If you haven't been following Magic: the Gathering, the newest set, Shadows over Innistrad, is going to be coming out in April, and it has a heavy Lovecraft horror theme going on. This set is a return to Innistrad. The first time, the story explored general horror tropes (werewolves, ghosts, vampires, zombies (particularly of the mad-scientist variety)). On this return trip, there's a heavy Lovecraft theme, with hints of a big bad of some type deep in the ocean (still as yet to be revealed). Anyway, Innistrad was a great romp the first time, and this return is shaping up to be something pretty amazing. magic.wizards.com/en/content/articles

If anyone plays, add me as Xombiemike.

If you think about it, doesn't the Eldrazi have some Lovecraftian/Great Old Ones undertones to them as well?

If you think about it, doesn't the Eldrazi have some Lovecraftian/Great Old Ones undertones to them as well? Yep, that's definitely true... I think there's still some speculation that the final (known) Eldrazi could be behind what's going on in Innistrad, but I suppose that remains to be seen!

The full spoiler has been revealed and I gotta say the set is looking to be great. I'm looking forward to my pre-release this weekend. For the Castlevania fans here, I highlight two cards: Just LOL. This guy gives NO fucks! This card is an obvious riff of the Vampire > Mist trope. What's especially interesting is the direct inspiration for the card! Did you see that coming?

Lore-wise, I am very looking forward to this set. Vampires, Werefolks, angels, and so on mixed with some Lovecraftian insanity, corruption and seasoning and we have the ingredients for some very delicious storytelling. I can only hope that someday we will have Slivers vs Eldrazi. I don't care how it turns out in the end, I want to see/read the play by play.
