I'm one of the Kickstarter backers for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. I've backed more than 80 campaigns on Kickstarter and this is one of the worst. Nevermind that the campaign is delayed for more than 2 years. That's normal for Kickstarter. The thing that pisses me off is the inflexibility and the unresponsiveness of the campaign creator.
I am a backer of the digital tier reward. The creator sent out the survey to select the game platform few years ago. I selected the Steam option cause I owned a iMac. Halfway through the development, they announced that Mac OS support for the game was removed. I didn't realise it until they locked the platform change option. (My bad for not following the game development over the past 4 years)
I tried posting on Kickstarter to ask if I can change my digital download reward from Steam to Nintendo Switch. No reply. I've emailed Fangamers and they asked me to go to the discord channel or forum. I tried posting on the discord channel and I think my comment was deleted. (I'm not used to using Discord. Can't seems to find the comment that I posted.). Tried posting on the Forum and no response.
Fine. So I emailed Fangamers again and they say there is nothing they can do about it. SERIOUSLY? So now I'm stuck with a Steam code for the game without a PC to play the game.
Sick and tired of this. Totally unprofessional and irresponsible campaign creator. 4 years ago, I pledge my money to the game because I was a Castlevania when I was young. No questions asked. Now all I asked is to change my Steam download code to Nintendo Switch download code. Just a simple change. But no. Utterly disappointed. I'm not going to back any future campaign by Koji Igarashi. You may be a good game producer but you are a lousy kickstarter campaign creator. And I'm not getting any games from 505 Games and Fangamer. Horrible experience.

So your inattention to the campaign, which is your own fault, is the basis for your complaint... and then blaming Iga despite the decision to not honour your request would be outside of his control anyway, wow that's some sound logic you got there.
But yes feel free to express those feels.

(My bad for not following the game development over the past 4 years)you burned yourself with this one. there is nothing to discuss here. it was your fault. you backed a project and didn't even bother about it for 4 years? there were multiple announcements through many different platforms, not just kickstarter. development has over 90 updates and you missed all of it? i find it hard to believe someone who has backed over 80 projects ignores a project this much. forgive 505 Games customer service for not being able to help you now.

I hear the game runs on linux just fine...
The way I see it you have two options:
1. The easy option: Sell your steam code to a friend or colleague. YOU WILL STILL GET YOUR BACKER REWARDS ON ANY PLATFORMS BY ENTERING YOUR BACKER ID WHEN YOU START A NEW GAME.
2. The less easy option: This game is not very hardware intensive, you could run it in a virtual machine with windows installed.

It should work with your Mac because it works with Linux. It's just not officially supported. So your neglect to follow the campaign and change your platform may work out better for you. Let us know when you get it up and running so we know you're taken care of.

I don't think it will be a problem - all they can do with it is use your backer ID in-game, or possibly claim to be you in contact with Fangamer, but their email/other info wouldn't match yours so that probably wouldn't get them far.

Let us know when you get it up and running so we know you're taken care of. That's not necessarily true (we've had best luck getting Wine to support Bloodstained using some tools which aren't, I think, available for MacOS - or at least, I believe the situation with Vulkan support is a bit different for that system). In any case, he's allowed to be annoyed about people dropping Kickstarter pledges.

Yeah, but I realized too late. I hope it is indeed useless, I'm embarrassed I was so careless but I'd grown impatient of waiting for my game.

aoanla of course he's allowed to be annoyed. I hope I didn't come off as saying he isn't. I haven't heard a confirmed case for Bloodstained running on a Mac yet, so I want to hear back when it does. I know little about Linux and Mac with Steam.

Just gonna say you must’ve not backed many projects on KS if you think this is the worst KS campaign ever. Bloodstained’s crowdfund was far from perfect but, by God, its also far far FAR from being the worst either.
Hell, it’s not even the worst videogame Kickstarter that’s launching this year, let alone the worst of all time! And trust me when I say this because as a backer of Mighty No 9 and Shenmue 3 I think I know what I’m talking about.
Look, I’m sorry you went through this but it’s not nearly as bad as you make it out. Especially when it’s also on you for backing something and not following the project for 4 freaking years. This wasn’t an Amazon preorder. You should’ve paid a little attention at least.
PS: even if I agreed this was a horrible campaign I would never agree that the final product wasn’t a good one. Bumps and all this was after all a crowdfunding success with a videogame I ended up loving, sinking 45 hours into it (with more content to come), and Platinum’d it.

Not defending Bloodstained but you need to look at MN9 and Shenmue 3 to know what worst kickstarter campaign is like.

I almost never remember to check my email.
I am terrible about checking all the Discord groups I'm in.
My presence on other forms of social media is a ghost.
I still managed to keep up to date on the project.
Blame yourself.

Like a Prom fan on Anime night...
I wasn't the most timely with responses, but I still believed that it was on me and not them, if i didn't check my email. no amount of notification would fix that.
