"Maybe" indeed, here's my opinion nobody asked for:
This is not far from what I've been expecting - a new/different genre for the series because for varying reasons classicvania and metroidvania won't work for Konami. However, "open world" was one of the last things I wanted to hear.
But that in itself also makes it less believable - this would be an enormous game, with a playable field big enough for a castle to roam around in and have horse transportation. I don't buy that Konami would drop Metal Gear Solid 5 money, let alone FFXV money, to take such a big gamble on something that would take so much work, time, budget, and...well, risk itself.
If they do, the likelihood seems small that it would be good. I don't know who this studio would be, but I'm not aware of many independent/mid-size developers that do open world games like this. Something of importance would have to be compromised. I also really hope that the original CV3 designs and lore/canon would be used instead of Netflix's, but that doesn't seem like it'll be the case with the castle teleporting and capitalizing on the popularity in general.

Pretty much what I'm thinking too. The last major non-mobile release (Contra) was a disaster, even if they make another Vania it will likely be terrible.

You summoned me?
New Castlevania game, you say? Wait...*reads squad-based, skill trees, blah blah...* What a miserable pile of secrets!
Here's the thing, I could go for open world in the vein of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but done via the lens of Simon's Quest. That I would be very excited for, and it seems like an obvious route to take. You'd have the villages with sub-quests, power-up items to find, whip-cracking action, and the mansions could provide some nice platforming/traps. The world could have some interesting cursed area aspects to it, too, playing up the stuff like the tornado or ferryman from the original game but in the context of open world. Maybe that's what this "leak" is insinuating, but when FFXV gets mentioned, it doesn't seem like it. I start to picture something with the Castlevania brand slapped on top of it. As it is, the Netflix series seems to be distorting the brand a bit. The new season trailer, despite its technical merits and the obvious passion put into it, has the feel of some generic fantasy epic.
