Hey all! Have you guys ever heard of/ever played Freedom Planet? It started out as a quaint kickstarter game that made about 25 grand a couple of years ago. Think Old School 2D platforming on the Genesis like Sonic or Ristar and throw in boss fights that are about as insane as Gunstar Heroes. You can try the demo right now on steam to see if it's your cup of Carol Tea. There are also more playable characters on the way via Free DLC. store.steampowered.com/app/248310/www.nintendo.com/games/detail/L6htkSwa_KeePlYrdKPdi2ssC7jyIxpPI played it either earlier this year or late last year and I LOVED IT. I had decided to cave and buy it at full price after watching a video review from SomeCallMeJohnny. This very review for this game introduced me to someone who is now one of my favorite youtubers ever. Anyway, today on Christmas they announced a sequel called Freedom Planet 2. No subtitle yet, but I can sense it coming. They changed up the art style. Make it look a bit less like a certain blue rodent. I welcome the change. More details can be found here. www.freedomplanet2.com/ I mentioned earlier that the free dlc for the first game is coming, that's still true. Anyway, discuss. If you have played it, what did you think about it? If not, give it a try.

From the "about" page. Good. Classic Mode is the only way I can enjoy Freedom Planet. I know there's people out there who liked the story and acting, but I found those embarrassing and I don't think any additional new acting/writing talent is going to change my mind for the sequel unless Galaxy Trail finds a way to replace the entire script with scenes from Breaking Bad (Lilac has to collect blue meth now!).
I'm excited that Christian Whitehead is on board and there's no plans/need for a crowdfunding campaign since the first game was so successful.

Yes, certain people liked the saturday morning cartoon acting style, like me.
Aw, that's a DRASTIC change of the artstyle and overall direction, it seems. The trailer no longer gives me heavy Sonic SatAM flashbacks, which is what I LIKED about the first game. It seems more... anime. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see. I hope it doesn't get TOO serious. I liked the original game's direction of "goofy colorful world with a SERIOUS villain."

Torque was planned for this month, but the main dude thought he needed a LOT more testing. That and devs are with their families so that will take more time. What I find most interesting is the feedback they seem to be taking as far as the beta. Here is are the changes in the recent beta build. Alright, so, I think Torque is in a good enough state to be tested. There are a few caveats of course:
- MP2 was not available for the holidays to port this to Chowdren, so the beta will have to be PC exclusive for now. You'll also need Steam for it since I don't want this to get leaked out in its current state. - Torque is only playable in Time Attack right now, but he is available from the start. Additionally, a few of his stages are locked out for now since I'm not 100% happy with them yet. - I'm not sure if save files from the main version of the game will transfer over, but in any case, you should be able to play around with him right away since I unlocked all of his current content in Time Attack. - Refer to the Known Issues section before reporting bugs.
If possible, keep bug reports to this particular thread so they're not confused with the public build.
General: - Torque is added as a playable character. He is available from the start in this beta build but can only be used in Time Attack. When the build is further along, he will be locked until the game has been completed with two characters. - Placeholders for 8 new Torque-specific achievements have been added. They cannot be acquired yet for the most part. - The required crystals for the Gem Hoarder achievement has been lowered from 7000 to 6000 in order to make it possible for Torque to clear when he is fully playable. - The dialog cuts from the Wii U version have been carried over. See "Adventure Mode dialog cuts" for details. - Begun progress on shading Mayor Zao's sprites.
Milla: - Milla is now available to play in Adventure mode. She has several new cutscenes in addition to an altered ending sequence to accommodate the fact that she's the one fighting Brevon. - Because of Milla being playable in Adventure mode, it now has an identical character selection screen as Classic mode once she has been unlocked. - In Final Dreadnought 3, the stage ends for Milla when she crosses under the tube where the Kingdom Stone was, instead of the right side of the room. This is to accommodate for the cutscene that now takes place here in Adventure mode and will likely result in faster clear times (by less than a second, but still notable). - Milla no longer has to deal with the crosshairs in the red hallway before the final boss.
Carol - Fixed a bug where Carol's hitboxes on her attacks would sometimes not register. - Carol's energy meter drains more slowly when using the Wild Kick. (Now 1.25% per frame instead of 1.5%.) - Carol can now cancel her rolling with a Wild Kick.
Bugfixes: - In Fortune Night as Carol, pausing the game in the area between defeating the midboss and entering the mall would make the music fade out indefinitely. - In Final Dreadnought 3, the end boss's hitbox would linger after death, meaning that players with a fire shield would repeatedly hear the hit sound if they overlapped the hitbox during the cutscene. - The game could be paused during the score tally in Final Dreadnought 4 as Milla, causing the results screen to glitch out. - Pausing and selecting Next Stage during the cutscene where the heroes talk to Gong in Shang Tu Palace would make the music in Jade Creek fail to load. - Pausing and select Skip Scene in the cutscene where Lilac is being healed in Shang Tu Palace would cause the invincibility music to play in Pangu Lagoon instead of the normal stage theme.
Adventure Mode dialog cuts: - The treehouse movie scene has been shortened significantly for Lilac and Carol. (Unessential filler) - The "space cooties" dialog where Lilac explains the origin of dragons has been cut. It now simply jumps to Carol's question about why aliens are interested in Avalice. (Unnecessary exposition since Zao basically says the same stuff later on) - Torque's tent scene now fades out when the girls do their victory animation. (Torque's request to keep their mission a secret never comes into play during the story. The rest is unessential filler) - In the Zao dinner scene, removed Lilac's comment on how Milla and Carol both agree on something for once. (References an event in the story that was cut early in development)
Known Issues: - Gem Hoarder's description hasn't been updated yet. - There's a feedback loop on the achievement screen after earning the Boomerang Wrangler achievement. - Gold Rush, Flame War and Rock Star achievements cannot be acquired yet even if conditions are met. - Torque does not have a Fortune Night dance or idle gestures. That's a lot of shit. I'm actually impressed that they are making dialogue cuts. I'm one of the few that was perfectly fine with the cutscenes. If I could have my way though, I'd make some of the filler dialogue sessions optional in a menu or something. Character building, but not story important. It would keep things focused as far as the main game and what you would want to accomplish and have something extra for interested fans. A bit of advice for FP2, though I'd have to send this to them. I just might, the devs seem pretty cool.

