Just curious, but I was curious how interested in bloodstained you folks would be if Iga's pitch was pretty much the same, only it was a 3d castlevania game like lament of innocence and curse of darkness metroidvania (so more like curse in that regard)(not lords of shadow) instead of a 2.5d metroidvania. Same cast, same music, same stained glass theme, etc.

I like both of his 3d games but I picked the first choice. 3D just isn't his bread and butter, rather level design isn't... repetition may pass in a sidescrolling game but my God was it tedious and bland in the 3d games.
He should play to his strengths which to me sidescrolling games. The only way I'd be okay with him venturing back into 3d is if he has a big team that is very experienced with 3D games and has a big budget.

My jump into 3D games has been difficult. I always have an apprehension when it comes to character+camera controls even if at least tank controls are about unused nowadays. Fixed camera rail game-style is easier on playability but of course hampers freedom a good deal, the same goes for enemy lockdown.
I am fine with a 2.5D game, really. I am not nostalgic of pixel art even if I always appreciate games that have it. For me, the most important part is the playability and overall balancing. Another one is the absence of fatal glitches/bugs.
After that I am pretty open to anything, as long as it's compelling enough.
I am also used to the grinding (blame RPGs) as long as you don't die in a cheap way because of relentless opposition.
As for Master Iga's way of managing the game, I'd be pretty confident he'd want to do his best like now. That said, the end result is never guaranteed until the foundations of the game are made pretty solid. Let's just say I'd be confident still, like now for our little 2.5D 'stained.

I'd like to see what IGA could do in a 3D space... but gimme my 2.5 Castle first.

I love IGA's 3D Castlevania, and Curse of Darkness is one of my favorite, but they objectively had issues especially regarding the graphics and level design. I wouldn't be as excited as I were for Bloodstained also because IGA has got less experience in 3D. Having loved Lament and Curse, however, I would still get it.

I'd be less interested but still interested enough to get it. And that's why i have "half-doubts" about IGA's ability on 3d gameplay. I played both Curse of Darkness and Lamment of Innocence. I personally like Lamment more, scenario-wise and Curse more, gameplay-wise (I love the Forgemaster and Innocent Devil systems) but Lamment has way better graphics and environment in my opinion. I read a interview of IGA once, where he said that he did what he could with both games because, at the time, doing a 3d game was already a bit expensive and the budget he had wasn't enough. Basically, the budget to do both Curse and Lamment was more or less the same he had to do most of his 2d games. That partially justifies why the games were not that good. Even so, i really think IGA doesn't have a great skill at managing 3d games like that. Due to that, i would be less interested but still interested enough to get it and play it, because, with a much bigger budget, i'm sure something better could come out of it.

I'd be interested for sure, but not as interested as I am now. Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness were both good games, albeit with significant flaws. Nano Breaker wasn't so great but I'd be willing to give another 3D game by him a shot. But yeah 2D gameplay was the preferable choice for him.

I enjoyed some 3D Castlevanias, gave them a chance due to Symphony of the Night, but I ran through them just once and never came back. SotN is where my heart is, and if Bloodstained were to introduce a new IGA adventure in the 3D realm, I would probably only enjoy it if they had enough productiontime on it, since empty areas are a thing I really dislike, and probably the reason 3D in the early days never was as fun to me as a 2D, which I, on another note, grew up with.
I voted I'd be less interested but still interested enough to get it! - If the productionvalue were high. Same budget without the extra modes. I would probably not back the $500 tier, but instead perhaps the $60 also. If I would loved the game, I would look for a higher tier later on - if possible and even be a alpha-build tester if there were a chance on it, leaving feedback.
I would not be as involved as I am right now either, that is for sure, but more read up and leave youtube comments instead of taking part in forums.
In a sense, if a 3D world is created, it needs to be very interesting for me to even try it out. 2D is almost a given, and if they were to introduce multiplayer, It would just dig its hole deeper for me. I am a one-player type of guy, its rooted within me since the Super Mario and Donkey Kong days on the Nintendo Famicom 8bit.

I'd be in wait and see mode. I might still have backed it just to support IGA, but it would have been at a lower digital tier. I certainly wouldn't have pledged for multiple platforms. I really just am not a fan of the 3D Castlevania games' designs. To be honest, I think Castlevania 64(I never played the Legacy of Darkness version, so I can't comment on that) was the best of them because at least it was trying(albeit badly) to replicate the 2D games' gameplay. IGA's 3D games got the atmosphere right, but they just didn't play like Castlevania to me. I can imagine my feeling towards those games being akin to how some Oldvania fans feel towards the post-Rondo games.

