I was still in a university, when I heard about Igarashi's Kickstarter campaign I immediately formed the preparation requirements of backing the project and backed it without further hesitation despite lacking of credits (only managed to gather $45 and chose the $28 tier). My initial motivation was a "thank you" to him for bringing Castlevania Chronicles to PlayStation One, which was my all-time-favorite side scrolling action game and actually led me into retro video gaming genre.
When I saw the concept art material at the KS page, BBS/forum sites, etc. I was really hyped and can't wait to give it a try during the state that this game was still at the direction to be looked exactly like those concept art materials designed by Inti Creates. "Oh man Igarashi team and Inti Creates came together? this was the hype of all time! THE Dream Combination!" Of course I saw the promises at the KS page was a little unrealistic but I believed the strongest dream combination would come across them without that much problem - at least not consuming whole five years to pull it out.
Then the wind had been un-significantly shifted. When played through the demos at the time its information was spreading all over the Internet I didn't sense anything really that outstanding despite the control scheme was the as-promised Igarashi-team class. And it's the seemingly endless waiting, as two Castlevania: Lecarde Chronicles fan-made titles filled the empty spots without a side scrolling action game title made by pure blood Igarashi team or "fit my channel" and they are made especially memorable beyond the free games I experienced.
The semi- Metroidvania genre steps into a long, horrible night when information from KS campaign and Igarashi team became fewer and fewer, some teams/companies made fellow titles with similar play styles, all have some sparking spots but the genre always seem a bit inconsistent and disorder without a "lead", but as a lead FINALLY returns, I can't held my disappointment despite I still enjoy the final result in some way. There's almost nothing like the scene with sunset clouds? behind the window at concept art materials which I loved, as everything was heavily revamped/altered during the process so that idea for a scene may have been discarded. Shame. The rest was just the as-promised Igarashi-team-made Metroidvania despite I can't seem to find any factor for it to reclaim their past glory - more like an anniversary for core fans of their late titles (Dawn of Sorrow, etc.). At this point my secondary motivation - to adventure through the scene appeared on concept art material - lost forever.
Even though the sunset cloud scene on the concept art maaterial may only be a good memory for us, I'm still glad I was hyped for it and I'm still proud to be a (rather minor though and didn't slip into the "clans") backer of the project.

I also loved the promotional sunset artwork, and was sad to not get a castle corridor area with visuals like that. I still like the game we got though!

Konami threw its gaming division under the bus, and I wanted more CV style games. It wasn't just Castlevania either, several franchises and subgenres were being left to rot, so at the time crowdfunded projects were the only game in town.

Vote with wallet, to:
1 Show big companies that killing off "good old", retro style games/genres, is WRONG! Likewise, that such projects aren't only viable, but actually widely acclaimed, praised, successful, in high demand and BIG!
2 Say; "Konami, i HATE YOU and i don't trust you anymore"!!!
3 Get a proper Castlevania. Additionally, get a proper Castlevania on PC, which is and sounds much, much better, honestly!
4 Directly funding developer and aiding indie companies.
5 Expectations for the future. It sells well? We might get MOAR, from where it came from!!!
And most importantly, prove to every rotten, mainstream businessman who only cares about numbers, that in art (videogames is a form of art), vision, passion and dedication, really pays off and should be rewarded!
Now, complete this project and let us all party BIG!!!
But i have 2 problems that didn't sit well, with me:
a Curse of the Moon, suddenly taking a dump on the DRM-Free crowd b Digital extras, aren't included in Steam/GOG package and soundtrack is standalone install, instead of a key to redeem in aforementioned services

I funded the game because I thought Iga was better than Konami.

Because Iga and his team make good games. Konami was letting him do those games so I forked some cash on the hope this would turn out to be a good game.
And it is. And I hope both its Kickstarter and sales success gives him the clout he deserves and actually gets a sequel running much easier than Bloodstained was. It must've been fucking hard for him to get this off the ground since no one was willing to properly support him since day 1.
Hoping he makes more Bloodstained games and maybe work with Konami again for Castlevania here and there.

Three reasons, really:
1.) I wanted a new Castlevania game, and Classicvania and Metroidvania game modes were both being offered, which made me happy. 2.) I wanted to see what IGA would do with more freedom and budget. 3.) I wanted to have the experience of being involved with the development of a video game.

1- I liked this style of game play and I didn't wanted to see it gone. I like the Castlevania series and although I liked the classic style , I like these exploration based more because I also like the Metroid series. 2- I wanted a special rare copy. (I tried to convince the team to print a rare copy for us with at least holographic hue but I failed.) 3- I wanted to see what Koji Igarashi could do without Konami.

i wanted... a cool... Instruction Manual... from people... who have been deeply involved of teh video-games industry... since... the 1980's... the 1990's.... Koji Igarashi... classic...
SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT, although I have played only some small window, is clearly ancestor to the ancient days before high-speed internet. That the Director of this game is able to command such clearly defined parameters, building an increasingly intricate reflection of... "System,"s... built into bronze clockwork gears of Victorian era European regality, would mean this current, and future, project BUILD on this historical platform.
When I received the Limited Edition game... it is wrapped... in printed... cardboard... "Curse me for a fool." The Instruction Manual remains in it's coffin, entombed for an Adventure Party to loose the prize.
I bought this game for the Instruction Manual. I have played this game on digital, and, it is pretty cool. There is always more to make, and further, "System," nuance to imagine. When I beat the game incorrectly... that was a beautiful story-surprise to discover. To beat it correctly, I would need that aforementioned, "Adventure Party."
I am grateful for the time I was able to spend playing both CURSE OF THE MOON, and, RITUAL OF THE NIGHT. It was INCREDIBLE to open a video-game Castle and find portraits of people who showed belief, early of Koji Igarashi's proposal. Though... there are, perhaps, many loved ones to place amongst these artistic vessels of note, rather than one's self, I found that to be a heart-warming lesson, for the future.
I bought the game for a cool Instruction Manual, and, when I found this encased in protective, printed cardboard, I had to leave the coveted physical idol entombed, for later days. Fun game, which I would recommend playing with a giant white-board!

What's your motivation of backing this Project back then?
I wanted a complete on cart new Igavania adventure to enjoy and keep together with my other complete on cart GBA and DS Igavania games.

I'm a backer from Japan. I backed the game hoping that I'd be able to maybe get it before the public release. Boy was I wrong!

Because it was being released on macOS. I am not being a dick, that is the reason. Hell, I don't even like Metroidvania games. Devs won't make games because not many of us buy them, of course that is because they are not making the games that we don't play so we obviously don't buy games...

I've always been a fan of Castlevia's Gothic horror roots and style from the Asian point of view. Iga took that to a new level for his work in making StoM and future titles. I wanted more of this so I backed Bloodstained. I'm not the least bit disappointed for my backing either, and wish that I was, at the time, more financially stable to have backed more than I had.
Looking forward to the additional features and perhaps even a sequel.
