Nope, you're not alone.
Unless your conjure shard can destroy your enemies by wiping a good part of the screen or has auto aiming (and not too much obstacles on the way), you need to be on the same X or Y axis to hurt them.
Aiming precisely with directional shards is far more efficient.

I use Welcome Company for my conjure, or Blood-Steal. The former's great for areas with smaller weaker enemies, or just adding damage against any enemy while attacking... it may be a bit too OP though, I've seen players asking for it to be nerfed.

Welcome Company is great. Protects you from this game's Medusa Heads and deals constant damage to enemies you're next to which is ideal since you're going to be fighting stuff up close anyways.

Where in hell is Alfred's Flame shield though? Stone Shield in Portrait of ruins outright kills big Medusa for me.

Nope. With the exception of Blood Steal, Welcome Company etc. The directive feel way more interesting, accurate, and assuming you are powering them up properly, damaging than the conjure shards sadly. Poor red shards _shard

For the most part I stick with Welcome Company but sometimes I like to use a fun one like the Dragon Summon or Hellhound Summon. Otherwise Piling on damage with Welcome Company and the Werewolf Jojo Stand is so strong XD
