Halloween Night is about 2 weeks away and Igarashi's team is awfully quiet.
We really haven't heard much about the Bloodstained development since the Kickstarter campaign ended. Considering most games are developed in secret, we're pretty lucky just to know it exists. Nonetheless, I'm hoping the next update has plenty of good news to share. Maybe we'll get news about a slacker backer campaign or an official website announcement, but I'd really like to see how the game itself is coming along.
Halloween seems like the perfect time for a big reveal. What do you think? Trick or Treat?

I think they are working out laying the groundwork for the game and are probably very busy right now. Given development is in it's early stages they are probably producing the map and working on the design of the castle itself. I imagine the first reveals will have to do with the castle design itself, populating it with placeholders and then once that is complete they will start to populate it with more unique enemies and weapons from the design team. The last thing they will likely do is finish the bosses, story and work on special moves and polish the gameplay. This is the order that most developers take when producing this type of game.

There's going to be an Inti Creates panel at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo where they'll talk about current projects (including Bloodstained) this weekend and I think that'll be a good opportunity for something, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by new details coming out of the blue than expect something and get disappointed.
There's also a PAX con in Australia going on during Halloween and that'd be a good time for a Bloodstained panel, but there's nothing related to the game or its developers on the con schedule.

Ya know cecil-kain, maybe you've inadvertently dropped an idea for Bloodstained. I hope someone who's creating the game (maybe the great IGA himself) notices this thread and incorporates the Trick or Treat enactment into Bloodstained. Perhaps a mischievous sprite (like an elf, goblin, witch, etc) could randomly appear in the game to confront Miriam with'Trick or Treat'. Does she trust the little blighter and treat it to something? Will she get a reward of some kind? Would the sprite turn into something nasty and make a full-on attempt to kill her should she refuse its request? Hmmm...

With Japanese developers often being so secretive and the language barrier, its hard to get a good grasp of how far along things are and how far they should be along. It's only been a few months since the campaign ended. I'm not necessarily in a super rush to see a ton of gameplay though at the same time, I remember the conversation during the campaign about backer feedback with regards to shaders and aesthetics and such. I'm curious as to when that is to take place. Not that I don't think they will do a good job but rather the earlier this feedback is given the better and a recent Inticreates crowdfunded game (Mighty No. 9) is suffering a lot of blowback for being not much of a "looker". I'd really like to avoid that fate for Bloodstained.

Stunning gothic visuals will reinforce their support and help Igarashi build the brand. Teaser footage would also be an excellent way to kick off a slacker backer campaign. There's no fire, but the sooner aesthetic issues are addressed the better.

Stunning gothic visuals will reinforce their support and help Igarashi build the brand. Teaser footage would also be an excellent way to kick off a slacker backer campaign. There's no fire, but the sooner aesthetic issues are addressed the better. Personaly I didnt mind the 2.5D I was more peeved in how shallow the enviroment was done, the stages in the background where pale and had no life in it whatsoever, The animation where non existend, mouths dont move when they talk, the cast where all static with the ocasionely moving arms going up and down, but thats abouth it...and also for Keji inafune he was more busy traveling around for investors/movies/meetings then actualy working on his new baby, made many including me i supose a bit bitter. Playing a alpha build and giving pointers then leave for the day while having a big fat cheque sure is a easy life for the man with a big name (wich is now more and more being ruinend atm)

Or are you talking about a more visible marketing push or some sort of "round 2" of campaigning, but without any stretch goals?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I always presumed the slacker backer campaign was going to be another big marketing push. Maybe Fangamer Steve can clarify this matter for us.

mmhm, and a pretty good one given the time period, the polys are a bit jagged nowadays, but they crammed a bunch of detail and uniqueness into each area, like konamiman standing on the arch sometimes before the rahab fight and little items added iin to collect (some require jumps that are a bit too precise, but they dont do this on the main path so pretty minor gripe)

I rather liked that one DXC was pretty bland looking and the animations were bad. I'm hoping this game is a HUGEEEEE step up from that.

Sorry for the double post but....
They should REALLY consider showing us the shaders or some sorta visual update. I mean it's been a while they must have some basics to show off, hell they had a test design that was done in a week. It'd be nice to know it's coming along well, because the previous updates didn't focus on development it focused more on odds and ends.

I'm guessing they're going to target halloween because it'll most likely be themed that way, IGA is a huge fan of Halloween. Wouldn't it be cool if we got a playable Halloween-themed prototype? Wishful thinking..

I'm guessing they're going to target halloween because it'll most likely be themed that way, IGA is a huge fan of Halloween. Wouldn't it be cool if we got a playable Halloween-themed prototype? Wishful thinking.. The Halloween update is going to be a special video message from IGA. "Hello, Army of the Night. We made a lot of progress this month. The whole team watched Halloween specials all month as part of pre-production research for Bloodstained. I especially enjoyed the Garfield one where he and Odie trick-or-treat, the Charlie Brown special with Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin and the extended sequence of Snoopy as a WWI pilot, and that Homestar Runner cartoon with the characters visiting your house for trick-or-treat, along with its spiritual sequel where Homestar is gathering ingredients for Marzipan's Halloween Potion by visiting the other characters. I always liked the Homestar Runner Halloween cartoons even though I can never recognize most of the character costumes. Some of you may be wondering "What about Halloween movies?" Unfortunately, we couldn't watch as many spooky movies as we could due to time restraints, so we mostly just settled on watching James Rolfe's 'Cinemassacre's Monster Madness' videos. I also hoped everyone could watch 'The Nightmare Before Christmas,' but most of the team said that was a Christmas movie instead of a Halloween one, so we compromised and we're saving that movie for Thanksgiving instead. We did, however, manage to watch 'Coraline', 'Corpse Bride', 'Frankenweenie', 'ParaNorman', and the Stephen King classic, 'Maximum Overdrive'. We were also hoping to fly in the Rifftrax crew to riff the Silent Hill movie that had Sean Bean for us, but we realized that would cut into our David Hayter money and ended up making fun of the movie ourselves. I would like to apologize to all of the fans who hoped I could get to meet Mike, Kevin, and Bill. This extensive Halloween research for Bloodstained was only made possible due to our Kickstarter backers and would not have been possible under a traditional publisher. *Ben Judd then whispers in IGA's ear.* I have to go, apparently there is a new Homestar Runner Halloween cartoon this year."

Two pieces of locations I really loved.
The giant fountain that turns to blood....hopefully they can make that location look a bit spookier but that looked great. I also liked the one with that spiraling looking staircase in the second pic in the front. Great art design
Next month shaders!
