Okay, so I guess I'll be the one to make this topic... (though I really should get back to work lol)
Listening to the current Bloodcast (and that's just what I call it, you guys don't have to haha), something very interesting is clarified. As most of us were, I was under the impression that ArtPlay was an overseas mobile gaming company that hired Igarashi-san on since he couldn't secure traditinoal funding for his project, working something of a typical 9-to-5 in an assumedly large corporation. They were kind enough to hire him under the agreement that if he were to somehow be able to have his project started up, they would allow him to work on it on the side. This all comes from, I believe, comments shared with us from Ben Judd and from early interviews (such as the one that followed him around the time the KS pitch video was shot, iirc).
Now, from what we've heard from Mana who actually works at ArtPlay, it is a comparatively small company with IGA near the top. Their PRIMARY focus is Bloodstained, and they handle most of the decisions regardnig development. I'm just as, well, maybe even more surprised about this than Mike. I have to wonder if it was as Ben said before, but when the Kickstarter was met with such success, the ArtPlay folks decided hey, this is now our thing. Not sure, though.
All in all, this is GREAT news. We've gone from what was perceived to be a day job letting IGA have some free time/ability to do a side project to them becoming the head/largely contributing to Bloodstained as their focus.
It could come off to the average fan as if you were selling video games in the electronics section of Wal Mart and one of the Waltons walks up to you and says, "Hey man! I heard you had some great ideas. Let's scrap this Wal Mart thing and make spiritual successors to sprite-based Final Fantasy games!"
Not actually that ridiculous in this case, of course, and that likely may not be similar to the situation, but still...it's pretty interesting and great.

To be fair there was an interview where IGA said 'his team' will be handling the things that make IGAVANIA's feel like IGAVANIA's.... the magic system, the castle layout and design, equipment system.
So I imagine he might have a few people at Artplay that worked with him on previous games.

Now, from what we've heard from Mana-chan (can I do that? ) No. Chan and kun are reserved for more personal relationships. The proper thing would be Mana san. I'm pretty sure just Mana or Vusc is preferred. Using first names in Japan is a very personal thing as well. Vusc is from Jersey though. My education on this is dependent on my wife, so I hope I have this right. If Mana was my little sister, I'd use Chan. Or is she was a school peer.

No problem. Heck you should leave it so other people know.
Anyways, back on topic. I was actually really surprised and confused about the ArtPlay topic. It's a really great thing though, like you've said. It's great to know that IGA has two developers and a communications manager to focus on Bloodstained on a daily basis.
Maybe we can do something crazy like find out what ArtPlay likes and send them something every week. Like fan coffee, or donuts.

Yeah, I totally had the same impression that purifyweirdshard expressed with regards to the nature of Artplay and their relationship to IGA. Instead it seems they serve a similar role as Comcept did for Mighty No. 9. Interesting. As an aside, since we are all speaking English, a language which doesn't use honorifics, maybe we should just continue on not using honorifics? I'm not trying to go all Bandit Keith on y'all but it feels kinda weebish to be throwing those around unless you are actually translating from Japanese (and even then I feel those often don't have to be kept across translations).

That's getting back off topic again. I'm on the weeb defense force, so if someone wants to call Lord IGA "IGA Sama" then please feel free to do so. If we are going to be "weebs", let's be proper about it out of respect for culture.
I don't like words like weeaboo and other pigeon hole names meant to judge people on the Internet. They are best avoided in my opinion. Unless it's funny. If it's funny you can't get mad, right?
OK, back to talking about ArtPlay. Let's buy them donuts.

lol, I rarely use such things. I'm not 100% clear on the specifics of how they work, but the -chan just sounded spiffy. I'm down on playing around a bit with people's names/doing nicknames. Scars Unseen doesn't know it yet, but I'm going to be calling him Sunscreen because it's shorter and way fun to say. Also, I shall not be called such names by a kawaii crocodile such as you! You steal mens' posts, and make them your bullets.
Back on topic, put me down for doughnuts. Does Japan have Krispy Kreme? Best doughnut. But it's a North Carolina company, so...
I would hate for Inti to feel left out, though. They should be sent treats as well. Sugary, carrb-filled treats to give them game-making energies.

I think it was my first or second week going to ArtPlay during the time we recorded the podcast, so I wasn't very clear on ArtPlay's role. I had the same idea as purifyweirdsoul before coming here too.
Basically there are two branches of ArtPlay, one in China and one in Japan. IGA owns the branch here in Japan. Since he also does all the administrative work for the company, you might as well say he owns the company itself. The other CEO (the one I mentioned that I have never met) is in charge of the branch in China where they make mobile games. It's basically the same as as how Comcept is to Mighty No. 9. We also have two developers who are working on Bloodstained and going back and forth with Inti Creates on a daily basis.
We have Krispy Kreme right outside our office here in Shibuya hahaha. Never had one though.....

My experience has been that local donut shops are often better than the big chains. I don't know what the pastry scene is like out in Tokyo but I'd probably invest a bit of energy in doing some exploring/research.

I don't know what the pastry scene is like out in Tokyo but I'd probably invest a bit of energy in doing some exploring/research. This is very true. I grew up eating local donuts and Krispy Kreme tastes bland to me. I know lots of other people enjoy their donuts, bit I feel completely spoiled. Plus, getting something local would say "hey, we did some research on where you live" and probably come off as a more personal gesture.

But I mean, are you guys buying retail boxes of Krispy Kreme at a store or getting them from an actual Krispy Kreme location when the "Hot Doughnuts Now!" sign is lit? That makes all the difference in the world. I mean, I like homemade/local doughnuts too, but...yeah. There's nothing like the light, melt in your mouth hotness of a fresh Krispy Kreme doughnut. Given time, I could prove this scientifically. Finding an independent alternative near them would likely be pretty difficult, too. Haha I did find they had a JP site while I was at work today, so I figured it had to be around.

As someone who has lived in Japan for nearly a decade now, I'd like to say that the language you're speaking doesn't really matter that much. Most of my co-workers are Japanese, and I use -san when addressing them even though English is the language used predominantly in my work place. It's just respectful to address someone according to their preference and custom. I wouldn't use it on a message board when addressing someone's user name just because that's not the same thing at all, but there's nothing "weebish" about not disrespecting someone when addressing them. As for translation, I'm of the opinion that it should be kept if the source is set in a Japanese culture and discarded if it is not. Same reason as above.

I'm not 100% clear on the specifics of how they work, but the -chan just sounded spiffy. In reality, you can get away with it because you are not Japanese and are ignorant of their culture. If you were Japanese and raised in Japan, yes it would be weird to address someone you don't personally know with chan. If you called her that to her face, she might correct you, or she might accept it knowing you don't know any better. Either way it's not going to hurt any feelings.

They're generally more melt-in-your-mouth and don't have to hold together like those.
