Yeah, I think this is a case similar to Star Citizen, where the amount of funds received far outstripped the original expectations, and so the scope of what could be done expanded. Can't really expect the original time estimate for a baseline product to hold when you are no longer getting a baseline product.

I don't think so, but I don't think it matters. Iga and company are not only far more experienced when it comes to making games than most people who run a Kickstarter, but they're also a group of incredibly humble, incredibly sober people who won't lose sight of what's really important. Just listen to Iga-san talk in those "Ask Iga" videos. That's how you know he's a real pro.

I think most of us are collectively on the side of the game missing its estimated release, though.

I clicked Nope. I don't care how long it takes. I'm just wishing for a terrific adventure that'll blow my socks off.

I'll give this game the same time it took to make Symphony, about 4 years. Sure they had assets from the axed castlevania title they were working on but since they aren't making pixel art this time around that should compensate.

Symphony took that long because it involved a cancelled 32X project. You're probably better off looking at Inti Creates in general. If we're to look at Mighty No 9, it took them two and a half years since it got funded to release their game.

Other : Igarashi-san said himself in AskIGA#7 that the team is a little bit late but there is still so much time between today and the release date that I think it is too early for that question. Still, I think it will be release like one or two months later because it oftenly goes like that. Regardless, I'd rather to see the game being released later and better than sooner in worse quality.

I don't think it will be released in Early 2017 like originally thought, but I do consider it safe to say we will likely get the game by the end of 2017. That would be a solid 2.5 years of dev time if they launched it at Christmas of 2017. We'll know more soon, as I do remember the team is hoping to have something to show at this year's E3.

To be fair, the game already has a publisher, and extra funding due to Kickstarter. Money probably wont be that large of an issue. The thing is, will the publishers willing to give out the extra money? that is the big question right there That's the whole point of the publisher: take on the financial risk of game development, so developers can make better games, while the publisher makes more from each copy sold. Honestly, I could see Deep Silver being fairly generous with funding the project, as a lot of the financial risk has already been removed from them.

We currently don’t have any specific information available regarding the game’s release date, as it’s currently way too early to accurately predict. I’m not on the development team or anything, but I do have some experience that might help put things in perspective. Here’s three important things to keep in mind:
1) Kickstarter requires you to pick an estimated fulfillment date (Month & Year) for each reward tier, so we had to make our best guess based on the current scope of the project. Once a tier is live (and at least one person backs at it), the information you wrote is totally immutable (you can’t change anything). This is why the $150 tier still lists including a Softcover art book instead of a Hardcover art book, even though the Hardcover stretch goal was reached within the first couple of hours after the campaign launched.
2) The Kickstarter ended up being SUPER successful (which is awesome), however hitting every stretch goal also significantly increased the project’s scope. More funding is great, because it’s the lifeblood of any project on this scale, but adding more things can also add more development time (more money doesn’t necessarily translate into faster development; like if you paid a painter 25% more, they won’t necessarily paint 25% faster).
3) Estimating an accurate delivery date for a creative project (especially with a new IP) is extremely difficult. Whether you’re a professional or an amateur, guessing the date for when your creative magnum opus project will be completed is nearly impossible until it’s very close to completion. It’s also pretty dangerous to announce your best guess too soon (as it’ll likely be inaccurate) because the public may conflate the inaccuracy as lying or failure if it doesn’t match what you had originally said.

You shouldn't have to explain this but gamers/the internet can be pretty dumb :/ Thanks for taking the time to do so though. As an aside, I'm curious, what is the current fundraising total. I know right after the campaign it was around $5.7 million with PayPal and whatnot. What is it now (especially after the custom surveys)?

Delays occurs in almost every game, and the "not delayed ones" can be a bad ones. I think Iga and crew will choose spend more time to make a better game. Plus we got a lot of Stretch Goals, all then probably not completely counted to the "release time". But I think the prequel one will be lauch before, to make us be prepared to the launch (and to forget any delay )

Thanks for taking the time to mention all that Steve. I wasn't aware that Kickstarter information and tiers couldn't be edited like that once the first backer contributes money. I had a feeling points 2 and 3 would be the case since the same things happened with some other projects (Shovel Knight was the first one to pop in my mind and there's still some content on the way for it).
As excited as everyone is for Bloodstained, the people making the game are still human and prone to making mistakes. I don't plan on holding any ill towards anyone will if delays are an issue.

Honestly I'm imagining Fall 2018.
I have plenty of confidence in the devs, but I understand that delays happen, and the scope is much bigger than originally planned.
On top of the original promised game we have promises of: Extra boss(es?) Extra music pieces Extra stages Extra difficulties/modes Local co-op Online Multiplayer Orchestrated music Three playable characters The biggest Iga game yet Some kind of randomly generated dungeon (probably another mode)
As well as: Cosmetic accessories Additional outfit(s) Crafting Prequel mini game and ports
And everything else that will make the game. You guys saw the last update with that gorgeous background, so you know a lot of work is going to be put into that. They've also reworked the shaders to our liking (thanks again devs).
Kickstarter + Paypal + Inti money, puts the budget at somewhere close to $10m. There are certainly games with much higher budgets these days, and those games take quite a while to make as well, even the games that already have usable assets from previous entries in their series, which the devs of Bloodstained can absolutely not use at all.
I don't think all that is getting done in a year and a half. Though... you know... if the devs DO happen to get it done by that time... you can give it to me early...
The only thing I ask for is to prevent things along the lines of those Might No. 9 delays.

Honestly I'm imagining Fall 2018. If it takes that long my only worry is the Wii U version might be cancelled. The NX is launching later this year and I would at best expect Wii U's mainstream support to last through 2017, maybe early 2018 before it is discontinued in favor of NX. I suppose it could go on to launch in late 2018 probably as the last game on the console although im not sure how sales would fare.
