Deal with demons (especially the mainstream 72 Goetia ones) and only bad things can happen to you (or anybody even remotely related). Have you ever read, in what state, famous occultists' lives were reduced to, just before they croaked? That is why everybody advices for protective measures during the ritual, concecration rites, operator's prior preparation (fasting, abstaining) and most importantly? Clarifying strictly the terms of the pact, as well as keeping the summoned spirit subdued and in a peaceful form. Even if only a fantasy game, it got that right; death and misery, ruin, damnation and scarring. I especially got sad over Zangetsu's and Gebel's fate, but Alfred was pitiful, too (poor soul didn't have a chance to correct his past mistakes and atone for them). |

Well - we don't know for sure that Gebel is dead, and I think Alfred will be around in earlier games.
I have a plot discussion and sequel/prequel probability video hitting soon. Will be a thread for that, lots of ideas on where I think they're going with things. |

About the Gebel thing? How do we not know? He crystallized right in front of our eyes. I think Zangetsu is the one who didn't actually die. His shadow can be seen coming into the frame on the bottom right right before the credits roll.

Mizu first pointed this out, though I didn't think much of it at the time - yes, Gebel crystallizes, but unlike everything else that we've seen do this, he never shatters. He stays in that pose until you leave the room, and then he's gone.
Zangetsu is known to be alive, yes. More on all this later |
