Hey guys, so a while back some ideas started to come to me for the costume DLC where including a few items here and there could cover a few more nice references/themes. I'm going to try to come up with something for all of them - my favorites in bold.
Format is as follows to match what said to be included -
Headgear x2
Back accessory
Full outfit/dress replacement
Boots
Weapon
Shard
Armored Valkyrie:
I just want/hope for something fairly close to the valkyrie characters from Valkyrie Profile. One of Miriam's current helmets is somewhat close.
gematsu.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Valkyrie-Profile-Lenneth_03-09-18.jpg
The alt helmet, instead of the more "headdress" one, could be more of a stylish but functional half-closed or closed helmet. The Dullahammer head is basically a closed helm, but far from stylish/good-looking lol. Perhaps something like this:
images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61fH2F5c0jL._SY679_.jpg
Weapon: Typical valkyrie weapons are swords, spears and bows. Since it's unlikely that other outfits will use spears, perhaps that's a good way to go here and could separate her from too obvious of a VP shoutout (and the bow could be her back accessory, or wings). I prefer swords in these games myself, though. Maybe even a halberd? Is Armored Valkyrie Miriam actually Valkyrie Profile 3: Hrist?
For the shard, this just came to me but it's easy and needed - a directional ice shard, which the game currently doesn't have, to deal damage with a chance to freeze at a set distance (not full screen). It could also instead crystallize them rather than freeze, which would complete the VP reference.
Fully Corrupted:
I'm not a fan of "corrupt" Miriam myself, but I think this should be as much or more about her skin and expression changing than per se the outfit - somewhat of an antithesis to Pure Miriam. Demonic touches to the design, and more "skin", but the skin is mostly like Gebel's.
Helmet/alt helmet could be *actual* horns rather than the Aries piece, or wild/unkempt hair.
Back accessory: a scarf that pulses red/black like the Twilight Cloak.
Weapon: the anti-Valkyrie Sword. If DLC outfit weapons get unique properties/abilities, I think mastering/fully upgrading all shards should do something with this one like how the Pure version unlocks a new technique after those are mastered. If you've rank/grade 9'd everything in the game, it probably doesn't matter what else you get haha.
Shard: I think something high risk/high reward would make sense. It depends on how gameplay-heavy these things can be, but if we can go farther with it, something that increases magic damage at the cost of defense - perhaps even to DEF 0/HP 1. Failing that, perhaps Gebel's "Summon Darkness" (his standard attack) in CotM.
Demon:
Demon kind of overlaps to me with the above - but for something a bit more unique to Bloodstained, I think a Vepar cosplay for this would be cool. Otherwise, for something CV, maybe a callback to the SotN demon familiar would be neat. That would give her the wings, a new spear, a tail, etc. Added bonus, when she sees a switch, she says "Hmmm....a switch! Let's press it and seeeeee"
Succubus:
Oh hey more demons. lol, I think the direction for this one is obvious - there are several Castlevania succubus designs to pull from. As long as it's different enough from Lili, I think it will be very popular.
Shard: Soma could do the succubus grab/kiss thing, so why not Miriam?
Vampire:
Well, besides obviously being callbacks to Alucard and OD, I think this could be an opportunity to work the iconic Hellfire teleport/fireballs into the game. The Bandit Blade already has the Alucard Sword's special attack, so I wonder if giving that to another vampire weapon would be going too far?
Nun/Exorcist:
Well, as you all may know, I'm always looking for more characters like this. I kind of think of exorcists as clerics or the Belnades characters. This is one of very few opportunities in the outfit DLC to work in a mace or flail. I think "battle nun" as the general outfit idea is clear - a habit, crosses, etc. The headpiece itself having a long/flowing design could perhaps negate the back accessory slot, which I can't right off think of anything for anyways.
Shard: ...would it make any sense for a nun/exorcist to have a shard? Hm, maybe a weapon tech or something else instead. The first attack that comes to mind that's missing in Bloodstained though is holy water (and of course the holy/hydro storm).
Maid:
Ah, maid - perfect spot to call upon Persephone references. There's a lot of possibilities here.
Since there's already a maid head piece, we could add some variety with perhaps a larger bonnet and bows/flowers.
Weapon - a broom, but what weapon type? Perhaps even the duster from that cute whiteboard drawing Kojima-san did? lol
Shard: vacuum of course.
Angel:
It's Just Roberto. LOL BAMBOOZLED
Galaxy/Stars:
I think going with the astronomy angle would be good here, as that ties in with alchemy to some degree. I'm not sure how the team would model that, aside from using something similar to OD's cape.
Lunar:
I'm not sure about this one either. I think a Gremory theme would make the most sense, but something "the moon" otherwise is a bit too abstract for me to form ideas on. Gremory cosplay sounds cool though...
Japanese one-piece swimsuit:
well uh yeah...
Pool noodles? uhh OH better underwater movement? That could be useful lol
Bunny & Cat
This seems to be a two-for-one thing? Huh, well...
I would like a way to be friends with the cats and bunnies in the game. Let's go with that.
3D wireframe:
No idea. This is pretty hard to conceptualize weapon/shard for, too.
Magical girl:
I keep thinking of Sailor Moon vs how this game uses the moon lol. "In the name of the true moon, not the false, demon one, I will punish you!"
The look for this one could be between the above, Madoka Magica, more or less sailor depending on what they want to do with it I guess.
Weapon: Probably a wand, staff or scepter? Or, hey, some Madoka characters had guns. Not many others in these listings use firearms.
Kimono/Geisha:
This is straightforward enough. Perhaps an opportunity for a tanto (a dagger, but designed like a small katana). Could be some nice makeup on her with this one. Instrument back-accessory.
