The main gist of this panel was going into what it took to run this campaign and make it an actual success. I transcribed most of the key points and grouped them by topic below: Before the Campaign
- Miriam was a Frankenstein/Golem/Homonculous type creature > became a Human & Cursed character - easier to relate to her
- Miriam started off with a more "sexy" design to show off skin for the Curse > design shifted to the current, more modest one
- Game was a globetrotting adventure (a more publisher friendly model to add DLC) > Main locale moved to a Castle (for the fans)
- The success of Mighty No. 9 helped Ben convince Iga to jump the Konami ship
- They went to all sorts of publishers for a year but ultimately got the runaround
- Kickstarter model works for games that appeal to small but passionate fanbases which made it a good model for this game
- They were worried that 2014 was a down year for Kickstarter. Could Bloodstained get the money it needed in such an environment?
Campaign Tips
- Try & consider weird stuff in planning but don't get attached to anything
- Everything you do for the campaign should make things better for the backers
- All sides (production, merchandise, etc.) have to work together to make enticing but realistic stretch goals
- Plan MONTHS ahead
- Make meaningful updates that backers will want to read
- Respect the backers – fans take cues from you. You get snippy with them, they will respond in kind
- Help build the fandom (something in place for the game to launch into)
- Talk to fans, make them feel appreciated and happy
Sword vs Whip
- Genesis of the idea was to be a small teaser site
- This site was put together in a weekend and ended up being key in getting feedback to adjust the campaign before it even launched.
- The discussions online that followed were watched & influenced stretch goals and manner in which campaign was written.
The Campaign Launches!
- 30 “FUNDED!” images were made for each day of campaign. They didn't know when they would get fund & were stunned things went so well
- They all made bets on total money raised at the end, EVERYBODY lowballed
- Inticreates & Fangamer put in a lot of time & effort into the campaign (before and during), Main artist ran ragged
- Meetings were held quickly after launch to make strong but realistic stretch goals. What were before dreams that had a chance now?
Customize!
- “Customize” system is announced and allows you to manipulate parts of Miriam's outfit and overall look. These changes may influence stats as well
- More creative collaborations between IPs in game are teased with the Customize system.
- For example, the bottom right outfit in the art is a Gunvolt reference
Future of Kickstarter
- Shout out to the new crowdfunding site FIG
- Ben teases that more Publisher-backed Kickstarters are coming........ (some new IPS, some old IPs reborn?)
- Konami licensing out some of its IPs out to others? Can't tell if Ben knows something or I've misinterpreted what he said
Finally, a new "Ask IGA" is also coming soon to make up for the fact the Q&A session was cut short

i think Ben made more of a prediction than a statement, based on other publishers leasing out their ips to keep internal costs down and publishers using crowdfunding to test the waters instead of dumping a ton of money into mass marketing to convince you you need this now also Igachievements

The stream has been archived on twitch, but it got mislabeled as an FF15 panel and the IGA panel actually starts 10 minutes into the video. The video says it lasts 4hrs 30min, but the panel itself is just an hour.

The customization system seems quite nice, i tought about that during the campaign since Miriam has a fully 3D model but for some reason did not pay much atention to it, it could have been a campaign goal for the very earliest goals. Anyway now i will be wondering what customizations will be available, there will be dozens of it or just some key ones? What about unlockable customizations gained after some in-game event (maybe secret), or also new customizations with updates. Anyway, everyone love to customize their characters, so that's great news. And yes i still want more info, in-game screenshot please!

Just finished watching the stream - awesome work, guys! It was fun. Thanks to crocodile for the summary. I like that ponytail/glasses combo picture on the left. My avatar already has glasses so I might change it to that... And when Iga was touching his hat after the question concerning it (I wonder if the achievement came from my question in the other thread), I was like "COME ON, DO IT" even though I had already read Astaroth's IGAchievements list. Maybe next time!

Ben might have been talking about the Castlevania animated series. Or did he mention that it was for games in particular?

Awesome summary! This also makes me get more hyped and excited. I think this kind of panel really made its best work to convince that having a passionate fanbase still means a lot to game developers thanks to KS and the active backers. I liked that point there that their plan included to listen to the backer fans and respect them. That creates positive environment and more active army of the night. I couldn't help but still feel negative towards the fact that Mighty No. 9 had some negative scandal in the community about less than two years ago when they made some random and not that passionate person a representative between Inafune/Comcept and backers. That created too much of a mess and troublesome bitter feelings towards the project for many. I still think some people haven't got over it while the game is some months near to come out. I hope that IGA and others play their cards better and keep that positive respect towards our army. Awwww.. Now I feel my thoughts got a bit sidetracked but couldn't resist to throw a comment.

Don't worry, I'm sure we all want that healthy and positive relationship between the team and the fans. It's great that they addressed how much importance they place in that, as getting a Dina-like Community Manager or them handling things the Inafune way of would be atrocious.

If you get a chance to do it, see a panel at a big con like PAX. It's one thing to view a panel online, but waiting and mingling in line with other fans, sharing a sense of camaraderie in a room packed with 500+ or 1000+ other people, and viewing everything yourself is a whole different experience. Announcements and reveals become much more exciting and everyone around you is just as excited as you are. Just having all those people actually there gives you such a larger idea of how big the community is and the number of fans out there becomes more than just a statistic or usernames behind a monitor. I have a feeling the Bloodstained devs and folks at Fangamer will want to capture as much goodwill from the campaign and PAX panel and have that going on all the time. But it's also up to the fans and backers to participate and make the type of community they want to see. Also, does anyone have any idea of how many people attended the IGA/Bloodstained panel at PAX? I don't think I've seen any info on that anywhere.

That customize system.... WOW... such beauty, WOW... This sounds like a dogememe lol. But for real. Goob is right about panels/being somewhere live for announcements. It's like that at Evo for Capcom stuff. I think they're already doing better than any of the other KS projects I've been involved with and are on a good track to keep it up. Honestly, not a whole lot at this point could happen to turn me off, save the game somehow not being an Igavania, which I don't think I have to worry about :x

I'm really looking forward to see other stuff like that Plague Mask Part of me is really hoping it extends to other things that go on her like...armor or cloaks...but if not it's okay, at least they did SOMETHING. The Plague Mask is very cool and fits the times, knowing how castlevania was and how many head gear pieces you got... I'm looking forward to all the cool things we will see.

I can safely assume that, although the image only shows Miriam's outfit in different colors, the game will let us change her entire outfit and we won't be limited to palette swaps for everything below her neck. And as someone who likes prim and proper outfits, I do hope there's an option to put her in formal wear. (Suits, etc.)
Wouldn't be surprised if the Wii U version of the game has special Nintendo outfits where you can dress Miriam up as Link, Zelda, Samus, and etc. I mean, who wouldn't want to hack their way through a castle of darkness while in Mario's overalls? Perhaps Nintendo costumes could work in a system akin to Super Mario Maker's costumes. Amiibos let you unlock the content painlessly, non-amiibo owners can unlock them via an in-game method.

Fire Emblem and Legend of Zelda items could easily be inserted without being strange (I never had the chance to play FE, but I know character that appeared on Brawl). Also if we remember, SotN featured some mushrooms and a Ape Skeleton that throws barrels like in Donkey Kong.

Listening on Bloodstained Podcast - bloodstainedfanforums.com/thread/2439/bcb-15-2017-news-demoAnd I googled "Customize!" after hearing you guys talking about a plague mask, and found the forums for the actual image. Did not know about this. So.. How would these work? Just head-pieces? Do we have new data on this? Cool!