Being a long-term sega and sonic fan,I can say Freedom Planet does a lot more good with the franchise in appeasing the old-school fans then sega can with the...tainted sonic boom series It's good to see Freedom planet getting a second game,I hope the game booms and gets some physical releases in the future

Heard about it. Played the demo, wasnt too terribly keen on it. (Though part of that is me trying to play it as a Sonic game). May dive in one of these days. Although this is just me being a cynical twat, but I kinda miss the days where I didn't see media with anthropomorphic animals and such as furry bait.

Got the game via Indie Box (awesome company. Like a Lootcrate but for specific indie titles) and I haven't played it yet. Looking to do so when I get back to school so I can stream it.
But I am super hyped for the sequel. I saw that crap and I was like "Yoooooooooo"

I got the game as soon as it came out on Wii U. I played exclusively on Classic mode because I rue the day they tried to shoehorn elaborate plots into Sonic and I sure as hell don't want to deal with it here. Honestly I think it's okay but nothing special. The physics are wonky as hell (casually walking up a 90 degree incline gave me Sonic 4 flashbacks) and the combat feels superfluous. I get they wanted to distance themselves from Sonic once Freedom Planet transitioned from being a fan game but I just feel combat would have been better replaced by the standard "stomping on heads" approach the older Sonics and Marios took. The levels all have great themes and look great but they go on a bit too long in my opinion. Also, while some of the bosses are great (I love the Mantallith fight) many are... subpar, to put it nicely.
I don't regret purchasing it or anything though. I'll play a level or two here or there in between other stuff. But the game has some significant flaws that really brought it down for me.

Levels are very long, which is why I'm always impressed by the speed runners clearing this stuff in 3-5 minutes. One thing that I had to get over very quickly was the fact that this game WASN'T a sonic game. Was it inspired by it? Without question. Though in terms of playstyle there are enough differences where I had to break habits brought up by muscle memory. I can't count the amount of times where I would hold down and press a button expecting a spin-dash among other things. The minute I broke that habit, I was having more fun with it. Not saying that's what you are all doing, but in my own case this was my problem. Though while we're on the subject, I'm wondering who is running the facebook page. I've been reading some of the official replies to people and while I appreciate the direct answers to concerns/questions, but quite a few of them are rather terse. Too terse. www.facebook.com/freedomplanetgame/?fref=ts

It's definitely enjoyable. I hate the first half of Relic Maze though (everything before the crystal cave area). Then again every platformer has at least one level I'm not too fond of.