Modern casual clothes:
I think most of us were thinking jeans/t-shirt with this, but one of the things I was thinking this could have to cover something else we didn't think of to add to the poll - an electric guitar back accessory to make it a Tamako cosplay. This would be totally rad - even better if she could borrow that enemy's animation and play the guitar herself as a replaced "up" pose.
Elemental packs:
Hm...I don't know about this one. I can't think of anything meaningful that could also be portrayed by just changing Miriam's default colors or giving her an elemental aura or just a new scarf.
Samurai:
Ah, but what manner of samurai? How do we make the sword meaningful and different here? Is it mostly "Miriam as Zangetsu", an armored samurai or something of the Zatoichi iaijutsu variety? I think the latter would be some of the best katana/samurai variety - blindfolded Miriam (which could also appease 2B cosplay guys) with a stick katana (shirasaya) in kimono/hakama, especially if geisha style doesn't make it.
Back: big sake jug of course, I guess lol.
Shard: Can make your backdash something more like Zangetsu's teleport.
Ninja:
Miriam, kunoichi. Sounds good! I think that a kunai dagger would make sense or maybe get more creative with a kusarigama having a whip moveset? It's almost like a...ninja Vampire Killer.
Shard: Smoke bombs (instant escapes that do mild damage), a "back attack" damage bonus shard...or a crazier teleport/fast movement attack where Miriam zips across the screen at various angles doing damage a la Strider Hiryu's Ragnarok, Spider-Man's Maximum Spider, an Assassin critical hit in older Fire Emblem games, etc etc.
And I have no idea how it would be possible, but one of my favorite ninja things is the izuna drop (air spinning piledriver).
Mage:
Hm...a Charlotte style outfit would be great. Otherwise, I suppose we're looking at robes and more standard D&D or Final Fantasy mage ideas. A bigger, more pointy wizard hat could be good, and a large cloak. I think it would be best if this were available in multiple colors. Alt headgear could be hood vs hat.
Princess:
The "coronation gown" is in the game, but doesn't show. We could capture the Disney Princess market here some, I think? Haha, or just a Peach-looking princess too. Weapon could be a less-bloody parasol.
Chef:
Heh, Chef Miriam with a giant wooden spoon (overhead swing weapon?). Oh, or maybe the big spoon is her back accessory and her weapon is a frying pan. lol and it would need a satisfying CLANG when smacking demons with it.
Shard: Something related to food, obviously. What if it could let you cook anywhere?
Cute Beast Beret set:
Heh, big cute animal suit I think.
Shard: nap. Miriam curls up and takes a nap.
Cowgirl:
Ahh, here's our other chance for gun weapons. I really want a revolver in this game, a cowboy gun. Cowgirl looks can vary widely, from a more flowing saloon dress to cut-off jean shorts, but as long as I get that gun I'd be happy with it. Also, another idea I had from before, this could be combined into a Valefar/gambler aesthetic. Not much goes better with cowboys than poker.
Shard: Rebound shot, a directional shard that allows you to aim your actual main gun weapon, and increasing rank allows the bullet to bounce and travel longer (uses both MP and ammo). Another idea for the weapon/shard is a charged shot (holding the button down), which I'm surprised isn't already in the game. That could also be something for magical girl.
Paladin:
Plate armor here, and probably the two-handed sword candidate set. Shield as the back accessory (the design of which could be reminiscent of one of the popular Dark Souls shields we wear on our backs).
Shard: Maybe or maybe not a shard like the exorcist, but - Grand Cross! Haha, or calling down some pillars of light in a row.
White Mage:
I love the white mage aesthetic in Final Fantasy. I think a hammer would be nice for the weapon.
Shard: I think something that simultaneously heals you and does damage to the enemy would make sense. A lot of my ideas here would overlap with the nun/exorcist ones, but I do think of Yoko's standard attack in Dawn of Sorrow as doing this.
Archer:
Well, this would be awkward, seeing as a bow isn't a weapon category - but True Arrow is certainly a popular attack. Long cuffed boots and greens/browns come to mind, like the elf in Dragon's Crown. This actually might be a good opportunity complete the elf cosplay itself to match the ears.
Shard: Firing an arrow more traditionally could be a conjure shard, kind of like SotN's Magic Missile item. Maybe it pierces and does multiple hits, explodes, or has a sweet spot for precision damage like Jonathan's dart?
Pirate:
It'd be neat if the shard interacted with chests somehow. Other than that - eye patch, shoulder bird, cutlass, hook hand, haha who knows.
Dark Knight:
More or less the opposite to the Paladin, and instead of sword + shield design, a big axe.
Shard: I'm thinking something like a black hole/gravity well that sucks in and damages enemies.
Steampunk:
Another opportunity to mix in the gambler/Valefar look. Steampunk stuff has a well known aesthetic.
Shard: Drop some big ol' gears on them.
Japanese school outfit:
Could potentially have overlap with magical girl, depending, but otherwise...hm...mallet space? Hm...a purse or stuffed animal weapon? Books? Tsundere quotes?
Sci-fi/futuristic:
Angel is already going to make this a robot pilot suit so I'm not going to bother ;p hahaha
But no really uhh, I guess I'm fine with that anyway. Plug suit Miriam I suppose. Or it could even be her looking like a robot herself, I think? oh dear
Prehistoric cave woman:
Well, this is unexpected. I think we can at least expect a big club and animal skins/not much as clothes. Uh...hm, maybe a big Monster Hunter (or CV) bone-in piece of meat as her back accessory. Oh man, I suddenly like this idea now.
Phew, I think that about does it! This took like a couple hours.

Headgear x2
Back accessory
Full outfit/dress replacement
Boots
