If I could afford 4k I'd be all over it! yeah that's why I'm waiting for my tv to go down in price. Lol nice... but in truth I will be plugging my classic games into the tv... I know it won't make Mario into UHD but I still like classic my games

Yeah I wasnt trying to say 4k was dumb in thwt last post. Just that I personally only have a 24 inch screen so I doubt Id notice (if the sfreen could even handle 4k which of course it cannot).
And im one of those people with a CRT tv still lol.
I WANT a better tv but cashes are an issue.

yeah I know what you mean, the cheapest ones I can find are in the $300-$500 range... a lot to spend for a monitor.. I was going to get a monitor too but decided against it... a semi-decent 4k monitor (that doesn't run hdmi 2.0 by the way) cost roughly $400... I'll just connect my (future) laptop to my (future) tv viva hdmi (sadly the laptop will only be hdmi 1.4 compatible oh well.. I would think 2 NVIDIA® GTX 980M could handle 4k at 60fps) but yeah if you are gonna get a new monitor get one that you'd be happy with. And if you go for a 4k display do a lot of research... a lot of companies are selling "snake oil" and people are gobbling it up thinking they are getting true 4k screens.

If I get a new monitor it wontbe 4k until after 4k becomes standard because technology tends to NOSEDIVE in cost once something becomes standard for a couple months

Prob cuz they keep bundling it with special edition formats including games no collector cares about like nhl20xx
But thats not what I mean by standards in technology. I mean more broad like digital photography, blu-ray, SSD, etc.

I saw some 4K tvs on display in a Wal-mart this past weekend. I paused briefly to check it out and it definitely looked really really good, but I couldn't tell much difference between it and say a blu-ray playing on my 1080p tv at home. I was about 5' away. It had some nature scene playing as a demo. Probably some designed-for-4k-demos thing. Anyway, thought I would mention here that 4k tvs have made there way to backwoods Wal-mart stores. It's the first time I've seen them in a Wal-mart around here.

Some 4k panels only play upscaled 1080p content... and maybe stream 4k videos. it's stupid but it is designed to lure anyone trying to get into the 4k "craze" but didn't do their research.

But I really want to know though, Is it really necessary for Bloodstained to be in 4K? and I know in the next 2 years or so, 4K resolution maybe will become the standard in the living room. But for a platforming game to be 4K, that seems kinda overkill for me, though I want to see the game to be supported in 4K

Why is that such a big deal?... I think if they paint the background they can scan it in and use real artwork as the background... and yes in 4k. The technology is out there and they should use it. but again, if Iga doesn't do this I know he will still make an awesome game.

Also realize how monitor speed works. a 120 hz 1080 native display is going to respond faster than a 120 hz 4k display every single time and with less blur. I don't know if its even a smart idea to consider building a game for 4k resolutions when our current monitors unless you really do your research can be laggy little shits all by themselves. ASUS and BenQ are pretty good places to start looking for monitor options but damn if 4k isn't still expensive. We'll probably see 4k resolution be standard about the time 10k resolution becomes where 4k is now in a couple of years. Then it'll all be the "oh god yes 10k" without a single thought to how bad the response time will be on those monstrosities.
That said it's also relevant to actual physical size of the monitor so i guess a 10k monitor at about 22-24" could be possible to have extremely low response time / input lag / motion blur but i certainly wouldn't jump on it early. BIG gamble.

Yes 4k (and all) TVs have input lag ... but even the controller itself has input lag (if you play wireless, even more so).
Anyway back to the point. Most if not all modern tv's have "game mode" or "PC" (which is sometimes better than game mode... aaaand sometimes worse lol). Game mode or PC mode shuts down all the "extra processing" your tv does naturally (or should I say by default). Now to be fair there are TVs that do this well and there are TV's that don't do this so well. eg The Vizio M Series 2015 has a 18.5ms (millisecond) lag while the Sharp UB30U has 79.7ms lag... but does the Vizio have great features, does it even have hdmi 2.0? I don't know I didn't do research on that set... just looked up it's lag time.
and most people have been playing their games without using "game mode"or "pc mode" so I doubt input lag will effect those players.
so as I have said before do a lot of research on your tv if you are planing on getting a 4k (or any tv) when you are going to buy a new set. (I did MONTHS of research before I decided on my future tv)
Back to the input lag, if you have a tv set with 30-40ms of lag most gamers won't even notice, unless you are playing call of duty, or anything kind of game where every millisecond counts (FPS, fighting games... fast reflex games or "twitch" games) and even then it is hardly noticeable... the players that play the games I just mentioned will really start to notice at 50ms and 70-100ms forget about it...
Now if you play RPGs and games that don't need hard core precision then even 50ms should be ok for you... and those players won't even notice the lag. I doubt Bloodstained will be a "twitch" type game. So I don't think it's a "big of a gamble".

I doubt Bloodstained will be a "twitch" type game. So I don't think it's a "big of a gamble". Bold / underline explain a great deal of my gaming past outside platformers... Tons of both on top of being a "tournament level" Unreal Tournament and Soul Calibur player in my youth. that said... Opinions are what they are but its as big of a drawback for those guys who come from "Twitch" backgrounds who will be annoyed by that the most. I'm not arguing against Bloodstained being 4k compatible. I'm simply pointing out something that I've been dealing with since Monitors took over most TV's in performance since like 2005-ish. To the point where I've tailored most of my gaming experiences around the idea of minimizing that kind of delay. Not just that some companies take ques from this and one particular BenQ was working with the FGC and EVO organizer to get the most minimal delay monitor they could produced and it was used IIRC for this years EVO. If you're playing something turn based, or a "relaxed" game (which to be honest I'm not entirely sure what would be classified as such because from my point of view no game can sustain a disconnecting delay between you and what you're doing without irritation setting in somewhere) then yeah I can see it having no actual effect. Its also not just the monitor, that's true. If you compare say Dark Souls and Bloodborne, the former is crisp and clean while latter has a delay in just about everything you do. It's one of the most irritating things I deal with in that game because apparently it's built into its game engine. No Castlevania title has suffered from noticeable delay that I've heard of or experienced, so it goes to reason that Bloodstained would follow suit with crisp clean gameplay. I don't expect unreasonable standards, just crisp control. I also didn't mean these post to sound vitriolic. Text sucks at inferring.

