Nowaday smartphones are the "Standard" of mobile phones. I heard some people starting aiming to create more mobile games...
Everytime I try a mobile game, I'm like "meh... it's just for killing time". Controls can be annoying sometime because you are touching a flat touchscreen instead of buttons.
PC/console games have more gameplay and challenges compare to mobile games.
Do you think mobile games are overrated?

Angry Birds is legit.
If it requires micro transactions in order to progress, or progress at a decent pace, then it's shit.

I personally think they're just time wasters and I really don't care for the all touch controls, yes you can hook a controller up to it, but I'd rather use my Vita.

Given that like 99% of the gamers I know don't treat mobile gaming as a serious gaming platform, I fail to see how it can be overrated when so many people's opinions on it is already on the bottom...
Of course they are highly 'rated' in terms of how many users they have and such.
The reason for this is simply because (IMO) that videogames are no longer stigmatized by the masses as being some amoral brain-rotting child-only hobby like it was 20 years ago...However, the same 'masses' though willing to give games a fair chance now still don't really think of themselves as gamers, so they don't really go out of their way to buy a gaming console, or build a pc with games in mind, or even think about playing games on their pc if it's capable when they have time off at home. They just grab a game on the one platform virtually everyone has anyway because that's what's available on the cheap for someone who really doesn't care for the most part.
I'm pretty sure that's most of your mobile gaming audience there, and I don't think they rate mobile gaming 'highly', so much as something that's just there to do while waiting or whatever instead of picking your nose or reading 10 year old magazines left in the waiting room.

The people whom mobile games are marketed towards mostly view them as addictive distractions to play when waiting at the DMV or at bus stops or something like that. They don't exactly care that much about quality. It helps, but it's not a priority. Then again, this is from a guy who's bought 1 mobile game, Steven Universe, and I found it to be one of the best....just for emulating JRPGs of old.

Strangely enough, a game review in my local newspaper said almost the exact same thing about Final Fantasy Tactics Advance when it first came out. I don't have any ill will towards mobile gaming. There's an audience that enjoys them, I'm glad they're having fun with their games, and I enjoy a few games myself. But it would be nice if there was more of a push for substantial games that didn't rely on timers/stamina meters, microtransactions, or inviting friends to progress or gain advantages.

This... there is no need for mobile games to have these god-awful concepts like stamina meters, RL time timers, etc... Drives me up the wall that they're so damn common.. ugh.

You won't be seeing that push anytime soon. The main platform for these games is Android, which is hilariously easy to pirate on. Freemium models and microtransactions are the only way to make an actual profit.

A more interesting topic imo would be if they're -under- appreciated, lol. I would generally assume anything loosely related to console gaming (us/Bloodstained) as a community would despise mobile games.
I'm not a fan of it, but it works. I've actually been "playing" Puzzle & Dragons. Here's the thing about that game:
You can play it without spending any money, forever. And I pretty much do mean forever because it doesn't end. There's essentially no progress. It's a grinding collection game that you can pay to get stuff faster, but once you get your stuff, there's only more stuff. No characters, no story, no variance in music even (ugh). BUT, you're highly encouraged to sign in every day, and there's a chance you'll get something neat out of the in-game gashapon machine you get to use from other people using your monsters as helpers. Other players can see if you've been active or not, so they'll keep "friend lists" for assists of people who are active, and you're cut if you're not.
It very carefully reels you in like this, causing you to at least sign in with regularity and a lot of the time likely not even play. I'm at a point now where I would either need to drop cash or study the game and develop the strongest strategy possible, but for the latter there's no real incentive to that - I'll just be in that same situation again until I stop playing.
Basically, they work off of casual addiction. Something easily accessed you can open up, play for 0-5 minutes, and has the promise of being occasionally interesting. The main thing going for it probably is that I have a good friend who is very high level at it that likes to talk about his strats, teams etc, but eh...being a big fighting game guy myself, it's like...why? It's not competitive, you're not really getting anywhere in a story. It's essentially just a battle system, drops and randomness. There is skill and thinking, which I think is why (along with all its crossovers) it has been so successful in Japan.
The worst thing about it is the minimization it does to gaming. It becomes a casual, on-the-go affair. It's not something you can attach or immerse yourself emotionally into, just something you might keep playing just to get a possibly get a better thing. It's pointless gambling.

I can`t play smartphone games anymore. There are no games I like, that would have good controls, except some puzzle games (for which touch control is suitable). I am busy with other things in life to even find time for gaming on Wii U or DS. I haven`t opened mobile games for a year or two. I hope we will still get consoles and handhelds, with normal controllers. Virtual reality games also sound interesting, even though I see myself as "old school" gamer forever. I like my 2D platformers (like Castlevania, DKC, Super Mario) with controllers in hand (shord vs. whip vs. controller..I know my pick, haha..)

I would say it really depends on the type of games. I like for people to enjoy what ever makes them happy but there are a few mobile games that are very popular but are extremely generic too much so to be so over rated. There are many mobile games I really enjoy playing and it is a nice time killer here and there.

I haven't touched the games on my phone ever since I bought myself a 3DS. Yeah, so many modern gamers seem to scoff at portable consoles, often because they think the screen is too small. but fact is their screens aren't that small because you stick them like 1-2 feet away from your face while a monitor is much further, so the actual 'screen covering your total vision' ratio is really about the same IMO unless you're one of those people who have like 3 monitors or a 50 inch monitor or something. I got a 3ds myself, then later a vita, and people love to hate on the vita, but surprisingly I'm enjoying it about the same, people really dont' know what they're missing.
