So, while delving into some SotN nostalgia I came across this particular enemy, that I had long forgotten about...
and it is just what it looks like, an impaled man/woman (the woman is arguably more gruesome tho) that magically bounce around on the sticks they are impaled on, encountered in the inverted library. Since the enemies name is "Scarecrow", I think that these are supposed to be the deterrence corpses where Death takes your equipment.
And for me this was just one of these things that made SotN so great and still miles ahead of Bloodstained. It basically had every thing in the book that made a good old 90s JRPG. Zones, music & the atmosphere become increasingly mythical. Enemies become more and more weird, disturbing or outright unreal. Bosses are recycled and make a comeback as normal enemies. JRPG staple. Now I know that you couldn't possibly include an enemy like this in a 2019 game, but it was these things i actually liked about the oldschool japanese games, where especially we westerners had to double check what we are actually looking at and let out a "what the..." lol.
For me personally Bloodstained feels too comical, and flashy, too ''2019 fastfood" and I'd like to see more of this weird 90s stuff.
What are your thoughts on this ?

I had completely forgotten, about good old stuff like that. It would be dangerous to do that, in a modern game, though... People get crazy over soap bottles, now! Imagine watching an impaled human, splash around and writhing in agony!
Back then, we had real liberty of expression, jokes, irony, gore and cringe. We had the games we deserved that now, have become the games we want.

Just in case you weren't aware, the enemies in the Forbidden Library were very much a reference to The Wizard of Oz. Lions, Scarecrows, and Tin Men.
Their descriptions were pretty spot on too.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do something like that nowadays. Would not be able to see that in China but apart from that, I think it's fine. I mean, there are horror games coming out these days that do worse stuff than that in terms of gore so I don't get the point.

I agree with you in regards to RotN Kandrax. We only have Bloodstained because Konami would not make a 2D sequel to SotN. They have to have someone reading the tons of forums out there where people are still talking about SotN and how bad they wish there was a true sequel. Anyway, while you're in the inverted library, don't forget to fight the Schmoo for 45 minutes until you get the Crissaegrim

Did you know: there's a large human body that is something of a "tongue" attached to the underside of Valac. You don't often get a look at the thing, but I'd say it's plenty "wtf and disgusting" lol. To me that's scarier than most of anything I can remember from Castlevania bosses, let alone SotN itself - probably thanks in large part to the fidelity of what you can see. There are things like this in RotN which many aren't giving enough attention to for them to notice - the Ars Goetia has some pretty weird stuff in it as is and Bloodstained uses a lot of them. Gremory herself is my favorite of them I think - still no idea why she wears a donkey head on a chain through its eye sockets lol. I was just looking at pics of her and I never noticed it yells at you during this attack in CotM, ha:

Yeaaah. Bloodstained, for all the content it has, sure lacked imagination when it came to enemies.
"Here is three reskins of Demon"
"Here are five different elementals"
"Here are four reskins of the morte cannon"
"Here's four different varieties of frogs"
