It appears to me that the vast majority of our podcast listeners use YouTube to listen to the show. This was a big surprise to me. I hadn't even considered putting it on YouTube, but someone on BloodstainedMiriam's Facebook page requested it so I decided it wouldn't be too difficult to make that an option. The more options for our listeners the better. That's why the show will also be available on Google Play Music as soon as their podcast library is ready. We are already approved.
One of the hot topics going around right now is YouTube Red. This is a paid service around 10$ a month. It's features include; no ads, save for later offline functionality, using the player with the screen off, switching applications while still having the audio going, full access to Google Play Music, and premium content for new shows that feature top YouTube personalities.
Many of those features sound excellent for podcasts. I predict that most podcasts will turn to YouTube because of these possibilities. YouTube supports it's content creators and vice versa.
All of this has me thinking that we need to consider two things. Should we monetize the channel and should we try to add some sort of video to the show?
We are a very niche group, and only talk about one game. I don't know how many video views it takes to even accumulate a revenue, let alone the tax responsibility that might come with that. I'm not foolish enough to think that I could supplement any real income from it either, but paying Wiggychiggy back for that microphone and offering more prizes would be nice if it could possibly be accomplished. One of the things I really appreciate about all of you is that I have never once been accused of making this forum or the podcast out of greed. Neither has cost me a great deal, but I'm definitely out of pocket for some things. I don't have to worry about most of those costs now that the forum is official and Wiggychiggy has helped us out. Still though, more contests and prizes would be nice. It's all for the glory of IGA. Anyways, do you think we should monetize the YouTube channel or not and why? The show belongs to you, I'm just the dude trying to grow the community in ways that I can.
As for video during the show, I don't know if I like that idea or not. I have some experience in making some videos, but it's time consuming. It would delay the episodes at least on YouTube, and that's where people listen the most. Not all guests will be willing or able to record video, and recording myself won't be the most thrilling the in the world, especially for longer shows like we seem to have. Video of me speaking also limits my vocal edit freedom. So what other than a still image would fit well with what we are doing? Anything worth the effort? Let me know what you think, please.

I don't mind monetizing the podcast and all, the real problem is: YouTube Red isn't available outside USA, hence some of us wouldn't be able to... pay? Actually I have no idea how YouTube Red works, so well...

As for video during the show, I'd say no. Just displaying a fancy image on the youtube versions would be just fine.
First, there's all the reasons Mike listed (time-consuming, release delay, privacy issues, vocal freedom).
The main reason I like about podcasts is how the audio-only format allows me to multitask. Adding video annoys me. Probably more than it should.
When there's video, I always go "Come on, really?". Featuring video of the hosts staring into a screen and talking just seems boring to me and doesn't bring anything useful to the table. It feels like extra effort is being put into something purely for vanity. Even though I can just put the video in another tab and focus on something else... it still annoys me because I know I'm missing out on something and it's still there. When it's audio only (or there's just an image being displayed), I actually enjoy the experience more knowing I'm not missing out on anything.
Whenever video is actually used to bring something to the table in podcasts, such as situations with a lot of physical activity going on, amusing visual humor, and professional camera work and editing similar to an actual talk show, then at that point the podcast stops being a podcast and becomes just a normal show I have to sit down and dedicate time to watch in order to get the most out of enjoying it. I don't think there's enough time or resources to make something like that either.
Then there's the issue of length. Hearing people talk for an hour or more feels fine for me. Even with video being put to good/professional use, watching people talk for an hour or more feels tiring unless it's a TV show or movie.
As for money, I can see both sides of the argument. But I'm leaning towards not monetizing because of my gut feeling. Even though there's not a lot of money in it, monetizing a community-ran podcast could alienate listeners/other Bloodstained fans and make them ask "Why are you doing this?" or go "Come on, man," instead of bringing them together. I also think choosing not to make money off the podcast would be a classy move since it's promoted in the official updates. Plus, if someone big was asked to be a guest and the podcast made money I can see them asking "Why do you want me to be a guest for free if you're making money off the show?"

I agree with everything Goob just said. Hearing it all from someone else only strengthens my views. I had to ask myself if either of these things could help the community, but I don't think they will. I feel like I had to ask though, as I didn't want to pass up an opportunity without getting some other perspective first.

Monetize the channel in that someone would need to subscribe to Youtube Red to view the podcast? There isn't enough demand for the podcast. As you said, we are a small community and this is an new podcast focused on a single, unreleased game. All you're going to be doing is further shrinking the audience. Or have I totally misunderstood what you're proposing here?
As for video, I'd say forget it. I don't think there is much to gain and I imagine it is a ton of extra work for you.

Hey XombieMike, I agree with Goob 100%. He hit all the right points on the video and monetizing issues, but there's a couple more things I'd like to touch on to help you attract and even larger audience going forward. This is an official forum, these are official forum podcasts, and all of them should be published on the Official Youtube Channel instead of your own personal Youtube account. I can also support you by publishing the Youtube links on Facebook or by uploading the videos directly to the Operation Akumajo Page. Just let me know if I can help.

What about SoundCloud as well? It also has it's own kind of community that could be utilized for further exposure.

My only suggestion is to change some of the music. I've heard the main theme (as well as remixes, the battle theme, etc.) play multiple times in the first podcast I've listened to, episode 3, and I'd hate for what little music we have to wear thin by the time the game releases.