I think I wouldn't have kickstarted as much as I would have. I loved CoD and LoI, but the camera has never really been done right in that series, iirc. and I think there are only some many ways a room and corridor can work.

i would still get it for 5 reasons!
1. To support IGA and Miss Michiru 2. i loved Curse of Darkness 3. if it has Michiru Yamane as the soundtrack composer then shut up take my money and let me listen to it 4. i would be interested to see IGA make a comeback to 3D games 5. if all the scenario was still the same then take my money. young girls with swords and magic + alchemy + demons = profit
BUT! no... it would have been a mess and im sure those amazing 5.5 millions would not exist if the game was 3d oriented and a few reasons of why i think that are the next:
1. NOSTALGIA SELLS: lets face it, while hardcore castlevania fans would have thrown their gold at iga (like me) many people donated because of nostalgia and the god ol days playing 2d sidescrollers but most importantly a true castlevania game and 3D igavanias are obscure titles with lots of critics and hate not to mention underrated.
2. SOTN and ARIA: Correct me if im mistaken but these two games in particular are the ones that made IGA a superstar, specially SOTN being of the most popular games in history and people want more games like these two not like LoI and CoD and guess what! bloodstained its trying to emulate those two and to our pleasure its doing it just right.
3. THAT KICKSTARTER PITCH: having a game developer with EXPERIENCE making games talking about his ideas sure make lots of people hype but if you remember iga talked about game companies rejecting him and his ideas that were all about 2d games so if the game was supposed to be 3d then im sure it would have been a very different story.
4. KONA... cough. lets just say a lot of people hate a certain "gaming" company for many reasons and one of those reasons was not letting Game developers do their work right. Having an ex developer to succed with a 2D game wich was something that im sure the corporates of this certain company considered unprofitable and old, would have been a slap in the face for them and not only them but also to the other companies that closed the doors to a very humble man.
so forever happy that ROTN is not a 3D game nor a fully 2D game. 2.5 its just perfect. fun fact. Lords of shiz was a pretty popular game that while it had nothing of igavania it actually made the franchise more popular by the time it came so maybe that could have affected a 3D igavania game with positive results. (dont get me wrong, I HATE those games)

I'm a big fan of Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. They have the feel of Castlevania, and the combat felt great especially with the magical subweapon/orb combos in Lament (the same great system in Harmony of Dissonance) and the Innocent Devils and wide weapon variety in Curse. The music was phenomenal in both and they nailed the gothic atmosphere.
The biggest issue in both is the extreme overuse of copypasting hallways. Lament got away with it a bit better because all of its areas were indoors. But Curse really suffered since, as much as I LOVE that game for breaking away from "all castle, all the time" and having areas like mountains, aqueducts, dark forests, secret temples etc. they were all just very long repeated sequences of rooms and hallways with different coats of paint. Dracula's Castle in particular felt like 8 floors of the same 3 hallways and 5 rooms. If IGA and team ever did 3D again and fixed that ONE massive issue I think the 3D Castlevania games would carry much more weight.

Not interested. I love 2-D gameplay for titles like this. Sure, there's the odd exception (I actually really loved the original "Darksiders"), but I much prefer 2-D for Metroidvania-style games. Ditto for fighting games.

2d metroidvania also has the bonus of attracting the fanbases of other indie games looking to catch that sotn magic.

If Monobit were to be attached to the Bloodstained game, and it would be 3D, I think this are a close graphic style to what could have been. The game Lord of Vermilion Arena, an MMO now closed, were made by Monobit. Of course, with IGA giving out the shots, many things would be different. Firstly, not an MMO.

There seemed to be a lot of vitriolic criticism regarding Castlevania 64 which I thought was a touch harsh. Yes, it had its flaws but, generally, those defects didn't really spoil, what was, a whip-cracking, spooky adventure.
The game infused a feeling of loneliness that made it all the more eerie. Occasionally, the hairs stood on the back of my neck whenever I was very low on life and stalked by the nasty vampires that'd wait for you in certain areas. Those vampires would chase you relentlessly and make horrible noises as they lunged. The chainsaw-wielding Frankenstein in the garden maze was menacing. Stained-glass knights, skeletons on motorbikes, an epic fight with a behemoth, spider-women and blood monsters were just a few enemies that kept you on your toes.
Personally, I found Castlevania 64 a tad more creepy than Symphony of the Night. I loved it!

I agree, and feel that Castlevania 64, at least in the Reinhardt scenario, was probably the most Castlevania-esque of the 3D games. The others seemed to be going for vibes set by other games, but as clunky as it was, the N64 game did feel like it was trying to be Castlevania in 3D.
