people who are into that sort of thing. *  So it's reasonable not unreasonable to be disappointed. 

I guess my point is - Let people get their mehs out so they can be normal again. No sense arguing why they are wrong to feel the way they do. It's easy for people to say that when they DO follow Japanese voice actors. As long as people are being respectful about it.

I guess the important thing is the assurance that development is going well. I know what you're saying, in that not everybody is interested in the JPN voices, but on the other hand, since everyone is keenly interested in how the game as a whole is going, it is a relief that they're doing voices of any sort, since that means assets and stuff have been completed. So while we wait for a hopefully meatier new update, what we have now is just to maintain our faith in IGA and assure us that we won't have to worry about another delay, or incompletion, or whatever.