Actually I'm rather enjoy our conversation, I like how you state your argument and not just down the previous post. sorry about the bold and underlining thing it just seemed like all that writing started becoming a glob of numbers and letters... I wanted somethings to stick out (I mean did you read those tv models? to me they looked confusing without the underling),
And I agree if, you are a gamer that's use to single digit lag times then yeah "any" tv screen won't be a good choice for your gaming experience... cause even HDTVs (1080p tvs) have double digit lag times. one of the lowest is sony and it's around 16ms...
So if lag times matters to you then of course you won't game on a regular TV... but for many console gamers, that have been gaming on tvs forever, lag time just doesn't matter (within reason.. reason being between 20-50ms).

It should be noted though that game mode doesn't usually solve the problem. If it were that simple, we wouldn't need to buy Asus and BenQ monitors to play any game competitively...because that's pretty much how it is. If a tournament doesn't have acceptable models from those two companies, it's probably not an actual tournament lol. I researched televisions to where I settled on a good 37" Panasonic, but finding things like that is pretty difficult, and especially was back when I got it since displaylag.com didn't exist yet iirc, and that little stat still isn't advertised. They'll talk about things like refresh rate on gaming monitors, but that's not the same thing...
Anyway, yeah, 4k would be cool. I just don't know if it'd be worth the extra time and work for this relatively small team. Not only do they not have experience in that, but hardly anyone else does yet either. It'd make it even more of an issue for Armature to do the Vita and Wii U ports. I imagine 4k will be a thing for Western games for a while before Japan tries. We're much bigger tech nuts as far as graphical fidelity.

Yup there are stupid companies that designs their tvs to turn off "game mode" every time you turn off the tv set, so you have to turn game mode back on every time (face palm). but those sets are usually not aimed toward gamers.
I cannot stress this enough, do research before getting a new tv set or monitor.
Thank you, that is the first "reason to not do 4k" argument, that is valid (imo)... (did that last sentence make sense?) anyway, isn't 4k just scaling up and adding more detail? (I could be completely wrong about this) and when they port it to the Vita and WiiU, won't they just need to scale it down? and if they make the game in 1080p won't they have to scale it down to vita's resolution anyway?
anyway I will not sit here and pretend I know what goes into game design, I don't know if 4k that much harder to create than 1080p, I can just speculate (see my speculations above) but that's it... all I'm saying is it would be really cool to see the game we backed, polished, to be the best looking game possible (for its time)... and if that means keeping the game in 1080p I am fine with that... but if it means putting in the extra work to make it 4k then I am fine with that too.

(TL;DR) If nothing else (delay aside) imagine the horsepower you have to produce 4k for and the small audience that would actually benefit from it. (PC). Neither of the current 8th Generation consoles (PS4 / Xbone) are remotely capable of 4k resolution. That's a big job for a bout 1/3rd maybe slightly less of your potential audience... but who cares about economics here, we're enthusiast so lets get on to the actual "problem" (its not really a problem) with 4k resolutions right now. First things first just read the first part about UHD and 4k. If you already know the numbers and resolutions just ignore this. = en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resolution That said 4k is around 50% larger than your average 1080p, rocking the scales for sake of this argument at 3840 x 2160, the native "4k" youtube resolution. vs the 1920 x 1080 everyone is already familiar with. While the first comparison here deals with benefits and economics this numbers game is a whole different monster. Consider a graphics card for a PC with 256m DDR4 ram /w about 4gigs of memory may or may not like 4k, its really up in the air, and even if the card does do "4k" it's going to suffer in performance depending on graphic fidelity and how Bloodstained is programmed to operate in the first place. All in all doing this in native 4k would be out of the question simply based on presumed power of the rigs involved. I'm currently building a PC the specs aren't finished but essentially its likely going to run the combo of I7-6700k, GTX 980 ti, 16g DDR4 3200 ram. At least that's the plan. That rig would be able to handle 4k I'm fairly certain but that's also about 2000 USD by the final build. Could a 4k box be built cheaper, I'm sure. but just as an example that's what I'm looking at by comparison for future growth and to run 1080 absolutely flawlessly. The market for 4k is out there, that's not in question. But the market as it sits for native is going to be small even by PC guy standards who are literally the only guys who are allowed to care since the consoles are already outdated and in the end game designers can choose graphic power or expansive game design based on what they're building. That said I don't see why Bloodstained specifically would even have that problem in the first place based on that particular "rig" because the 4k shown and effects probably wont be the far side of ridiculous as I've noticed from the past that Iga milks subtlety for all its worth and takes a detailed yet not over the top approach. To be fair though, we all really have no idea how the games engine itself will scale and what may happen to up-scaling technology from now to release... It is due in "2017". (writing that date made my inner cyberpunk squee a bit... I want my robot body damnit!)

Is there some way of measuring how many ms of lag you get or something? 50ms sounds like an eternity... Im pretty sure that even 10ma would make me pull my hair out when im playing a shmup, I absolutely cannot play them without a vsync off patch.
