This is crossposted from Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/Bloodstained/comments/aqlpjd/bloodstained_shadow_of_the_demon_lord/
Be forewarned, this is high nerdery of the Tabletop RPG kind. You've been warned.
Soooo, I know some folks on here are already doing a D&D thang with Castlevania-esque play.
Now, my main game is a gem from Robert Schwalb, one of the devs for D&D 5e, called Shadow of the Demon Lord. Schwalb's goal in designing this game was to make something he could run five beers in, and that's what it is. It's also absolutely brutal.
So, why does this game call out to me for Bloodstained on the tabletop? It has mechanics that the setting of Bloodstained already mention, namely Corruption.
In Curse of the Moon, we see Zangetsu becoming corrupted to the point of becoming a demon himself. We also know the 'Crystal Curse' slowly corrupts Shardbinders. While Corruption is of a different 'flavor' in the vanilla Shadow of the Demon Lord (the taint of one's soul that drags a person to Hell), this could easily be retooled to have other deleterious effects as a trade-off for bonuses (new abilities, etc.).
The other selling point is damage is actually linked to the character's abilities more than the weapon used. A whip is crappy unless it's in the hands of a seasoned fighter who can use it to negate armor's defense bonus and gain stupid amounts of bonus damage that make the initial damage die trivial.
This should give me something to do while I wait for Bloodstained to come out. Heck, I have nearly every SotDL book to convert this, so why not?

I apologize if my response is inappropriate, but the thread title looks like what may be a winning candidate for the official name of Bloodstained 2

Actually, if I was to toss my hat in the ring *for realsies*, I'd go with Vesper of Sorrow.

Agreed. However, as I thought about it I realized that If I'm going to base the game on it, I'll need a lot of conjecture or to wait... or to do a CotM hack until it comes out proper.
We'll see?

As a sort of update to this, it appears Rob's coming out with a massive new book for this game entitled 'Occult Philosophy' that will greatly expand the game in early fall. Perfect timing, as we'll have a clearer look at the lore after all of us have decimated the game and will be busily conjecturing at the loose threads.
Are there many tabletop players here who would like to see a document for this? It will be no frills as my time is eaten up by a number of pursuits.
