I practiced for many hours, trying to perfect this on a controller. I found it to be somewhat easier on a keyboard but I don't want to play like that. The input is to backdash and cancel with down button on dpad. This makes you go a lot faster when done correctly repeatedly. Alas, there's no such thing as me successfully perfecting this input, it's simply too hard for me, and I believe that it is too hard for the many. After those hours, my solution was to put backdash on right bumper (I did that initially to ease the alternation process) and put it on turbo. That way I only need to successfully make one input; this greatly alleviates the difficulty of using this feature and makes it much more fun practicing double attacking from backdash and moving around in the game. This should, in my opinion, be default. If I hold down the backdash, I should be able to cancel it continously by pressing down. It also alters the way high jump works, a side effect that is more or less desireable. It's fun that it bursts more but it is dubious if that's a useful thing really.
