I was just thinking about Miriam's crystal curse and it felt similar to something in a game so I tried for a while to think of what it was and I finally remembered... Anyone play Tales of Symphonia (possible spoilers ahead)? I played it years back with my little sisters (hurray local 4 player coop) and I just remembered that one of the characters was afflicted with Chronic Angelus Crystallus Inofficium which causes their body to slowly crystallize. What other games/movies/anime/books/comics/manga do you know of that involve a crystal curse and how was it implemented in the work? (I understand that this isn't focused solely on Bloodstained but I am hoping to see what possibilities there are for the application of the curse in this game. If it needs to be moved though I understand

This isn't really a curse, but I remember watching an episode of "The Magic School Bus" as a kid where everyone was on Pluto, Arnold removed his helmet, and his body instantly turned into frozen ice. By all means he should've died, but because it was a cartoon he lived.
There was also a recent episode of The Flash where The Flash straight-up killed a guy who could turn into sand by throwing a bolt of lightning at him, which turned him into glass, and his body fell over and shattered. At first I thought "oh, they'll probably bring him back for another episode because of superhero genre logic and because this guy is a lame version of the Spider-Man villain Sandman, who has survived worse," but an interview with the actor who played him said he was totally dead. One could argue that the ability to turn into sand is in some way a curse, but I think it sounds pretty cool except for the whole being straight-up killed with psuedo-science lightning thing.

That scene in The Magic School Bus where Arnold took his helmet off on Pluto gave me nightmares

I went to the page but all of the ones I read in anime and mythology were talking more about crystal production from a body, usually tears. (I would have clicked more but I need an addblocker to run that site) Can you direct me to a more Miriam style example? I'm sure there are some there but the site doesn't load well for me. T_T

T_T I was thinking the same thing. A lot of these entries don't even deal with turning bodies into crystals. Plus, they include tons of examples from anime shows I've never heard of and weird things like Neopets and the Archie Sonic comic, but they don't even mention the Magic School Bus example with Arnold (as of now)? Kinda lame. Damn straight. All Arnold's cousin Janet wanted was proof that she went to all the planets in the solar system. Then he had to ruin everything by not dying because it's a kid's show.

Are you implying that the proof she wanted was Arnold's dead body? I'm not sure. I haven't seen the episode since I was like, 8 or 9. But I remember a scene with Arnold getting angry at Janet and going "you want proof? I'll give you proof!" and then he took off his helmet and froze. But if Janet's overall goal was Arnold's dead, frozen body, I'd chalk it up as a victory. Ms Frizzle took the class to all sorts of cool field trips every day and all Arnold did was complain about everything. "Boo hoo, my class gets to go underwater and swim with microplankton to find out how the food chain works." "Aww lame, Ms Frizzle is making us get baked inside a cake and marijuana isn't even legal in my state yet." "Oh no, everyone is getting turned into mussels in some sort of weird creepy deviantart-esque field trip involving high and low tide." Everyone would be better off without him. His downer attitude was worse than Phoebe always comparing everything to her old school. At least she seemed amazed at everything like some sort of young version of Kimmy Schmidt from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Dark Souls' crystallization as related to Seath the Scaleless' search for power.
So, being the only not-immortal dragon, he tirelessly did research on trying to find a way to attain it. What ends up happening is he discovers some not-entirely-explained crystalline energy so powerful that it creates the crystal cave, golems, and affects some hollows (insane undead people) by coating them in it. The player can use crystalline spells as the most powerful offensive spells in the game, though an NPC (the most powerful mage in the lore) goes mad trying to get too far into it.
Ironically enough, you can attain some crystal-coated weapons as well, and they are quite powerful but can't be repaired. Not so immortal. Likewise, in the fight with Seath, he is invulnerable until you break his crystal in the back of the room.

Seath pretty much researched Dragon Scales, developed a crystal like substance from those (since he didn't have them) and basically created a Phylactery with it. A Phylactery being a term from Dungeons and Dragons for an object a Lich binds his soul to in order to achieve a false immortality. Since the body will restore itself until the object is first destroyed.
Like the Crystal housed in the back of the Crystal Cave.
But for the topic, as long as a full crystallized body is not something that happens when fulfilling Miriam's mission, then that will be alright. No need to reference FFXIII with this concept.
