Souls as forging materials? Sounds like Dark Souls. =P Or Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which came out in 2005, a wee bit earlier than Dark Souls Or Last Armageddon, NES, which came out it 1988, a wee bit earlier than Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.

Or Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, which came out in 2005, a wee bit earlier than Dark Souls Or Last Armageddon, NES, which came out it 1988, a wee bit earlier than Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Thank you for this. I'd never heard of the game, and now, after reading the wiki entry, I really want to play it. "The humans who breathed the toxin-filled air on the Earth's surface became one with the Earth and kept dissolving. The history of humanity ended and dominion of the planet returned to the demons. These mutant creatures did not depend on oxygen to survive. Therefore, they were able to breathe the air and use the land. Meanwhile, an army of robots wage World War IV against the demons in order to conquer what is now known as Makai - the Demon World. These robots came to the planet on a wave of energy that created an explosion that turned the world into a wasteland. Much later in the game, concurrent themes including Adolf Hitler, war, creating a perfect race of people, and the destruction of humanity in the year 1999 are revealed to the player inside one of the robot's main bases."

IGA discussed the RPG elements in an interview. He said that enemies will have multiple drops each being attributed by a body part. So they might get a head drop, or arm drop, or leg drop.
Some might be crafting items, some might be a crystal to then create an ability or skill, and others might be straight up stat increases. So for instance, a head drop could be INT increase, or a leg drop could increase your character speed. Really sounded in-depth

I don't remember that. Smashing apart individual bodyparts in valkyrie profile 2 was tons of fun, but bosses would respawn. I hope bloodstained doesn't 'force' you to kill every boss super slowly because you want to kill all their bodyparts for all their drops without accidentally killing the boss first or whatever, that could be annoying unless they respawn or something to let you just do it normally knowing you can get the other parts later.

No you don't attack body parts. They just have different drops according to body parts.
So you kill it you might get a head drop, you kill another you might get a leg drop. Nothing to do with how you kill them.

I'd be totally fine with however the main game, among other playable modes, will be handled RPG element-wise.
For those who'd rather not play an "Igavania"-esque game with RPG elements, there's the Classic Mode option that will be available in Bloodstained (if I remember correctly from the Kickstarter stretch goals).
All I'd be wondering is if there will enough variety in enemies so that it wouldn't be too difficult (or tediously time-consuming) to reach close, if not all the way, to the maximum level. Although, I'd be totally fine with an absurdly-high level cap...since I've never reached the highest level in any Metroidvania before, anyway.
For those who prefer a greater challenge in the main single-player mode, why not have a "Level 1 Cap" difficulty option?
*(Edit): Personally, I'd love it if Bloodstained's castle is larger than 4 SotN castles put together, and there would be enough variety in powerful enemies throughout your travels in the castle for a maximum Level-Cap of 255.

I want a large castle as much as the next person but the most important quality is a well designed castle. If they make it big just to lengthen gameplay but copy and paste tons of rooms to do it then I rather now. SOTN's castle is the perfect size because while it's big enough there's plenty of unique rooms throughout and not much in the way of repeating looks compared to others in the series.

I actually agree 100% with this, despite my earlier comment. I just think they'd still be able to pull off a high-quality castle, and I'm sure it will be much larger than SotN's Castle (large enough) without repeating similar themes too often, if at all...and without it literally being 4x bigger. To fit this in with RPG elements though, I'd like to see just how varied that enemies and item drops can get, as you'll undoubtedly be fighting progressively tougher enemies and finding increasingly rare items (as well as crafting some through Alchemy) as you travel throughout the castle's many different sections.

How about this? (from bloodstainedfanforums.com/thread/120/excited-bloodstained-offical-stuff?page=2)"I know Order of Ecclesia had level cap modes, one of which was you capped at level 1... but that might be a bit extreme for some people. I like your idea, and I think it could even be added to: Have an option to turn exp gain on or off at any time, with loot rewarded at the end based on how low you were when you cleared the game. For example: Lvl 100 (max level): Joke weapon A. Level 75-99: Weapon A, armor A, joke weapon A. Level 50-74: Spell A, weapon A, armor A, joke weapon A. Level 25-49: Familiar A, spell A, weapon A, armor A, joke weapon A. Level 2-24: Weapon B, armor B, familiar A, spell A, weapon A, armor A, joke weapon A. Level 1: Familiar B, joke weapon B, weapon B, armor B, familiar A, spell A, weapon A, armor A, joke weapon A. Maybe less items than that, but with the whole "earn things from your tier and all previous tiers for completing this challenge" mechanic intact."

I'm not trying to make this game really hard actually my favorite part of the igavania games is the RPG element (and I hate Classic Mode). I just beat SotN (again) and Dracula was way too easy (I was only lv 50). I started this thread to see how we could balance the game. and I still think the best option is to turn off exp when we want to.

that sounds awesome. So the many of the monsters will have 5 drops instead of 2, like in most other igavanias XD.. I can't wait that means a lot of item drops... I hope the forging be really deep... I wonder if crafting abilities will be lv based

I wish I had a link for that really old World of Warcraft comic where some girl is reading her quest saying she needs various materials from various animal body parts and she's like sweet, simple, and on the next screen you see like a zoo's worth of animals, where they are all missing said body parts.. I wonder if that will be applicable to this game at some point.

God knows we had enough LotR references in SotN, so... it could happen. It's not my prime concern, though. It would still be funny to see a few references here and there to TES. So long as Bloodstained will be another excellent Igavania title, perhaps surpassing SotN and others, I'll be most satisfied. Gotta say, though...RPG elements in a non-linear exploration focused series of games is kinda what the TES series has. (Edit): I think it may be more likely that Bloodstained will contain references to the Metroid series (aside from being part of a genre of games influenced by Metroid).
