The notice just went out about an hour ago. The reason was apparently due to challenges in "network modes" (online connectivity/co-op?). There's no new date given, only "Spring 2016." I only scanned the comments, but it's the usual mix... You can see the update here.

Just read it and a lot of people are pissed with most of them ask the game developer to refund their money

"Online matchmaking" again. I hope Bloodstained doesn't delay itself for something like a year over the asynchronous multiplayer or something. It's supposed to be a classic Mega Man game!
I can see how it would be challenging to implement various online features for -every- platform they're promising, since they all do function a lot differently. Online play on a PS4 vs online play on a 3DS would certainly be quite different. Even so, given the backlash from variuos issues, I might would have either been extra conservative with date estimates or released the game sans online functionality and then added that later. Even something as high profile as Metal Gear Online for MGS5 was handled in such a way, and definitely didn't mar the overall reception of the game (if anything, Konami itself did that).
The backer comments are just vicious...I don't think I would be -that- upset (I backed by Paypal shortly after the campaign). Oh well. At this point, I hope more than anything they can pull through and this game is awesome.

Yeah, I just heard of this as well. What a pity...I certainly hope Bloodstained's development isn't as troubled, purify's right on the mark. At the very least, though, Bloodstained has a lot more time than MN9, and more sensible dev goals too, since it's on Unreal 4 and not being ported to as many systems,

I cant knock them for this, having to resort to reprogramming an entire section of the engine that has to be tweaked multiple directions is a nightmare, i hope they can figure it ou soon so they can get it released and take a breather

Most people already heard me rant in the shout-box how displeased I am with comcept and inafune since I am one of the actual people who backed the project I think its safe to say he wont be making mighty number 9 a series nor will he be able to depend on kickstarter in the future

Another Kickstarter Reminder to roll out updates like Shovel Knight did, e.g. don't try to do absolutely everything prior to launch.

I have a lot more confidence in Bloodstained. Mighty No. 9 did its Kickstarter very early in the Kickstarter era of game funding. I think it broke the record at the time. And part of the problem was the number of stretch goals they added (compounded by further allowance with open backing after the KS finished). Many Kickstarter projects have had problems with adding too many stretch goals without really understanding how those things will delay games. In any case, my main point here is that Bloodstained started its KS project with a solid plan of what to expect. They knew what to aim for, and they set timeline goals accordingly, as gunlord500 mentioned.

On how the Unreal Engine 3 was not getting updates to help with their problem regarding online. Why are they the only ones to have this problem? It's not even an ambitious task; it sounds like they're making excuses because they're just not familiar with that type of designing when it comes to games.

So a friend of mine when told about this asked an interesting question: How many delays did Mighty No. 9 go through thus far?

This is...#3 I believe. It seems like more than that with the communication problems, i.e. how there was denial of a delay for a time, Red Ash being...a thing, just general fanbase confusion.
The original release date was to be April 2015 I believe, and if spring 2016 holds, looks like a good whole year.

So a friend of mine when told about this asked an interesting question: How many delays did Mighty No. 9 go thus far? Three. #1: It was from April 2015 to a Fall 2015 release because Deep Silver was publishing physical copies #2: It was delayed from Fall to February 2016 because of a network problem for the online modes #3: This delay, from February to Spring 2016, for the same reason as above They've been having this problem since Summer of last year, apparently...

At this point, people just want to play the game. If I was Inafune, I'd release the game and patch in the online stuff at a later date. Seriously!

For real, there is something very wrong in the dev team and they just don't want admit it. This isn't an ambitious AAA project or something, it's just a simple platformer game God dammit, how one simple game can go so wrong?

I was counting down the days to the release of the game but I have really worried that I hadn't heard anything about platform surveys yet. Now I know why. It's too late now but if they had staggered the release of content and platforms over time (ala the already mentioned Shovel Knight) they would have been golden. Now they've put themselves into a corner and they only way out is to grind through these bugs. You're never too old or too experienced to be learning lessons though. Heck, its clear (to me at least) that a lot of lessons learned with managing/producing MN9 have gone into Bloodstained and will likely make the later game even better. Here's hoping this third delay won't be too long. It's not even an ambitious task; it sounds like they're making excuses because they're just not familiar with that type of designing when it comes to games. How many Unreal 3 games are coming out nowadays with this many features across so many platforms? Remember how borked the online for the Master Chief Collection was (and that had Microsoft money behind it). Doing online modes in games is hard. Releasing on 41535125 platforms is hard. Granted its their own fault for putting themselves in this situation but I don't doubt they are really trying their best to get this game fucking out there. So a friend of mine when told about this asked an interesting question: How many delays did Mighty No. 9 go thus far? 3 Delays 1) April 2015 > October 2015 2) October 2015 > February 2016 3) February 2016 > "Spring 2016" Though to be fair, nobody should be upset with the first delay - that's when Deep Silver jumped in and massively improved the base package of the game. That and KS game rarely come out on time anyway. It's the 2nd delay and this one that are ballbusters.

Basically, the outdated engine is the problem. Man, if only UE4 was out when they started this...

It's funny to see how people flocked to Inafune's corner when he announced this Kickstarter, but now the game seems to have destroyed his reputation.
2013: Screw you, Capcom! You killed Mega Man! Disk-locked content! Well, don't worry, Inafune is our savior, Mighty No. 9 will show you how it's done!
2016: Urgh, Inafune is a #$@%ing hack! Endless delays! Never telling us all those additional Red Ash stretch goals! Grr! Capcom, you've been, er... generally inoffensive lately. I just might get the Legacy Collection.
I agree with the commenters who say that what they should do is release the game without online, then patch in the online later. While I do put stock into the 'A delayed game is good eventually, a rushed game is bad forever' viewpoint, the amount of delays this game has gotten is getting cartoonish.

I called Inafune shady (and a few other, more "fun" things) when MN9 launched and I've posted nearly identical comments after each delay and the Red Ash KS.
The posts stayed the same, but the replies? Oh man, they went from being flooded with insults and accusations to getting spirited approvals and agreements. Have to say, I really enjoyed seeing the journey of a few remarks from one end of the spectrum to the other.
