Four more games in this "first" collection, huh? I'd love Bloodlines, Dracula X SNES, and Simon's Quest. (Of those, Dracula X SNES is a controversial choice, but it's one of the games I always come back to.) Simon's Quest, love it or hate it, is too important not to include, and I personally find it eerily captivating. And Bloodlines is just too much in demand (and too interesting) to be ignored. Put Rondo, if applicable, and you have pretty much a perfect 1st collection for me...(Though, to be honest, Castlevania 1 isn't really a game I love like the others.) The question is, what counts as "the origins"--as Konami puts it. Isn't Rondo sort of a transition title? (And I'm assuming there isn't some embargo from Rondo and SotN being released again...) Collection 1, therefore can choose from Castlevania x68000 (Sharp Computer or PS1), The Adventure (GB), and maybe The Adventure Rebirth. I really never loved x68000, despite a few of the interesting wrinkles it had. For all its faults, The Adventure (GB) is charming and challenging if you take the time to play at its pace. The Adventure Rebirth is solid and there's the issue of having it available for wider posterity, but couldn't it be in its own "Rebirth" collection? As much as I enjoyed Rebirth, I felt like it changed too many things to be a legitimate substitute for The Adventure, and it was more of an homage to "the origins" rather than being an origins title in and of itself. So, I'm conflicted. ...I didn't consider it, but Vampire Killer MSX might still be in the mix...though I'm not too excited about that... But with Collection 2...like I said, is Rondo part of the first collection, and also, are it and SotN on the table at all? Collection 2 could have any of the GBA and DS games, and also, theoretically SotN and Rondo. My first instinct is to move Rondo to the first set as the eighth title. But if it's considered the transition to SotN, as it was under the Dracula X sub-series, then I'm going with Rondo, SotN, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, Order of Ecclesia, Portrait of Ruin, Circle of the Moon, and Harmony of Dissonance. Wow. Great second collection. If Rondo does get the boot to Collection 2, as a big Classicvania fan, I think I'd want The Adventure (GB) as the eighth title on Collection 1.
Then again...maybe some 3D titles will make it somehow?
...But do you think this Summer 2019 release is in response to Bloodstained?

Arcade Castlevania, and the new mobile being ported? Lol
I expect little from Konami. If people are getting hyped over re-releases, I wonder how much hype there would be if Konami put effort in making a 2D continuation of their IP instead. On consoles and computers, not mobile.

You know, it just hit me, do Simon's Quest and Vampire Killer MSX get put in a collection with the IGAvanias? Or is Belmont's Revenge a sign they both will be left out altogether? Arcade Castlevania, and the new mobile being ported? Lol I expect little from Konami. If people are getting hyped over re-releases, I wonder how much hype there would be if Konami put effort in making a 2D continuation of their IP instead. On consoles and computers, not mobile. The "leaked" rumor from E3 2018 was that a new Castlevania was in the works alongside a collection, so it could still happen.

The Castlevania game that I would most deeply want them to bring to this collection is Castlevania The Arcade a light gun arcade cabinet released almost exclusively in Japan in 2009, I'd buy a VR headset and motion remotes if they ported this game for the PS4. RichterBI don't really think it's in response too, but it's definitely not a coincidence... To be honest it's great for both Konami and Artplay really, more people will buy both titles releasing so soon together, but I don't feel like Konami is "competing" with Bloodstained or anything, they've just been waiting for the best time to release these old Castlevania games and they've been building up to this point (and I hope more) for a couple years now, Requiem last fall, 3 seasons of Castlevania anime, Simon and Richter for Smash. the new mobile Castlevania game, bringing Harmony of Despair out of retirement... Konami just might be setting up to do a whole new real game soon.

If you read between the lines of that blurb about the collection on the Konami site, it does imply that the other 4 games are part of this same "origins" collection, and that the second collection will be Vanias from another era. So, will it be Metroidvanias, or 3D-vanias?

RichterB I see your logic with not including Rondo here since it's sort of a "transition" title sure, but if it does have SNES X and not that, then that's a bit odd and inconsistent. I think it'll make it, rounding out a clear "classicvania" set. Pasting what I typed up earlier elsewhere here: Congrats to them if they've pushed through this apparent problem: www.resetera.com/threads/rumor-reason-why-contra-nes-and-the-genesis-konami-titles-were-never-re-issued.35489/?fbclid=IwAR0g6CjEBboI8llsns6uetXe0qseMm3iPPy9rsZ4yZEsjR-cE1f-oW3pQMElol. So assuming they even can re-release Bloodlines and ReBirth now (hopefully, since Contra 1 is in that series' set), those 100% need to be in one of these collections for preservation's sake because there currently is no feasible way to purchase/play them. ReBirth may however be too "new" for an "early origins" collection though, so the last four could be Bloodlines, X68000 (Chronicles), CV2 and Rondo. Simon's Quest could very well belong as an 8-bit throw-in as a proto-Metroidvania in that genre's bundle, and in that case we could see something a little more surprising here like OG Adventure or SNES X. I don't expect them to do anything with Vampire Killer or Legends. I don't think that Rondo is precluded at all with this, they seem to be making broad multiplatform strokes here and multiple greatest hits releases, and it'd be a smart move for all the folks still not satisfied Requiem was a PS4-only game. So as for the other collections, maybe - 3D vania Iga/Metroidvania Final set (for things that don't make it in the other collections, likely being Chronicles, ReBirth, DXC, Judgment) After the classics, I could see them split up into 4-game sets. 3D would be of course be the 64 and PS2 games, and a LoS collection already exists so using those is unnecessary. Igavania could be split into two sets of PS1 + GBA, and then the DS games + HoD, again being 4. Lastly, that leaves ~4 odds and ends to pull together for one last set (remakes and Judgment). So in all, Konami would put out five 19.99 collections to nab a cool $100. Bundle them all once they're done physically later for $80 with a collector's edition to get that customer's money again with the same titles. Brilliant!

