Through the course of the Kickstarter campaign, IGA and the staff talked little about the game's battle/magic system. Considering all the interviews and info so far, this is what we got:
1) Miriam can create equipment with materials and magi-crystals. (The magi-crystal usage to create equipment appears to have been abandoned, when IGA said that crystals will be Miriam's main source of power.)
2) Magi-crystals will be a variation of the Soul series. Each demon has a Magi-crystal used to summon it. Sometimes when the player kills an enemy, it can drop it's magi-crystal. Then the player will take the magi-crystal to someone and apply alchemy magic to it. The crystal will mature and THEN the player can equip it and use that demon's powers.
3) IGA said, through, that this idea can be dropped. The staff's discussions has leaned him to think that, get a power that you can't use right away can be frustrating.
4) There was a talk about magi-crystals capable of leveling.
5) IGA also said that the staff wants to implement some kind of parameter's modifications. The player could use a special equipment, option or magic that could alter drastically Miriam's stats in some way.
Considering all that, i was thinking how the gameplay/controls and system could work, and i want to share my idea with all of you:
The Controls
I'm using a XBOX 360 controller as a base, since it works on PC
D-PAD and LEFT analog stick: move Miriam around.
RIGHT analog stick: nothing.
BACK: Show map (pause).
START: Main menu (pause).
X: Right Weapon
X: Right Offense Magi-Crystal.
Y: Left Weapon.
Y: Left Offense Magi-Crystal.
A: Jump.
B: Special Weapon Attack.
B: Enchant Magi-Crystal.
LB: backdash
RB: Shield.
RB: Evoker Magi-Crystal.
LT: change equip set.
RT: change Magi-Crystal set.
The System
Miriam can equip one weapon on each hand (X and Y buttons) and a shield (RB button). By pressing B, Miriam can use a Special Weapon Attack (consumes MP), depending on the weapons equipped on X and Y.
Equipment can have two Sets (A and B) that can be changed real-time by pressing LT. Magi-Crystal set can be changed real-time (A and B) by pressing RT.
The Magi-Crystal System
The game could have 4 types of Crystals:
Offense Crystal: These can be equipped at X and Y, same or different (consumes MP). These crystals are magical attacks of all sorts. These could be 40% of the Magi-Crystals in-game.
Evoker Crystal: This crystal can be equipped at RB. It can be activated and deactivated, depending on the crystal. These crystals are familiars, barriers and magical summons, wings to fly and such. (consumes MP continuously). These could be 25% of the Magi-Crystals in-game.
Enchant Crystal: This crystal can be equipped at A. When activated, Miram's stats are drastically changed, depending on the Enchant Crystal equipped (some stats increase, others decrease, her gameplay can change in some ways and such) (Consumes MP when activated, but don't consume continuously). These could be 30% of the Magi-Crystals in-game.
Skill Crystal: This crystal isn't equipped. It's like SOTN/HoD/OoE relics or Soul Series Ability Souls. Skill Crystals give special abilities, like Double Jump, High Jump, Open certain doors, low dash and such. These could be 5% of the Magi-Crystals in-game.
Using Crystals
As IGA said on a interview, each enemy can drop materials to forge weapons and equipment and they can also drop Magi-crystals. When a player gets a Magi-Crystal, it can be used right away but the Magi-Crystal can be leveled up using Crystal Shards that are dropped by breaking things at the scenario (like Hearts in Castlevania games). When the player has enough Crystal Shards, the player can return to the Alchemist's store (Johannes?) and use those Crystal Shards to level a Magi-Crystal. Most Magi-Crystals can be leveled up at varying degrees.
Crystals can only be obtained by monsters. In order to create some "Relic" idea (putting the Double Jump Magi-Crystal in a place, rather than in a Boss, for instance) some rooms could be old Alchemist's Labs that was sucked up when the Castle came. Those rooms could have unique, one-time experiment demon that, when killed, would give Skill Crystals. They could also be obtained on some bosses, or something.
Well, that was a huge brainstorm of mine. Wanna know your ideas and opinions!
