I hope inti creates fixes the 100 dinput8.dll calls returning a function error resulting in micro stutters every ~2 seconds.

Played this for a few hours and have to say the game is fun but very challenging. Just cleared the boss of the stage that has the dinosaur remains and the boss was certainly no cake walk.
Not sure if the difficulty rises to the level of Dracula X on the SNES but it feels close.
Stages and enemy variety are excellent. The only thing that isn't quite as good as part 1 is the soundtrack. Haven't cleared the game to check but I'm pretty sure that Michiru Yamane wasn't involved with this game.

I'm at the beginning of stage 5 now, and so far I've lost a character twice - once Robert and I revived him with Dominique, and a second time vs Vepar. I think the difficulty is quite fair/good so far, and much easier than old Castlevania games still. I played through JP and NA CV3 lately and lol it's not in the same category as that. Hachi on his own is pretty busted, and if one of your allies gets hurt or even dies, you can bring them back...having checkpoints...and making your own health drops. yeah lol

I'm roughly halfway through my first playthrough of the game on the Switch (I'm currently in Episode 1 Stage 6, on veteran difficulty) and so far I've got mixed feelings about the game after spending about 3 hours with it. I've mainly been playing in handheld mode so that (and maybe some rust since it's been a while since I played a classic CV style game) might have a little something to do with why I have mixed feelings (so far), though I can say that there is (so far) at least one stage that I absolutely hate. Which is stage 5 (it seriously can go f**k itself) cause it kept f***ing me up real good (complete with some, IMO, really cheap hits that I couldn't dodge no matter how hard I tried) and after at least 3 continues (w/4 lives for each continues and each continue requiring me to restart the stage from the very beginning) I (somehow) managed to get through it by pulling a victory against the stage boss (who was at full health) out of my @$$ despite going into it with just Zangetsu at less than half health, the shield power-up w/about half magic, and no lives left.

Something I've been curious is if having all of these players and options, while good for replay value, would make the game experience feel less consequential and less focused. I don't know one way or another, just throwing it out there. Not sure if the difficulty rises to the level of Dracula X on the SNES but it feels close. Come on, Dracula X SNES isn't that bad. Then again, I've played the heck out of it.

I didn't think Dracula X was that bad either haha. It's been a long time, but even Dracula I just remember having to be patient.

I don't know one way or another, just throwing it out there. I've heard conflicting opinions on this, but based on what I've played of the game so far I'm gonna say no cause Stage 5 alone feels like parts of it were specifically designed for certain characters and if you didn't use them (or don't use them the right way) for that section you essentially got boned really hard as I found out for myself and based on what I've heard about/read in reviews for the game two of the game's unlockable episodes have a slightly different focus than the first episode.

Dracula X is actually one of my favorite CV games. It isn't unbeatable by any means but in terms of trial and error it's certainly harder than SC4 but still easier than the NES titles or CV Chronicles. Having completed episode 1 of CotM2 I still think that the Dracula X comparison is fair at least for stages 5 and onward.
To me it seemed that the first 4 stages were designed as tutorials, one for each of the characters in receiving order. Then from stage 5 and onward, the game expects you to have mastered them and really puts your skills to the test. Again, not unbeatable but in terms of trial and error very similar to Dracula X in my opinion. Would be interested to hear your thoughts once you've played the game.
On a different note, after having seen the game's credits, I can confirm that Michiru Yamane wasn't involved in the game as expected. The tracks still fit the stages but to me the music isn't in the same league as CotM1 or any console CV title I can remember. While the spike in difficulty doesn't quite make up for Yamane's talents it at least sets the game apart from its predecessor and doesn't make you feel like you're playing an inferior sequel.
Looking forward to spending more time with the game and seeing what episode 2 hast to offer.
Edit: Boss Rush Mode scheduled for release on July 16. See youtube trailer (spoiler warning).

Yamane's contribution to even the first game was limited to songs that are Inti arrangements of her existing RotN compositions. Most of the rest of them were completely Inti Creates (it's about 10 Yamane-written songs, 30 of theirs - with her actually doing nothing herself for the game besides them arranging that existing RotN music). vgmdb.net/album/84936Also, having beaten episode 1 now myself last night, it definitely gets tougher, but the options your characters get are also quite strong. It feels maybe on the same level as a Mega Man X game in difficulty - if you utilize all your upgrades, weapons, armors, etc it's doable. If you don't collect or use those things, you'll have a hard time on the first go for sure haha Me for instance, I realized I skipped an "attack up" powerup at the boss of the stage it was in, and was noticing I wasn't doing enough damage to the boss. When I got the game over and went back through the stage, I was like OH, right lol.

purifyweirdshard Proper resource utilization is key in this game no doubt; especially in episode 2 where the bosses get tougher. For example I had a hard time against the level 6 boss in ep2 until I tried using Robert's spear throw to neutralize the second and third floor archers and then the boss became very manageable. Kind of like how the axe sub-weapon is your best friend for the final boss battle in CV Dracula X you mentioned. And yeah I wouldn't recommend skipping any power up items lol. Unless you're one of those guys that chose extra hardship in Sekiro... Very fun game overall. Starting ep3 today which should be a lot of fun. PS: I think I may have have found another boss that may have been cut from RotN. CotM2 ep2 final boss spoilers ahead (you have been warned). I remember there was this video where Angel was sitting next to someone playing RotN before launch and Angel made a reference to additional lore being revealed shortly about the figure in the background of the save room. We never got it in RotN but it sure made its way into CotM2. Unless of course he makes an appearance in Chaos Mode or is a boss in the 3rd playable character mode

Well purifyweirdshard you *did* want to play as Dominique; this probably isn't quite how you wanted things to pan out but it's better than nothing, right?
