Well, the MN9 delay announcement has officially hit (through Kickstarter updates, see the update here). Apparently they will make an announcement at Gamescon as well.

Oh, and according to the emails in my inbox, apparently they mistakenly put the MN9 update first on the Red Ash Indelible Legend update page.
Whooooooooooooooooooooops!

Man, it's a good thing that they didn't announce this during the RA KS...

Man, it's a good thing that they didn't announce this during the RA KS... That was probably on purpose. They even denied it during the Red Ash campaign, lol. Folks were reporting how on the official forums for the game, mods were debunking the delay reports, it was an error on Amazon that caused a ripple effect, etc. Not so, apparently: the game is actually delayed. Those comments...wow. I read maybe the first 20-30 and none of them were feeling positive about any of this. "Delays are temporary - mediocrity is forever"? Damn.

Um.... I think that quote (mediocrity is forever) is actually a positive statement? It's a paraphrase of a Miyamoto quote, who said something like, "a delayed game can eventually be good, but a rushed game is bad forever."

Good job Inafune.

Um.... I think that quote (mediocrity is forever) is actually a positive statement? It's a paraphrase of a Miyamoto quote, who said something like, "a delayed game can eventually be good, but a rushed game is bad forever." It could be taken that way...and probably should be? It's interesting how you can view things differently depending on your point of view or the context at the time. The delay is to fix some kind of online feature functionality, the team stating again that the actual gameplay of the game is set. So...I took it to mean more negatively that while more delays do suck, the real problem is that the perceived mediocirty of the game won't improve. Haha =/ Yeah, I didn't want to use a word like "definitely" to give this guy and his team some modicum of benefit of the doubt. Because...we can't know all of the story for sure? And some people are genuinely excited still, right? Eh.

I thought the delay was just uncertainty, rumors, and temporary placeholder dates. But now the Red Ash thing about not wanting to make the game look bad (too late) makes sense. The campaign is messing with us from beyond the grave. Um.... I think that quote (mediocrity is forever) is actually a positive statement? It's a paraphrase of a Miyamoto quote, who said something like, "a delayed game can eventually be good, but a rushed game is bad forever." I was thinking the same thing. I'd rather wait for the game a few extra months than ship with a broken, glitchy game. I was planning on picking it up during a Humble Bundle or Steam sale instead of launch anyway.

Remember, guys: without the Might n9 KS probably the Bloodstained KS never happen. Lets give to Inafune at last this credit.
To me, the worst problem is start another project without finish the first. The Flame because the delay is so hot because the existence of the Red Ash KS (and the Red Ash KS can suffer and flopped because the MN9 not are ready...)

He for sure cant come back to Kickstarter, and I mean never again. Looks like he'll have to use Indiegogo. ...but yeah, I get what you're saying. Inafune and Comcept violated their audience's trust. But then again, isn't the entire point of Kickstarter and crowdfunding in general to get to the point where you don't need them anymore? They've got connections with publishers and investors now. UPDATE: Here's a statement a producer posted on the MN9 forums. Make of it what you will. www.mightyno9.com/en/node/4177?page=0#comment-104243

I read that too, lol People is bashing comcept for the delay, and they are right by doing so, is unbelievable how compcet keeps damaging their image. He for sure cant come back to Kickstarter, and I mean never again. But then again, isn't the entire point of Kickstarter and crowdfunding in general to get to the point where you don't need them anymore? They've got connections with publishers and investors now. I've seen people say that before, and I really don't know where they get it from. Certainly Kickstarter has never claimed anything like that. And whether they have a publisher/investor willing to back them or not is often beside the point. Taking on funding from a publisher can mean losing control of your IP and even creative control over your project. There are plenty of developers that have turned away to Kickstarter specifically to avoid that. There is nothing wrong with using Kickstarter or any other crowd funding. Not for your first project or any project thereafter. The ideal would be for a developer to become entirely self sufficient, but it's highly unlikely for any publisher to accomplish this from one crowd funded project(keeping in mind that one of the downsides of crowd funding games is that you cannibalize your sales to provide development funds). The issue is trust. Inafune and Comcept have pretty much lost that, and MN9 will have to be fantastic for them to reclaim any of it. But in contrast, InXile is on their third Kickstarter with only one project complete(and the second was Kickstarted before the first was released). Nobody complains about that(well I'm sure someone does) because people trust Brian Fargo more than they trust Inafune.

Comcept was asked straight out if Mighty No. 9 was delayed. They said no. Not even 1 or 2 days later do they say that it was delayed. They lied. They straight up lied on a simple, direct question on a crowd funded project with a community that has been pretty patient considering the antics and controversy with the project. What was the reasoning behind lying? There was no discernible benefit from doing so. Delays aren't just randomly decided either, there are variables that are put into motion in advance so again why lie?
So yes, I'm not terribly broken up about this kickstarter being a failure. Coming right out of the gate pitching an episodic game was a terrible move for one thing. Shadow of the Eternals and Dennis Dyack did the same thing with it's first crowdfunding campaign, and look where that got them. Also announcing a publisher and retooling the kickstarter to fund DLC only...with 4 days left to spare was the single worst move I have ever witnessed with crowdfunding. I'm sorry to those who donated and I'm sorry to those who wanted this to succeed the way it was intended to. I know you guys wanted a Mega Man Legends of some sort and this spiritual successor may have seemed like a god send to you, but this was not the way to do it. You guys are still getting a game, but it clearly won't be finished since this is only one episode...of 6? 8 was it?
Oh well. Time to move on as Arcueid said.
