So what would the max damage (i.e. highest number in a single blow) setup look like ? I suppose that summon hellhound is the heaviest hitter out there, so here is what I came up with:
Level: 99 (doh..)
All food eaten
All O.D. books (I guess only the int one would matter tho)
Red Shard: Summon Hellhound 9/9 Blue Shard: Sacred Shade 9/9 Yellow Shard: Augment INT 9/9 Familiar: Book buffs str only so I took Buer for flavor since it attacks with fire as well Passive Shards: All Yellows (Maxed) Weapon: Gambanteinn (only weapon that serves as a stat stick) Head: Ancient Tiara (technically Diabolists Cap offers 1 int more but it just looks bad) Body: Scarlet Dress Accessory 1: Skull Necklace Accessory 2: Flame Ring Back: Over the Rainbow Self-explanatory playstyle, buff up with Sacred Shade and hammer away at hounds, of course if you want this to be sustainable you need specific eyewear
Damage on a Morte is 3884 or a 5826 crit.
I‘d really love if there was more gear in the game that interacted with magic types or some true „caster weapons“...

oh wow i honestly don't think it can go higher than that but its actually posible to reduce the enemies def stat with a bullet and it does make a difference. of course a morte would die instantly from any bullet and i believe mortes have 1 defence point so it would be pointless to try.
i just don't like the fact that fire element is the dominant elemental option of the game. several enemies are weak to fire and the player gets multiple options for that (fire cannon, Riga Storaema, Riga Dohin, Fire breath, hellhound, Buer's fire ability) and im sure im missing one here.
i remember hitting a 5100 crit with max str + dantalion's buff + the most powerful crit ring + red remembrance at 1% HP all this with Eternal blue. it was against a sabnock. need to try on a morte.

Completely forgot about Red Remembrance lol. Just tested it again with it in yellow slot instead of Augment INT (+passive RR) at 1 HP.
Damage on Morte 6229 and 9343 crit. thanks for reminding me

Damage on Morte 6229 and 9343 crit. thanks for reminding me ooh thats almost 9999 damage. i guess the only way to be able to deal that much damage its by super poisoning valefar with 100k+ cash on you. also, have you tried bullet coin or the heavy axe from the axe knights in the glacial tomb? pretty sure those are heavy hitters.

This is the highest I managed to get. Utilizing red remembrance and technique/element multipliers. Hellhound can't surpass it since the highest INT possible is 409 and that can only reach 11,229 damage. Unless they remove the level cap, this is the highest damage possible.

I completely forgot about my super-poison glitch! It deals 74,999 damage (or 75% of Valefar's max hp, 99,999) per tick, which I think is the undisputed highest damage number you can get in the game. From the sounds of it, the glitch's damage is that high cause of Valefor's high HP with lots of gold. 10k HP is the highest HP normally.

Noticed something odd with damage, seems like normal swing damage caps out at 999 damage non-crit on the ''smaller'' enemies, whereas it can go over 1k on larger ones. Guns and spells are not affected by this.
