You know the lamp things scattered around the map, you break them and they give you a shard or new ability. The last three or four I've broken have all given me a silver knight shard. I don't know if this is a bug, or not. I'm past the bad ending and have reloaded a save. Just doesn't feel right when I keep getting silver knight shards over and over from things in hard to reach places.

It's not a bug; every other familiar shard needs to come from defeated creatures, which can then be farmed if you want multiple shards. The Silver Knight has no associated creature and cannot be traditionally farmed, so if you want to improve him by gaining multiple shards, you need to track down the green lamps.

I'm quite certain at least one lamp was yellow. I was expecting to get a new ability from it.

That's intentional. You can't get Silver Knight shards anywhere else.

One silver shard is an ability for underwater exploration, so that you don't need aqua stream.