Bundle them all once they're done physically later for $80 with a collector's edition to get that customer's money again with the same titles. Brilliant! I honestly don't know what to expect anymore. I assume we won't be getting more than two collections total over time. You think they'd go to the trouble to do them all? I mean, the N64 ones have got to be a stretch, much as I am a fan of them. The original Contra in the Contra Collection is likely not the NES version, unfortunately. They're showing the title screen of the arcade version. I'm actually getting a bad feeling in that regard about what you said about Konami's clerical error. I also read that if you look at the game releases on the Castlevania/Contra list, they are in chronological order in terms of release dates. That likely means that Castlevania x68000, Rondo of Blood, Bloodlines, and either Dracula X SNES or more likely, The Adventure Rebirth are the last ones in the set. If Bloodlines is off the table...and that would be a disaster...then Dracula X and Adventure Rebirth would both make it.
When I consider what old-school "Classicvania" games I will always want to return to, it's Castlevania III, Dracula X SNES, Super Castlevania IV, Bloodlines, Belmont's Revenge, The Adventure (GB), and maybe Rondo of Blood. Personally, those first four are must-haves in a collection for me. So, if I can get Dracula X SNES and Bloodlines out of this, it'll be good enough. Bloodlines is the linchpin, though, because I haven't gotten to play it nearly as much as I'd like due to its lack of availability.
EDIT: I still hear some commentators out there thinking that SotN will be in this collection...But if there's going to be more than one collection, I'm just not sure that makes sense.
EDIT 2: I don't know what they're going to do with Contra. If we go by the release-date theory, they've already ruled out Operation C (which is a darn good Contra entry). Contra Force is still very much on the table, despite being an outlier. Hard Corps is a no-brainer and a must-have, but again, it depends on the Genesis situation. Contra 4 and Rebirth are good candidates, but there will be some who want Shattered Soldier and Neo represented. Contra 4's dual-screen setup makes it difficult to have, I'd think. My ideal list, which is already basically impossible, would probably be Contra NES, Super C, Operation C, Contra III, Hard Corps, Contra 4, Contra Rebirth, and Neo Contra. ...Shattered Soldier was all right, but I think I had more fun with Neo Contra. Contra Rebirth had a big problem, though, in that it changed the continues system away from high-score rewards, IIRC.

You're right, there's probably not chance of an actual Castle May Cry shared world. But but I think it could suggest that both shows could could be running in tandem, and that Castlevania may, therefore, continue beyond a third season.

Castlevania 1-3 is more likely though.

You can still play HoD, servers still run for ps3 and xbox 360 ( I think it's playable on 1 as well). Servers aren't "busy", but you can still find players on there on any given day.

GBA + NDS titles in one PC bundle? That would be awesome. Edit: I can use a pen if needed, or mouse for some parts, or they could just patch so we do not need to. Not that hard.. That's what I was thinking. You know, it'd be interesting if Konami released this at the same time as Bloodstained to ride the momentum and make some money from the hype being generated.

ovenkitty Then we have a problem. I do not have those consoles Would be nice for PC. That sucks... however, there was a fellow working on a Unity port of the game. It was playable, and had servers available. His youtube channel is gone now for some reason, but it probably still exists somewhere on the interwebs. Also, it's on PS Now. I tried it on my crappy laptop and it ran fairly decently. You can get a free 7 day trial and try it out!

Hoping this collection and any subsequent ones will get some kind of a physical release down the line, be it a Japan release or via Limited Run Games, etc.
Having said that I would want the next four games to be any of the following: Bloodlines, Rebirth, Lament of Innocence, Chronicles (PS1), or Dracula X or Vampire's Kiss for the Euro crowd.

hyugakojiro The best way to get a limited physical release is to buy the digital version and show that there are fans that want it. I may get it at full price depending on which games are included, the quality of the ports, the final asking price, and my current gaming backlog.
Also has there ever been a time when Konami released something as digital only and later on released it on hard copy?
For most games I tend to wait until they go on sale (usually $20 for full price games) unless it's something I really want to pay full price for to show support to the developers, Bloodstained and more recently Sekiro are a good example.
I'd rather save my top dollar to buy or help fund the next Bloodstained than spend it on a digital only collections such as these.
I don't think Konami actually cares about it's fans (or its employees for that matter) so for me to shell out top dollar on any of their projects it has to be something I'm really enthusiastic about.
If they're not offering me something I can enthusiastically get behind then I'm not likely to pay full price.
But everyone has their own way of doing things so to each their own. It's your money, you get to decide how to spend it. Nothing wrong with that.

It's been quite a while since the last time I played Bloodlines (and a long time since I still had a Genesis)... so that'll be the only reason I'd buy this collection, assuming it has Bloodlines.
I'd love to play CV3 again too, but I've already got it on three different systems.
