UBIK UNO: The Bezeless Smartphone at Unbeatable Price

To anyone who was still considering this, you might want to reconsider... It was apparently announced back on the 6th that Ubik was going to drop the retail price of the phone from $349 to $298 FOLLOWING THE KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN. Considering that the reward tiers, including the early bird tiers were all based on the $349 retail price and that this effectively makes the higher tiers (except the two phone tier) pointless.

Keep in mind this was never announced to the KS backers or put up on the campaign page. This was independently found by one of the other KS users and was confirmed in the comments section by the KS campaign creator.

Notice that they claimed they would address this ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE not on the KS page, and as of yet no such announcement has been made, and this took place almost 4 days ago...


During the exchange the creator tried to claim that because backers were getting free accessories that included a free bumper case that that constituted $40 that this is what accounted for the difference in prices. Except that the "free cases" were being offer since the beginning of the campaign to those backers who shared the project on social media. To me this constitutes a pretty blatant bait-and-switch, which for a company that is trying to build a reputation of "not being like the big cell phone companies" is looking to be more and more like them and maybe even worse.

Also, since shortly after those exchanges took place the creator has been basically silent other than to respond once to performance questions by simply stating that they were going to announce benchmarking data on Tuesday (08/11/2015)...

I have my doubts that this will happen as they've been promising "benchmark test results" for some time.

I've already had the chance to move down in the tiers twice already due to backers jumping ship and the funding looks to have stalled pretty badly.



I'm going to stick around till very near the end to see if this ever gets addressed, but if it doesn't I'll back out.
