Wait... I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A KICKSTARTER!  I actually watched the original dub of The Vision of Escaflowne for the first time last year. Wasn't unbearable but I've heard better dubs. However, I liked the plot, the characters, and the romance elements, and I LOVED the music. It's awesome to hear it getting a redub. I'm seriously tempted to back, but I have no income at the moment! Grr! |

I still have my DVD copies I bought back in the late 90's early 2000's where it was THREE episodes to a disc! And that was back when each volume was selling for $27-$35 each.
I still can't believe that Fox tried to run this series on Saturday morning with all of the other cartoons....

I'm just glad the campaign is successful and people are still interested in dubs. I find the anime fandom in general to be uncomfortable and irritating with how hardcore/snooty fans can be about things like translations and subtitles, but dubs have always been a good way gateway/middle ground for people like me who just want to be entertained or watch a show that the USA probably wouldn't ever make.

I have this series on dvd in my room,and I find it somewhat irritating that funimation is using a kickstarter to fund this series when their the biggest anime company in north america,despite how much I love the series and used to watch it on tv this is a case where they could have funded it themselves
I would rather them bring back some other series like tekkamon or king arthur and the knights of justice,or something,still not going to complain if people want to donate and get their new dvd set go for it,its a great series

Apparently they were already doing an HD retake of the series but were originally only going to offer it with Japanese dub and English subtitles. The Kickstarter was supposed to be specifically for the English dub alone. But I suppose in the end that still means they're using KS as a Pre-Order system of sorts... The kinda even directly say that's what they're doing. But either way, glad to see it get done.

The only beef I have with dubs these days is whether they butcher pronunciations of the Japanese names. Especially the emphasis on certain syllables.
Because I'm one of 'those' people ... Imagine Haruhi being spoken as Ha-ROO-hee instead of HA-roo-hee for example. Love Hina (before I swore to never pay attention to it in great detail ever again) killed me with Kay-TAR-ro every time.
